  1. Terrible news. to Lt Riggan. The fog was literally insane today in COS. People were pulled over on the streets because they couldn't see anything. I can't imagine trying to get in to the airport today.
  2. Iranian flight simulator. This is the flight deck of an old MD-80, BTW.
  3. Your squadron's RA should give you a piece of paper with the funds and authorization to get the jacket. Then you head over to the base supply folks, and they take the form for billing purposes and give you a jacket. They have nothing to do with authorizing anything. Are you saying your squadron folks wont give you the authorization, or are you going to the base supply folks and asking for a jacket with no dinero?
  4. That's surprising, I hear the market for former Navs is pretty good right now. I know of at least three Eastern Mongolian airlines that need navigators.
  5. Sounds good to me. I'd like to see some CV-22s doing LLs here in COS. Although, I guess I wont be seeing too much at night.
  6. We've had several guys from my squadron go to green door jobs there (White Sands/Holloman). General consensus from what I've heard is that the area isn't as nice as COS, but job satisfaction is quite high. Nobody has said they wished they hadn't gone, so that's a good sign. NMSU is in Las Cruces so I'm sure there is at least some nightlife. White Sands is on my list too, so maybe we'll see you there! EDIT: One big downside...JUAREZ!
  7. That would be awesome if that were the case, but how do you get this going? Would everyone in the squadron vote for who they wanted to fill positions/get promoted? The Air Force has come to the conclusion that there is no way to identify the "good guys" objectively, so they just started looking for easily quantifiable ways to promote people. Does this person have their masters? Check. Have they completed PME? Check. It's gay, but it's reality. I know you know better than I, but when I read PRFs, they pretty much sound the same. Of course the superstars and dirt bags stand out, but other than that it's all gray. So how does a board separate the middle folks consistently across all career fields; they have to look at things other than how they do the job. This is also where backstabbing comes into play. There are only a few ways to stand out: you can volunteer for a crap ton of additional duties, you can excel at evals and inspections, or you can walk over your peers and highlight their faults while promoting yourself. Unfortunately, those that suck or are mediocre at the job generally pick the last option, and like you said, the folks that make decisions usually don't spot the d bags. Just my opinion.
  8. Frankly, I really don't give a shit. I didn't join the Air Force because of a motto. If I wanted sharp uniforms and a meaningful motto, I would have joined the Marines.
  9. I definitely agree that it's absurd how little people know about our aircraft inventory. However, I have to blame this on training. I know about our aircraft because I grew up around planes. Other folks didn't have that opportunity. How much do you guys know about AFSPC? I never learned a single thing about Air Force space assets in ROTC. I had no idea what kinds of satellites we had, or even that the entire GPS constellation was owned and operated by the Air Force. If your job is to learn travel vouchers, you probably aren't going to know a lot about C-17s. A little more focus on systems in our training programs could go a long way. Or maybe I'm wrong, and people really just don't give a shit.
  10. Don't know what kind of ride you are in the market for, but you might also want to check out BMWs military sales program. It's only available to folks deployed or stationed overseas, and they have some pretty sweet deals. BMW Sales
  11. I think it's a cool idea, but like you guys mentioned, we don't yet have the space assets to support this. Space is already used to track aircraft, but it doesn't provide near the amount of data as a FDR.
  12. Uhh...dude this was like 6 years ago, I'm sorry that I failed to provide documentation. Point is, the guy is huge, probably around 6'4" 215lbs. Anyways he had a very large waist, I think it was 40" or 41" or something. He failed the waist measurement, however, if you failed the waist you could use BMI to replace it, which he passed. I ran a 9:25, he was almost a full lap ahead of me, and I believe finished in around 8:30...although it could have been 8:34. Either way it was sub 9:36. We both maxed pushups and situps. I got a 100 and Excellent (because I'm skinny), and he got an ~87 and Good along with all of the other folks that had thin waists and were not in great shape. Maybe it was an 88 or possibly even 89. I seem to remember 87, but I don't have the paperwork, so I really can't be certain. Moral of the story, that is complete bullshit. He destroyed me on the run, and I beat him by ~13 points on paper. Oh yeah, I think this was a Tuesday morning in early September. EDIT: This is what I'm talking about.
  13. Agreed, the waist measurement is freaking retarded. Give those 20 points to sit-ups and push-ups, and the test would be much better. It's gay when folks are in great shape get low scores because of waist measurements. I had a friend that maxed everything and ran an 8:30...got an 87 because of waist measurement. That said, you can't deny there are a lot of fatbodies out there that jump on the "I'm in great shape but I just get killed by the waist measurement" bandwagon.
  14. Amen! I can't believe how many folks complain about having no time to put in the amount of work needed to pass our PFT. I'm thinking really, you don't have one hour per week? Your fatass eats Little Debbies for more than an hour a week. 25 year old dudes that can't run 1.5 miles in under 14:30?!?! UFB.
  15. Wow. Don't know what to say, keep up the good work guys!
  16. Wow, my submission could have been a lot better than "TIB is gayer than two dudes kissing" had I known those facts. Nice work Jarhead!
  17. Never get our money.
  18. WTF?! Maybe that's why my finance office has no idea what to do and keeps telling me to talk to MPF, who in turn keeps telling me to talk to finance. "We don't deal with money" -MPF "I don't know anything about SGLI." -Finance.
  19. Yes, but when it gets jacked up at the MPF, you have to go to Finance to get your money back.
  20. Seriously though, I think there are enough members here, along with friends and coworkers, to have the DoD take a serious look at TIB. Previous member supported campaigns have led to the destruction of careers, reputations, egos...eliminating TIB would be a triumph for the ages. TIB, pack your pantyhose, your days are numbered. EDIT: This literally takes 5 minutes or less. Do it.
  21. I live in base housing. My wife tells me that we live in Kansas every day. It sure is nice in the winter driving home from a mid shift at 6am on ice though.
  22. Buckley is right next to Denver Int'l. Really can't see that working out too well. Plus, why would the Air Force want to make UAV pilots happy? Agreed that Buckley is badass. Then again, pretty much every space base is badass. Major Space Bases: Buckley - Denver Schriever, Peterson, and Cheyenne - C Springs LA - LA Patrick/CCAFS - Cocoa Beach Vandenberg - Eh...Santa Barbara Plus other assignments to Eglin, Beale, and Cape Cod Not too shabby.
  23. It seemed to make sense (at least on the space side) having a general in charge of space operations and also being dual hatted as the commander of the JSpOC. Then again, maybe I was just really impressed by all the pictures and flow charts in the 14AF briefing.
  24. I have had to pay about 7 debts since I've been in the Air Force, which is pretty frocking ridiculous. One of the times I tried the proof must come from the accusatory party (like in the civilian world) and they showed me some reg that said they can basically take any amount of money whenever they want without showing you anything at all. A few months ago I went in to claim a debt against the Air Force for charging me family SGLI for 6 months AFTER I declined family SGLI, with all the supporting paperwork and they straight up told me no. I said that's bullshit and they told me I could start an appeal process that takes several hours to complete and possibly over a year to pay. Bottom line, they are going to screw you no matter what.
