A squadron commander (I use that term loosely--more like a manager) I had a couple years back very cryptically told me that the date you accomplish your AAD can be as important as actually having it done. I remember thinking "WTF?" but it turns out he was spot on.

I have only been to one CGOC meeting -- ever. The only reason I even went is because myself and all of the other "CGOs" in the Group were trick-fucked by the CC. We were told that there would be a "mandatory mentoring session", the subject of which being OPRs, in the squadron auditorium. We relunctantly showed up (on a Friday afternoon), only to see a bunch of shoes inhabiting the first two rows of our auditorium. A collective "WTF" was had by all until the CGOC President stepped up to the stage and welcomed us to this special convening of the CGOC. I, and everyone else, should have stood up and walked out immediately, but I think we all stayed just to have empirical data as to how douchey these people really are. Needless to say, I now have a lot of data after those 1.5 hours.

You've obviously never seen the "family model" mopeds in Thailand/PI/etc. Take a moped, with the father driving (kid on his lap), wife behind him, kid between them. She's sitting on a board and flanked by two kids on either side. Mom's texting on her Nokia, and there's not a helmet in sight. Now that's ghetto. I miss Asia.

Anyway, the gist of it was that a vast majority of the people promoted to O-4 had certain "boxes checked", being: IP in an MWS Flt CC/Shop Chief SOS In Res AAD Consistent strats I'm really reaching back, but I do remember this being a topic of discussion in the past. I'm not saying the above were the end all/be all for promotion to O-4, and as other's have said, the DP is important, but the above items (and probably some other things I'm looking over) certainly are looked at and noted by the boards.

Well put, Rusty. Those cases are not props for your stupid fucking "class photo" after your two-week or however long tech school. They are transfer cases used to carry heroes from the battlefield back home. It was inappropriate. People have been booted out of the AF for less, and for things that gained a hell of a lot less publicity than this thing.
