True. A friend of mine growing up started to develop gingervitis...so his parents decided to put him down. I think it was better that he not continue to live like a soulless vampire. EDIT: Thanks nsplayr and SuperWSO....oh the power of suggestion.

Don't know anything about Preds, but don't you generally take the "remove before flight" tags off pre-taxi?
-
I wouldn't mind having that problem.

Holy shit, your avatar is fitting. Edit: ...Sir

Awesome. Crew Report, I actually haven't seen any 2Lts saluting 1Lts at any of the non-flying bases I have been at either, so it's not just a flying thing. Being a 1Lt simply means that people don't immediately think you know absolutely noting when they see you. -
I don't know if it would be an option for you, but I talked my HS into letting me do a work study program to work on my PPL/hang out at the FBO. I got to leave school 2 hours early everyday to go fly. It worked out quite nicely. If you have some sort of work study/COOP program, you should go talk to them.

Iran's current space capabilities are roughly equivalent to the US or USSR in the late 40's to early 50's. The Shahab III is crap, and Iran's attempts at satellite technology have just now equaled Sputnik. They have absolutely zero capability to provide us. The same can be said for the rest of the Islamic countries. That said, space must remain a realm of international cooperation. We must work closely with China, Japan, Russia, ESA, and Brazil if we want to make any further strides in space exploration. We simply can't afford to go it alone. That's the bottom line. Space should have nothing to do with religion.

Uhhh....well apparently you haven't noticed that there are plenty of tools at UPT/on AD/at your school/in the world. Besides, it's really not that hard to get to UPT from ROTC, especially if you are that in love with the Air Force.

Wow... It's amazing that in the information age, people still believe they won't get caught.

I took the test with the new fitness cell in April. I had a female and a dude proctoring my test, neither of whom had a day of military experience prior to this new job. Overall, I have to say that I was impressed with the experience. Obviously there are going to be shit heads as proctors, as mentioned above somewhere, but the dude and female doing my test were easy going, and knew the rules. I had a few pushups not counted, but I fixed my form and made them up. Is it so bad that people will actually have to do real push-ups and sit-ups now? They scored my test under both the old and new standards. The run time to max the new version is significantly faster (almost 30 seconds), and you have to do a few more pushups and situps as well. I think this is a good change though because getting a 100 on the old test was pretty freaking easy...compared to other services and compared to the old 500 point test. I really hope that these new standards trim the fat in the Air Force, literally. Space Command is overrun with fatasses and it's embarrassing that they represent the Air Force to the public. Plus, if you score a 90 you test once a year. For the first time we are not catering to the least common denominator, and I support that. EDIT: On the subject of time...tests are averaging 40mins to a little over an hour depending on the number of folks. I don't know what they are doing at Travis. Also, almost 40% of my squadron has failed so far.

Awesome, I would have voted for that dude. He is unemployed and has a felony, I'd say he represents a significant portion of the state. What the hell was with the delay? Was he in Baghdad, or did it just take him that long to comprehend the question?

This is just a freaking badass story I'm glad you guys found a way to make it work!

The Trinidad is an awesome airplane. I flew with a guy from Marietta, GA to Independence, KS (to pick up a new 172)...and he had 1/8th tanks when we landed ~5 hours later. Pretty impressive. It was a great plane, but not very well known from what I've seen. As far as aerobatic GA aircraft. I had the pleasure of flying with the GAANG commander in his Zlin a couple years ago and that was one of the most exciting flights of my life, a close second to riding with the Red Barons for some aerobatics. I don't know what it would cost for the Zlin, but if you have the means, I would say go for it. My BFR expired 5 years ago, and I have the itch to get back into GA. It's just so difficult to justify it right now.

Looks like we did our part... -
I know you said he doesn't want to play an instrument, but would he really rather dance?? Just tell him to play the drums. At my school, everyone had to take computer class, PE, art, music, and home ec, and then had to pick either chorus, band, or orchestra in addition. I chose the drums and actually really enjoyed it. I still have/play a set today. I dropped it right after middle school though, because HS band is gay. All the hot (relatively speaking for middle school kids) girls played the flute and liked drummers...so maybe that hasn't changed.

Construction begins on new Cyber Warfare Center Apparently this will be running the place...

Yep, that's who this was for. I don't know if it applied to the ROTC folks or not.

I have no idea what it's like living in Boulder, I live in the conservative block of Colorado. I just saw the memo instructing military folks to start wearing civilian clothes to work. I don't know if some incident provoked this or what.
-
Just a side note: Military folks working in Boulder now wear civilian clothes to work to avoid the harassment they had been receiving.

I think it would be nice if you could sell that leave to other people, namely me. I'd be willing to pay upwards of $3.50 per day.

Chotchkies requires only 15 pieces of flare, so Jennifer Anniston adheres to that standard. However, she is confronted by her boss many times for only wearing the required amount, and not trying to express herself like her D Bag co-worker Bryan that wears 37 pieces of flare. I would guess that the discontent felt by Jennifer Anniston for trying to follow the rules, and then still being confronted with bullshit expectations and compared to her D Bag co-worker is similar to the frustration felt by these pilots that have to now suffer new bullshit standards because of the other folks around them. In response, the only thing Jennifer Anniston (and these pilots) can control is how they express themselves; which means wearing the minimum amount of flare so as not to champion bullshit.

You are exactly right Zip. The problem with anything non-flying related is getting the rest of the Air Force to understand that there is more to it than meets the eye. They didn't create Undergraduate Network Warfare Training (that's what it is called whether that offends you or not) to teach folks to check IP addresses and fix the commander's email settings. These folks are also not using the computers that everyone else is. They are building/using some very capable machines, to do a very different job than your base comm office. Like everyone else has said, you can learn more via secure means; but even then you are getting a small piece of the pie. Let me just propose that we all accept the fact that the Air Force's new cyber geeks are doing an important job, and that they are not bound by the same frustrating network issues the rest of us are. Any further explanation or speculation leads nowhere. Also, cyber is not just Air Force. A unified cyber command is in the not too distant future.

...uh Office Space

You sure it wasn't a space badge? As far as I know cyber guys aren't wearing flightsuits and going to weapon school...yet. Space folks have been doing both for a minute.
