Hit & miss with what I saw with the guys that I know that were passed over. -
Promotion boards don't see SURFs. They see something called a DQHB which is populated from AFPROMS. You have to ask the professional at your local MPF promotions section to see a copy of it.

These are not mutually exclusive. I like to bag on the AF as much as the next guy, but you can strike a balance. It just takes a halfway decent boss (I know, hard to come by these days), some long hours & prioritizing of your time, and yes, some luck and timing.

I suspended service with Verizon during my last deployment. Called a week before I left, told them the date I wanted it suspended, and then told them the day I wanted it reactivated (I gave them a date a few days prior to my return) and it worked with no problems.

They can easily add an identifier to the existing PME blocks to indicate if an advanced degree was awarded via the means you described. The difference is that people were SENT to those programs. That's a huge difference.

This. Seriously. Not just sport-bitching. Along with masking, make it so that the only way people can get a Masters is by getting SENT to get one. Our current leaders have to absolutely bury this requirement and make it difficult to get back up and running if people are going to take it seriously. Masking alone, while a good sign in the short term, does nothing a couple of years down the line. Here's hoping the CSAF's vector says something along the lines of "If you are below the rank of Major, I need you to focus on your primary job." That would be the proof in the pudding.

Don't forget the fact that the type of CC described above gets an instructor/evaluator folder going on himself, because, you know, it wouldn't "look good" if he wasn't.
