The 41st AS was officialy re-alligned from Pope to Little Rock today. To my utter horor I had to take off the "cloud 9" patch and put on a weak ass 2 AS "Flaming butt dart" patch. The J model guys stand up at the Rock next month from what I hear, but it's definitely sad to see the flag rolled up and shipped off. To all the current and former Blackcats (Mr. Baseops.net himself included) Here's to 31 years at Pope; hacking the mission and getting sh*t done. Anywhere, Anytime.

This attention whore finally got the boot. Drill Sergeant Who Posed Naked for Playboy Removed From Active Military Duty SAN ANTONIO — An Air Force drill sergeant who posed nude for Playboy magazine has been removed from active duty, she said Wednesday. Whether that amounts to an honorable discharge, as Michelle Manhart also says, is unclear. Manhart, who appeared in a six-page spread in Playboy's February issue, said she got word Friday that she was removed from "extended active duty" and was also told that she was demoted in rank from staff sergeant to senior airman. "I'm disappointed in our system," Manhart told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "They went too far with it." Rest of story here: FoxNews

Jack Daniels is Tennessee Whiskey, not Bourbon. Bourbon used to have to come from the county in Kentucky to be called Bourbon, but I think that is no longer the law. I do know however, that since JD goes through a charcoal filter it is not Bourbon, but Tennessee Whiskey. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

drewpey, You are now the greatest Baseops.net poster ever. Because of worthless blobs of flatulent mung like this I have to go to mandatory PT this morning.

Maybe you should just look her up on the global and send her a little note to tell her how you feel.

Thanks but that isn't what I am acutally looking for. 11-401 3.4.1 covers Primary Time (vs Seconday/Instructor/Evaluator Time). What I am looking for is the definition of Primary Assigned Aircraft (PAA) hours as it is used in 11-2C-130v3 5.4.2 (it's also used a lot in chapter 9).
-
Anyone know the reg that specifies what is required to log PAA hours? Specifically, do you accumulate PAA hours when under instruction? I've searched 11-202, 11-401, 11-2C-130v1 & v3 to no avail.

THREAD REVIVAL I got back from AC school a couple weeks ago and thought I'd pass on some good words about Overbrook Apartments. It's located in a great spot right off of JFK Blvd, almost exactly 1/2 way between the base and downtown. Unlike my stay at the Links during co-pilot school, at Overbrook I dealt with competent management and tenants who gave a damn about the complex. Some people have been living there for over 10 years, which is weird, but they take care of the place. Management didn't have a problem with us bringing the dog, prorating rent, or breaking the 6 month lease. After I moved out I heard that they now do 3 months leases just for military folks. They don't have furnished places, but Dixie Rents hooked us up with decent stuff. For the money I haven't seen a better apartment in the LR area if you're bringing the wife/kids/dog/midget/etc.

Never seen it written and would never bother to look it up, but I have been told twice that the desert gloves I wear every day are not authorized with the green flight suit - only green or black . . . Might just be an AMC thing.

He had the old school "cookies & cream" DCU pattern on a cloth cover over his biker helmet. Seemed like he just rode back and forth between CC and Ops all day long. I once heard he was the Med Group CC, which might explain his REMF-ishness. In any case he was a total choad.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I am indeed reviving a 4 year old thread . . . I need to sign up for this test soon and was wondering if anyone had any tips for making a good score. I understand the basic rules for the test, but I'm curious if there is any way I can prep my brain for it. Anyone? . . .

M2, I have been using that Ft Bragg number exculsively over the last 2 years to call home from the desert. It gets you to a dial tone where you can make local calls or dial a 1-800 number for calling cards.

I've heard of some sweet assignments flying C-12's for the State Department in Africa and South America. I know about the remotes to Korea, but that is not what I am interested in. I searched the AFPC website, but found nothing. Anyone know where I can get some gouge, or any good people to talk to?

The 2AS at Pope will get J models first, but since Pope is being BRAC'd the 2nd will be at LR when it happens. I had actually heard that the 50th at LR will be the first AD unit to get them. Seems like it will still be a few years before anyone in the AD sees them though.

We got our first MPD guy last summer, but I am not sure that any of them are ever flying from the left seat. It's tough enough for a traditional co-pilot to keep all his currencies between deployments, let alone a whole new list of them from the left seat. Like anything else I guess we'll just make it work. But I have a hard time seeing how we are going to find the training lines to take care of these guys, while at the same time teaching them how to work as a co-pilot. And I haven't seen any of them show up with an attitude like they are better than a traditional CP, which is good because they'd get put in their place right quick like by a lot of people we have who thinks the whole program is a waste.

You guys call Las Vegas and Diego Garcia "deploying"? Although I wasn't there long enough to get bored, K-2 was a nice place. Food rocked and the gym was the better than a lot of CONUS bases. Plus it was green. After 110 days of nothing but flat brown dirt and sand it was nice to see rolling green hills. All the ex-Soviet propaganda they sold and the SU-27s rotting on the tarmac were cool too. [ 21. February 2006, 21:48: Message edited by: HercDude ]

Carolina Trace (AKA Pope AFB annex) and Carolina Lakes are the two biggies. I'd venture to say that 1/3 of the married officers in the 2AS and 41AS live in one of the two. If you are ready to buy a house then from all I have seen and heard this is a good bet. If not, you can find 3 bedroom houses in there that rent for around $700 - $850 a month.

Lots of guys recently have been buying houses towards Raleigh. I only know one guy who lives in the city proper (90 minute commute at the least), but quite a few live in the suburbs - Apex, Cary, and Fuquay-Varina. The housing market up there is solid, but I really don't know much about apartments there. Great communities and an awesome town to be close too. Southern Pines and Vass have some apartments and are within 30 - 45 minutes of Pope. Not a whole lot going on there commercially, but decent nightlife. It's over an hour to Raleigh from there The town of Sanford lies almost exactly 1/2 way between Raleigh and Pope. There isn't much there - standard southeast town of 35,000, but it will get you yo the bars on Gleenwood in 35 minutes, or to work for your 0330 show Monday morning in 40 minutes. There are a few apartment complexes there. PM me if you have specific questions. There are way too many apartments in Fayettenam to start listing them here, but I'll second that you are never too far from the ghetto in that town. If you are single and think you'll be wanting to go out a lot, I'd reccomend living elsewhere. If you are married buy a house in one of the gated golf communities. If however shoddy strip clubs showcasing 5th class swamp donkeys is more your cup of tea, then perhaps the 'nam is the place for you.

I don't want to join the Air Force, I don't want to go to war . . . . Might have just been a Lakenheath thing. I don't know because I no longer hang out with people who point with their elbows.

The new DIRMOBFOR, Gen. McDew, will be there for 4 months. I just kind of assumed that meant everyone had that job for 4.

I stumbled accross this article a few weeks ago after debating this very topic with a friend: Too Many Medals The main point I got out of it was that the USAF has handed out 69,000 medals for OEF, OIF, and ONE. The USMC has handed out 1,000. This was 2 years ago. That ought to tell you a lot.

"Thud Ridge" by Jack Broughton. It's about F-105 pilots in Vietnam. It's not well written, but if your interested in what a combat mission over 'Nam was like, it will be a good read.
