  1. What I would honestly like to see is an AFPC-generated number of promotion allocations per AFSC. Then, the WG/CCs, Grp/CCs and other senior leaders of each AFSC get together once per year to not only vector but also decide promotions. Whether it is a promotion rate, or a specific number, I think the leaders in each community could do a much better job than the masses at a CSB. Like someone mentioned earlier, strats are absolutely not created equally. In some career fields going to the schoolhouse means you are squared away, in space it means you weren't selected for a green-door job and they have billets to fill. So the #1 instructor in the schoolhouse would probably be somewhere in the middle or bottom at the NRO or in a space control squadron. Obviously there are exceptions, but not many. I'm sure every community has nuances like that, but they are probably invisible to everyone outside of that AFSC. If pilots have a 95% rate and space is 90% for example, I'd much rather have space dudes picking that 90% than the board members now that can't understand a single one of our OPR bullets. As numbers change, promotion rates change relative to that AFSC. It allows for much more dynamic and efficient management of career fields and a better product overall IMO.
  2. Nope, they didn't have that info. It seemed as if this is definitely going to happen, but the worker bees are still feverishly coming up with a timeline, plan, and details. HAF/Jt Staff for the top folks. NAF/MAJCOM are places to move bodies. Plus, "MAJCOM staff next" is really just a weak and meaningless push on the whole. If you have things like "Sq cmd a must," "#1 pick for cmd," etc. on your reports you're doing alright. Why is it like this? Why do I care/know? Trust me, I'm crying on the inside.
  3. I heard from a trusted person in the Pentagon today that there will be "drastic" cuts to the officer corps over the course of the next year. Additionally, he said they are looking into significantly lowering the O-4 and O-5 promotion rates to assist in the force management initiatives. Good luck to everyone. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
  4. For comparison, Russia has had two catastrophic failures in roughly a year. Our issues in 1999 resulted in placing two satellites into useless orbits; one of which was about a billion dollar loss. Our last explosion was this one in 97: "We've had an anomaly."
  5. USAF hasn't had a launch failure since 1999; 100+ payloads and counting. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
  6. Shut it down.
  7. Neither does infertility. That's it, sterile people can't get married anymore. Continue.
  8. I know some sodomites that aren't gay. Sometimes they even have sex with the lights on!
  9. WTF brah? What's your beef with AFSPC? From an outsider perspective, it's tough to relate at all to this thread. Life's good in the space world, it really is. We've got plenty of opportunities if we get out, good senior leaders, great job satisfaction, great assignment locations, deployments on a volunteer basis (minus a few units), and the right people are getting promoted for the most part. I feel sorry for those of you guys that no longer have a passion for what you do because of the extras that now come with it. I mean honestly, being a professional pilot, particularly in the military, should be one of the best jobs in the world. The fact that they have to throw money at you guys and still people want out is very telling, and troubling. What's my point in bringing my outsider view to this? It seems as though the pilot generals looking at this situation are about like a space guy doing the same. Their lives are great. Pretty much all of the things I've just listed apply except they also have drivers/chefs/aides etc. to sweeten the deal. It's easy to question motivation and job satisfaction when you've got it good. Bottom line, I hope you guys find a way to get the Air part of the Air Force back to feeling the sense of pride and satisfaction that once existed.
  10. Are those sweatbands on his wrists or did he survive an attempted suicide? It looks like gauze to me.
  11. Exactly. I saw two dudes kiss in the airport the other day and I felt disgusted. That's just how my body reacted. It wasn't some massive assault on PDA, it was just a kiss that I wouldn't have thought twice about if I saw a man and woman instead. That reaction doesn't make me a homophobe, it makes me straight. That said, I firmly believe that if those two dudes love each other and want to get married, they should have that right.
  12. If this is going to be an argument over the sanctity of marriage, defined by Christianity, then we need to also stop atheists, agnostics, Unitarian Universalists, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, celebrities et al from getting married. I have atheist friends that got married in a church, and nobody had a problem with that. The bottom line is that as much as some of you guys claim, marriage is not a religious matter, unless you practice a religion. To everyone else, it is really just a legal contract. When I got married in a courthouse in CA, there was nothing religious about it. Hell in my Oath of Office I said God more times than my marriage ceremony. When we later did our church wedding, it was a religious event that had a lot of meaning for everyone involved. But I had been legally married for almost a year by then. As a Christian the last thing in the world I want is for the Church or Bible to dictate our laws. There are places where that's the case: Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan...and women are stoned for being raped. Sure it's nice that Christianity is the dominant religion now, but what happens in 30 years when it's not? I completely understand freedom of religion not freedom from religion, but religious freedom stops the moment you try to control the freedom of others by projecting your religious beliefs on them.
  13. Absolutely. If you and the wives are consenting and of age. My wife likes that new Polygamy show a lot, and they bring up a lot of the same points gay people bring up. Valid points IMHO.
  14. Well said HOSS. To take it a step further, you guys realize you don't have to become gay now and marry a man right? I'm not really sure how this even affects you. I didn't want to marry a man, so I married a woman. If my neighbor wants to marry his boyfriend how the fuck does that affect my wife and I? And what if a gay couple adopts a child? Are you guys going to go out and adopt that child in the orphanage to stop that? I'd rather live in a gay home with loving parents than an orphanage if I were a kid.
  15. My guess is this is a good "pulse" for those in the building to check. Honest feedback that could never really be attained by talking to people face to face during a dog and pony show visit. All it takes is a browser, and you've got an instantaneous reaction to nearly all AF decisions. It's also a great way to get a senior perspective out to the masses. How many bases/squadrons are represented here? A ton. Liquid and Gen C post inside gouge, and the rest of us take it around our squadrons. One personal recommendation for a business is worth millions of dollars in advertising. Whatever the reason, I think the relationship could continue to be symbiotic. Edit: Fat fingers, small iPhone.
  16. The key is the last part of my statement "and that they can say and do whatever they want because of that belief." One of my coworkers told me that it was against his religious beliefs for women to be in the workplace in general. As long as he doesn't target or disrespect women because of that belief, I've got no issues with it. Personally, I enjoy having dual-incomes, I like that my wife has goals and a career, I enjoy being able to buy nice things. That doesn't work for everyone. The point is, I'm not going to treat anyone I work with differently because of their own personal beliefs, on anything. Where I draw the line is with people that DO play grab ass and make harassing comments because they don't feel that their female co-workers are their equal, and/or don't belong. I'm sure most of the people on this board have seen that at some point in their career. Not wanting women in combat roles is perfectly fine, so long as you don't treat women like shit because of that belief. Most people have no problem handling that balance. Some don't, and those people make life a lot harder for everyone.
  17. I thought it was a pretty good documentary as well. I think they went a little over the top with the one girl with the broken jaw, and didn't spend enough time on some of the officers that were abused by senior ranking people and then cast away by the service. My wife is in the Air Force, and some of the stories she tells me and emails she sends me are unbelievable. She can handle things fine on her own, but there have been several occasions where I've been close to finding people in the parking lot. She has a tough time balancing correcting people, especially those that outrank her, with just letting things slide. The danger with letting things slide is they almost always get worse. On the other hand, when women choose to speak up, they typically get the label of being a bitch and watch as their rankings and opportunities drift away. Of course, they can take all of that to the IG and get everyone in their chain fired and then get all of the jobs/strats back instantly, but that is shitty. My wife, and all of the other women I've worked with just want to be treated with respect, that's it. Actually, most males just want to be treated with respect as well. It's sad that there are so many fucking retards in the military that have no clue how to respect women, and this is how the military responds. Most of the problems I've seen are from dudes that don't believe women should be in the military at all, and that they can say and do whatever they want because of that belief. If that is you, it's time for you to retire/separate.
  18. Regardless of your views on evolution...WTF?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_ASzDDOaLyk
  19. So he has to wait until after he retires to cash the check right?
  20. Hell yes! I never understood why we were tied to the Savage forum, but it was generally funny when people crossed over to post in the "other" forum.
  21. Imagine the publicity stunt that will unfurl if he is ever given a target that he finds questionable. He is in the perfect community to take a noble stand. I can see the headlines now.
  22. I honestly don't know what's more surprising; that Gordon Ramsay has a midget porn double, or that the dude was found dead in a badger's den. Do badgers commonly snatch up little people?
  23. I think anyone who has flown on an airline with Indian passengers knows exactly what this plane probably smells like right about now...and it ain't curry.
  24. It says Royal Australian Air Force on the side...
