  1. Just wanted to say thanks for the thread revival. I hadn't read this one in years, and I still can't keep a straight face when I read the mighty accomplishments of Lt Brogan Steele.
  2. https://www.gofundme.com/daddyisapilot I've let my feelings on crowd sourcing be know on another thread. I hate it. This is why.
  3. I didn't mean to imply they (Broken Lizard) were dumb - just the people that gave them money for essentially noting in return. That movie was getting made either way.
  4. So let me get this right...... The creators of Super Troopers were too lazy to go get funding from investors, so they just asked a bunch of millennials to give them money to make a movie. And in exchange for handing over their money, they will go pay more money to see this in a movie theater? This is dumber than TLC asking their fans to pay for their next record.
  5. There was a guy who posted here several years ago named CAP_Soft_Sandy who tried to tell us how hardcore CAP was, how he sat alert all the time, how he was ready to fight back with his C-182, etc. Comedic gold from what many guessed was a rabid troll but was ridiculous all the same. Thanks for the walk down meeory lane! EDIT: Here is a link to the Classic thread - it appears to be 2 threads merged into one at some point.
  6. Wait what? Maryland - which used to have Es, then got Js, then got C-27s, then lost their iron altogether and replaced it with an intel squadron - is getting Js again? Source? Charlotte divesting itself of the -130 and associated MAFFS mission (which presumably would need to be picked up by another east coast -130 unit) and getting C-17s is a rumor I have been hearing for a while, but I've recently heard 2 different ANG OGs tell me it's likely to happen "soon." Whatever that means....
  7. This right here is why I chose the path I did. Flying a light twin is weird. The PA-23 I flew was crazy sensitive compared to anything I could remember flying, and it seemed as if I moved my head 3" to the right, the plane would instantaneously put it's self in a 5° bank. The trim was on the ceiling, it had a vaccum powered ADI, and seemed to get tossed like a rag doll by 15 knot winds. I had also never flown under foggles or in the local area where I took my check. If you think you can overcome these challenges - and I have no doubt many people can - in just 4-5 hrs of flight time, then I'd go with any of those courses you see with high marks. Failing this check would be a huge black mark that will follow you around for a long time. Do your research, make a lot of phone calls, don't be afraid to spend money, and don't go with a course you aren't comfortable with.
  8. I went to Prairie Air Service in Benton, about 20 min outside Wichita I think. It's a one-man show run out of the guy's house on Stearman Field (which is an awesome place to go anyway - there's about a dozen Stearmans based there along with an assortment of old warbirds). PAS ran me more than Accessible Aviation or some of the other names you'll find on this thread. I personally had a problem with giving Nuzzo any of my money, so I looked around elsewhere for a reputable place. Herb Pello is the owner and has been instructing since the 70's. Unlike All ATPs, Accessible, etc. he let me learn at a pace I was comfortable with, so I had over 15 hours in his PA-23 before my check. Some guys may be comfortable jumping into a light twin - I definitely wasn't (IFT was my only experience with piston & civilian flying) and was very thankful for the training I got there. Maybe I'm not as good a pilot as I think I am, but I don't see how on earth I could have flown a single-engine ILS with less than 1/4 scale deflection after only 3 hours in that thing. Still knocked it all out in 5 days though, and the DPE he used was very fair. Here is his website: https://www.prairieairservice.com/
  9. Recently interviewed with the 172AW in Jackson, MS for a TR job transferring from another airframe. There were 5 people on the interview panel - 1 LM and 4 pilots of varying backgrounds. - What is your leadership style - Tell me about an EP you had - Tell me about a time you failed, and what you learned - TMAAT you disagreed with your boss, and how you handled it - TMAAT you took input from a subordinate - What do you bring to the table besides flying experience - Why do you want to come here - Why DON'T you want to go somewhere else (specifically named a different unit I was interviewing with) - Why should we pick you
  10. I looked into Arizona Flight Training Center in Glendale, AZ last year and heard/read good things. They advertise a military-specific training program. I ended up going to a place in Kansas though, so can't speak to the quality of training at AZFTC. I'd imagine if you know anyone at Luke they can get you first-hand gouge.
  11. There's only one emergency phone line on base, and it's the number answered by an officer? Sounds like a brilliant gentleman you were dealing with there.
  12. Fu*king fail and a half! Pvt. Gomer Pyle and nothing else.
  13. No, most of his stunts are done by a little known stunt double named Tom Crooze:
  14. Really? What's the logic behind that? Are traditionals walking away from the service at an unacceptable rate?
  15. Say again? SocialD is absolutely right that if you are under 40, the Class 1 is good for a year. AirlineApps and GPC both ask for your exam date and the expiration date, so why would anyone need to make it arbitrarily more restrictive? What is this, the Air Force?
  16. All AF is in hard billets. Aircrew are generally 3 to a room because this place is overrun with ground pounders (perhaps 2/room if you're a J model or Barney guy). Rumor has it that the Marines & Army will find a new home in the coming months, which will open up a lot of space here. No cadillacs, but depending on your dorm you may have your own bathroom, share it with one other room, or have a communal rapey-style bathroom. Wifi is good enough to stream Netflix and have a pretty clear conversation via FaceTime/Skype. I think every room has a mini fridge, and most have a TV. Sadly, the fashion network is no longer carried. Chow improved dramatically over the last several years - still not great but it's on par with the rest of the AOR. I'm not even sure I brought a reflective belt on this deployment, but I know I've never had one on, and no one has ever said anything. Can't wear flip flops in the chow hall or tank tops anywhere outside - other than that dress code is the same as the Deid. Gym is still pretty nice. Haven't seen an official policy letter, but apparently Beats by Dre are mandatory. Bring lots of aspirin. Somehow Mohaleb has gotten orders of magnitude less competent in the 10 years I've been coming here.
  17. He feels "victimized"?!? There isn't enough sand in California to fill that guys vagina.
  18. So you don't think that would send the signal that the General's death was more important than say, Pfc Keith Williams? Because that's the way it would be spun if he had chosen to attend. This is why the POTUS goes the the wreath laying at Arlington on Memorial Day, represents the nation at D-Day ceremonies, etc. All battle deaths are tragic, and none should be treated different than the other. I too would have expected the SecDef to attend, especially given that his office is about 2 miles away. Is he out of the country or something?
  19. Just curious - what do you think the IJ Review headline would have been if Obama or Biden had been at General Greene's funeral?
  20. I'll try to say it more straightforward. A civil court would not have been able to convict this guy 9 years after the fact, assuming he could afford a competent attorney. Any punishment he is getting should be viewed as beneficial for the victim and the public. 5 months sounds like a light sentence. The likely loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars actually is a harsh sentence.
  21. I agree. But I have a hard time believing that if this were a civil case and the dude could afford a half-way decent lawyer, that he would have been convicted at all. Unless somehow physical evidence is still around from a 9 year old unreported rape. The loss of pension and lack of job opportunities due to a dismissal is going to hurt him a lot.
  22. That's not how I look at it. Everyone gets a PME push on their OPR, don't they? At least 2Lt thru Major. What the Exec or whoever is saying though makes it clear that the Wing's policy is that a guy CAN NOT get a PME push unless he has completed it in-correspondence already. This is 180° out from what the CSAF has made clear he wants to pursue as an AF-wide policy towards PME.
  23. This is very true. For instance the CSAF has addressed practice bleeding, echoing what has been shouted from the rooftops by CGOs and Majors for a decade. But the colonels and generals between Gen Welsh & I just choose to ignore him:
