  1. I think the best military speakers I have ever heard are former FACs. They don't bullsh*t, and they won't make you fall asleep with death by powerpoint. If you can find an old grizzly O-1 pilot, I think that would be choice.
  2. § 61.183 Eligibility requirements. To be eligible for a flight instructor certificate or rating a person must: (a) Be at least 18 years of age; (B) Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language. If the applicant is unable to meet one of these requirements due to medical reasons, then the Administrator may place such operating limitations on that applicant's flight instructor certificate as are necessary; © Hold either a commercial pilot certificate or airline transport pilot certificate with: (1) An aircraft category and class rating that is appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought; and ( 2) An instrument rating, or privileges on that person's pilot certificate that are appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought, if applying for— (i) A flight instructor certificate with an airplane category and single-engine class rating; (ii) A flight instructor certificate with an airplane category and multiengine class rating; (iii) A flight instructor certificate with a powered-lift rating; or (iv) A flight instructor certificate with an instrument rating. All of this can be found here [ 16. May 2005, 22:37: Message edited by: c17wannabe ]
  3. Yeah, that's true. Good luck with your CFI, just remember that it is not the military. I have seen/flown with a few military guys, the ones that can't get past their military background aren't very much fun to fly with. [ 16. May 2005, 09:13: Message edited by: c17wannabe ]
  4. Negative, SAFETY PILOT IS PIC. You are a required crewmember in VFR conditions if the oher PIC is flying solely by ref to the instruments. This only applies if you are checked out in the A/C. There is great debate over the SIC part if you are not checked out in the plane but still fly safety pilot. Some say that you log SIC in this case, some say you can't "legally" log SIC if the a/c itself(not the situation) does not require a second crewmember. Personally, I logged SIC as a safety in a High Perf a/c before I got my signoff. Let me say again though, SAFETY PILOT IS PIC!
  5. Pershing Rifles is a fraternity in the technical since; but why pay to be part of a fraternity when you can go to their parties, get their sister sorority chicks, and not clean up or pay the bill.
  6. Anyone have any experience with having a drum set on base? I'm assuming I'm going to have to live in a house off base if I want to bring my drums with me. Any thoughts? (BTW-selling them is not an option)
  7. Dude, WTF is this. There are some prick officers, and there are some ROTC bums, and ROTC is a little ridiculous at times; but the point is, don't bash everyone if you've never even been there. I have met some GREAT officers in ROTC, rated and not. I have also had some really great Cadre (sts) that have really taught me a lot about the Air Force and life in general. Don't be so quick to assume you've figured out the game, because that shit just isn't true.
  8. The "A" stands for attack, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Navy. The Navy/Marines now have the kickass Super Hornets, and maybe the F-35 someday, but never will they own the mighty Raptor.
  9. Personally, I know the Air Force is the best service, and the mission that I want is only blue; but if I'm gonna be involved in something ROTC oriented, AAS just doesn't do it for me.(sorry Arnies)
  10. Fuc*in A is right. [ 02. May 2005, 10:33: Message edited by: c17wannabe ]
  11. Funniest thing I've heard all day. :D On a related note, how does the whole marriage thing between pilots work? Are you allowed to be on the same mission?
  12. At the Academy, the only hard thing about getting a pilot slot, is you have to put up with 4 years of the zoo. Everybody who is qualified, with a few exceptions, gets a pilot slot. I believe someone said that they had excess pilot slots last year, and started giving them to almost anybody.
  13. I can help you with the last couple of questions. From what I have heard, ROTC is the easiest way to get a pilot slot(aside from the Academy of course). A PPL is not mandatory, but definitely beneficial, especially since you would be a two year cadet. Pilot slots in ROTC are still really competitive, but not to the extent that OTS is. There are tons of threads on ROTC and OTS, so a search could answer your first couple of questions. Good Luck!
  14. We just started the process of getting a company at our school, and we have a few questions. How much do you guys spend out of pocket each year. What type of equipment does each company need(rifles, blades, guidons etc)? How much do the uniforms cost? Do you share equipment with Drill Team/Honor Guard? Finally, how much is the cadre sponsor involved with?

    RTU

The google hit deathmatch. Risky...yes, effective...absolutley.
  16. Alright, here you go. C-17 thread C-17 TDY a little more And for what I've heard, not seen, not flown, but heard, from a 17 dude: "C-17s are the perfect airplane for a young Lt that wants to see the world, fly a ton, and enjoy being single."
  17. I am indeed a cadet. Every time I tell someone in the Air Force what I want to fly, I hear "so, your not planning on raising a family, are you?" That, and there have been a shit ton of posts on C-17 deployment. [ 22. April 2005, 21:31: Message edited by: c17wannabe ]
  18. I can confirm the gone all the time thing for C-17s.
  19. I find it hillarious that the dude doesn't even chew; he did so only then to make his present more potent.

    V22??

hehe, I like that! There is a V22 test pilot guy at Rucker. I wonder what he calls it.
  21. I try not to mention Company X around my family or any other Lockheed employees. That being said, Lockheed had a display up comparing the C-17 to the C-5 showing how much more the 5 could carry. I went up to the guy at the display and asked him why the hell they would even try and compare Barney to Fred, and he said that they were basicallly the same thing. I then told him he needed a poster comparing the J to the C-17. The guy laughed and said that they have completely different missions. I remarked "I rest my case" and the guy just ignored me. Oh well, rant switch off.
  22. PAB are you inebriated? Your posts seem to be lacking the standard well planned whitty remarks. I guess I might need to ask, are you sober? ;)
  23. The J kicks some serious ass. The Brits and Aussies are both flying the crap out of it, and they are loving it. I was just on the assembly line on Saturday, and I was shocked that Lockheed is only currently producing 12 a year. Thats right, a dozen Js in a year. I can't remember Lockheeds capacity, but it was a shit ton more than 12. In other news, F-22s 52-56 were on the line, all of which are heading to Langley. Just thought I'd add that in.
