I've had the same policy with AAFMAA for about 7 years now. It was a very simple process and the low monthly premium is worth every penny. I think every service member should take advantage of this coverage to make sure your family is taken care of should the unthinkable occur.

1) It depends. #4 from a large wing or center of 20+ eligibles? I’m assuming not since there aren’t too many 2* WG/CCs out there. Or was it #4/4 from a staff director? The larger the pool the more significant the push and the better chance of getting picked up. 2) There has not yet been an eligible O-5 IPZ group that could have declined IDE to receive promotion board results. 2004 YG on their third look for IDE was the first IDE eligible group with that option. Their O-5 IPZ board is not until next month so you won’t have any possible data points until those results are released. My recommendation would be to see how the IDE results pan out and keep your options open. If you ID now, you are showing your cards early. With pilot retention being what it is, nowadays I would generally advise people to just be honest with their chain of command as to their true intentions rather than play the “I want to be a commander” game I grew up with. In your case, though, it sounds like you intend to stay in and compete for O-5. I think you can make a better case to decline school for family QOL reasons rather than remove yourself from contention now.

This. And in ROTC, GPA is a big chunk of the formula in the rated slot rack and stack. GPA also is a big factor in determining commanders ranking, which used to be 50% of the formula alone.

I know a guy that was given the exact same "mentoring", completed it the calendar year before O-4 pin-on, PCSed, and then in another "mentoring" session with his new CC was told he needed to bang out ACSC in correspondence to be competitive to go in-res. That CC didn't even bother to look at the guy's SURF before imparting wisdom. All this talk about shoes vs. ops.... we do it to ourselves.

Maybe it's just the times in which we live, but is anyone else bothered about the posting/airing of accident footage before the next of kin notification and initial investigation process can take place? Prayers and well wishes to the Buccaneers, their families, and anyone else who straps in and puts it on the line.

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
Champ Kind replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
Tax question aside, don’t you stand to gain more in compound interest by taking a lump sum and immediately investing the whole amount versus contributing your installment annually? -
Did they not talk to anyone in SAF before they decided on 100% promotion opportunity? Never mind.....why am I not surprised?

A year....? -
Would you straight-up tell your AFRC/ANG unit commander and your company's chief pilot exactly what it is you're up to and the circumstances behind those actions? If not, I think you have your answer. For some reason you seem to be beating a dead horse, and despite other people's attempts you seem to still have a lack of SA. Disclaimer: I'm still AD USAF.

Pilot Shortage Deepens, USAF is SCREWED.

BPZers, maybe. But even then that seems a year or two early to actually assume command. That’s been my experience in the MAF at least. But, I’m also hearing that the leadership bench is pretty shallow, so this shouldn’t surprise me. -

2006 commissioning year group? Filling squadron cc billets? -
I’m thinking about getting more into general aviation soon. Anyone have any personal recommendations for mil-to-civ (single to dual plug) converters (if that’s even a thing). Issued Bose A20s.

Can someone help me out and explain why the Died needs an exercise planner? Isn’t that a forward deployed base because we execute from there?

Different pots of shithole.

Ding ding ding. Yes, I was suggesting that green boots are likely on their way out. If the AF ditches ABUs for OCPs as the utility uniform, I would expect them to go with the “coyote brown” boots mentioned above. There will undoubtedly be a prolonged phase-in period as there was when BDUs went away. Because the BDU-to-ABU transition didn’t involve a new flying uniform, what I’m wondering is whether or not the green one-piece coverall flight suits will slowly go away in favor of OCP two-piece or (hopefully) if not will the brown boots for OCPs be authorized for wear with the green flight suits. In the end, it’s only $100 bucks for the Danners linked above which is a great deal for what I’ve heard is a solid boot.
-
What's the deal with the Danners being so inexpensive? Are sage green boots about to go the way of the black boots with OCPs supposedly about to become the new USAF uniform?
-
Several navs occupying (board screened) Wg/CV positions in the C-130 community, even with the full AD transition to the (nav-less) C-130J.
-
Can someone please explain this to me? I've noticed this trend in the MAF as well. The only explanation I could come up with is that most of these guys don't have airplanes any more and are able to do "other things" on staff, etc. (which is what the AF really values anyway) and that improves their looks on paper.

Pilot Shortage Deepens, USAF is SCREWED.

Pretty sure I remember him self-IDing as a troll last spring sometime. -
As far as I was aware, there were more O-6s than there were command opportunities. And if they start running short, they can always promote more early.

Has anyone in Congress hit up AF leadership during testimony regarding retention? -
Even in a large AF wing I’ve see the ability for a WG/CC to reach into a squadron, so this is really just removing the middle-man group CC. Not saying it is good or bad, but from my perspective it’s formalizing the relationship in practice since I’ve been in. Now, can senior leaders start talking about what NAFs actually do between the wing and MAJCOM?
-
Correct me if I’m wrong but is not generally how the Army organizes at the battalion and above level?
-
Any updates? Is the AF T-6 fleet still grounded?
-
I’d usually keep it centered for the vector reason listed above as well as having it in a somewhat useful position should we need to go to HDG mode and deviate for weather while at cruise. Setting it to the next leg’s heading on a low level in anticipation of off course maneuvering or the IP to DZ heading were also common techniques as well, but they were exactly that...techniques. Certainly nothing worthy of flipping your shit.
