  1. How is it that people who live in the District can't even spell Silver Spring (there's no "s" on the end!)? Grew up there - pet peeve of mine. It's made a huge resurgence in the last decade with a major renovation in the downtown area. The area that keeps you within walking distance to the Metro isn't great though. Probably the most affordable MD suburb that isn't ghetto though (avoid Prince George's county at all cost - that place is a lost cause). Bethesda, Chevy Chase, & Kensington will also give you easy access to the city, but it ain't cheap. But if you are only going to be in the city for a semester I wouldn't bother with the suburbs anyway. $1600/mo. won't get you far in the trendy neighborhoods like Dupont or Georgetown, but as you get towards the city limits there are plenty cheaper places to live that give you Metro access and aren't in the ghetto. Have you looked into the American University area? A significant college crown there and its right next to Rock Creek Park. Chinatown (almost adjacent to the National Mall area) has put up a lot of new apartments recently too - I know a few guys from high school still doing the urban-hipster thing who love it down there - no idea what rent is though).
  2. Names have been released: https://rapidcityjour...240e8e2434.html Ryan was a great friend, stationed with me in the 41st - unbelievably fun guy to be around. He seemed to never stop smiling. Was new to the NC ANG and was super excited take on the MAFFS mission. I think his last facebook post says a lot about his character:
  3. I've got a copy on my hard drive. No way in hell I'm destryoying it though - too damn funny. I also used it as a training aid to my students on what NOT to post on YouTube.
  4. https://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/c-130-aircraft-sent-fight-wildfire-crashes-south-d/nPkMx/ Charlotte area news is reporting that there were fatalities.
  5. What the difference between Navigators and homosexuals? Gays have a future in the Air Force.
  6. I can tell you a realotor NOT to use. Erma Sanders. She's old school racist & is more concerned with preserving the town of Columbus as she understands it than buying/selling real estate. I know a few guys who used Doris Hardy (Century 21 I think) because she's affiliated w/ USAA and they had mostly positive things to say. Same goes for Phillis Enis with Coldwell Banker - I heard good things but wasn't persinally involved.
  7. You're probably thinking of the AIB, which comes out later (sometimes much later) and has different content than the SIB. "The purpose of an accident investigation is: a. To provide a publicly-releasable report of the facts and the circumstances surrounding the accident, to include a statement of opinion on the cause or causes of the accident; and, b. To gather and preserve evidence for claims, litigation, disciplinary, and adverse administrative actions, and for other purposes. In contrast, the primary purpose of a safety investigation is to find the cause of an accident in order to take preventative actions." https://usaf.aib.law.af.mil/AIB_Info.html
  8. Did Iceman join the Air Guard?
  9. Planning the squadron Christmas party never hurts either.
  10. Why should you have?
  11. Your mean people like the POTUS? "Even as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we reaffirm our commitment to care for those who served alongside them-the veterans who came home. This includes our newest generation of veterans, from Iraq and Afghanistan." https://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/1642447/The-Presidents-Memorial-Day-Message.html Or the CSAF and the SECAF? "As we remember our fallen, captured, or missing service men and women, we also express our deep gratitude to those who are currently defending our Nation. Today, more than 33,000 Airmen are deployed around the world, while over 134,000 provide global support from their home station. Among our all-volunteer force, 68 percent of Airmen joined the Air Force after 9/11, and have never known a peacetime military. The men and women who answered the call by saying, "Send me," truly exemplify Service before Self." https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123302580
  12. HANG IN THERE BABY!
  13. Wait, let me get this right . . . . you think you have MORE money after you get married?
  14. Your bucket list should start with reading the first page of this thread.
  15. https://battleland.blogs.time.com/2012/05/02/drone-pilots-we-dont-get-no-respect/ "…what is the differential risk between 10,000 feet and 10,000 miles in current conflicts?" “but I argue strongly that the differential risk of being an RPA operator in this war is at least that of an in-theater pilot.” Rodney Dangerfield would be so proud.
  16. https://deadspin.com/5906011/tim-mccarver-blames-climactic-change-for-the-increase-in-major-league-home-runs “It has not been proven, but I think ultimately it will be proven that the air is thinner now, there have been climactic changes over the last 50 years in the world, and I think that’s one of the reasons balls are carrying much better now than I remember.”
  17. "- Andrews ($4,180): Hosted VCSAF at Star Wars themed combat dining-in; 142 pers raised $3700+ " I just shit myself.
  18. So what would it look like if she released her FEF to the public? Lots of people have demanded to see the military records of vets who have run for office when someone questions the quality of their service. If all the stories are true, shouldn't she have some Q3s in there - something that would verify the caller's accusations and discredit her? Or did politics take care of that too?
  19. My SOS Flt/CC told us that he was getting a checkride (and he wasn't joking) at the end of our class. The "Stan/Eval" instructor sat in on several of our classroom lessons.
  20. Or give credit to Obama for the lack of fatalities.
  21. I've always found it facinating that as they watched their ship sink waiting to be resuced, the sailors joined to gether and sang "Always Look on the Bright Side of LIfe" from The Life of Brian.
  22. At one point every elevator had to have an operator because it was too dangerous to get in one without someone trained in their operation. I would guess that in the 1860s there were people who said "no one will ever get in one of those things with out an operator". Airliners without a pilot (in the sense that we currently understand pilots) will happen, and probably in our lifetimes. Well maybe not in Rainman's lifetime . . . . People who can't see that are like the set designers of Star Trek who though that in the future every computer would take up an entire wall and consist primarily of large blue and red lights that flashed in sequence. Computers get smarter every day. Every day. To argue that a computer 50 or 60 years from now will be unable to control the air conditioner, pull a fire handle, or decide that the Hudson is the only available landing surface withing gliding distance is incredibly short-sighted. I do think that it will be technologically fesable well before it's economically feasable and publicly agreeable. But it will happen. And you're great-great-great grandkids will have a great story to tell about how awesome you were to be part of the 169 years of human history that had people sitting behind the controls of aircraft.
