I worked with Anthony, he was one of the best people I've ever met. Godspeed to him and his wife.

I love how this thread turned south after one reply. But on a serious a BJ and a cup of coco would be a holiday delight.

Guard/Reserve to Active Duty
PlanePhlyer replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Hey Daredevil, I might be able to shed some light on the subject. I was an E-6 with the Mass ANG and was in for 9.5 yrs with a degree in MechEng. I got picked up as a pilot on the 0505 board and I am about to have my first flight in the B-1 next month. I think the board looks at the whole pic. I worked hard at my guard base and got good LOR's and had about 250 hrs flying time. As long as you make it in before the age cutoff, I don't think the board cares about age. I could be wrong, but I got picked up at age 26 and started UPT around 28yrs old. If you have any specific questions feel free to drop me a PM. Good luck you you bro, Planephlyer -

Well during an IR route survey Ive found myself drinking at the crappiest bar in Farmington NM. I feel like Ive gone back in time. No offense to anybody who is from here. That's all I wanted to get off my chest. Cheers to me!

Let me clarify... "A random cougar," seeing as there was no reference in the article to a particular cougar. Is that better?
-
Came across this gem this morning. I certainly could have used this a few times. My question is, what happens when you want to that cougar? https://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29971638/

Was browsing a liquor store in Abilene the other day and ran across Jeremiah Weed Sweet tea vodka. Just wondering if it's as delicious as the original before I waste my money on a poser.

Keep hitting the weights, and drink alot of fluids. Preferably Jeremiah Weed the night before, followed by a couple of aspirin and a gatorade in the a.m. It works for me

RIP and Godspeed -
Yeah for VN, I think it was... F-16 x 2 B-52 x 1 T-6 x 1 F-15E x 1

I'm at Vance and I went to the Staples off base and they had the T-6 cockpit on file. They printed off an almost life-size poster of the cockpit and laminated it for like 30 bucks. Not sure what is down by Laughlin, but it may be worth a try.

Approach it responsibly and aggressively: bang out those CDC's ASAP, get your 5- and 7-levels in minimum time, volunteer for every TDY that comes along, and above all else treat your Guard commitment as your #1 priority. Remember, you're an officer first, pilot second, and coming up through the ranks will help you develop into a very good officer IF you remember all those lessons you learned and apply them in the future" That is awesome advice. The A-10's that are going to FtSmith (I believe thats the 188th) are the ones from the Mass ANG (my old unit). My advice: Don't pick a job because you think it'll give you face time or closer to pilots, pick a job that you're going to enjoy. I did weapons (actual career is called Armament Systems Specialist) because it sounded exciting. I was right. Crewdawg1 wrote: "Things to remember, being in the unit can also work against you. Don't be a sh*t bag. Show up to drill on time. Work hard in your job. Don't just treat it like a stepping stone, they will see right through you. Your flight/section chief might have more power than you think about whether you get a pilot slot. I had my Chief, flight sup. and my trainer tell me that someone on the board had talked to them about me. Something to keep in mind" That is some more really good advice. Work hard...Play hard and don't be $h!tbag.

Hey man...I'm now an active duty deuceLT, but I was an Air national Guard Weapons Loader on the A-10. It was AWESOME!! I went on sooo many TDY's (mostly because I volunteered for them, but a few were mandatory). I met alot of cool people and did some really interesting stuff. I met alot of pilots and made alot of connections. I finished school and wanted to fly for my life, so thats why I'm active duty. I had alot of buddies who were CrewChiefs and they really liked their jobs too. Weapons and Crewchiefs do alot of work together and they are both fun jobs. You'de probably enjoy either one. What base is it and what planes do they have?
-
That was pretty impressive...can't wait to try that in a T-38 Think the AF would give out a waiver to try it??

I'll try dude considering I'm a technician in the Mass Air Guard (Armament Systems). In regards to full time/traditional or AGR/technician. Full time means that is your full time job and you are either an AGR (active guard reserve) or a technician (wg-10, ws-09, gs-12...theres different wage classes for different jobs). AGR is in essence full time employee at a national guard/reserve base that is paid just like an active duty member. A technician is a federal employee that is paid hourly. A "traditional" is a member of the national guard that does their one weekend a month/two weeks a year deal and either goes to school full time or works full time. In regards to retirement points think of one day of active duty = to 1 point. So for an individual to "do their 20" typically means that they have done 20 years of active duty. This boils down to about 7300 retirement points. So after 20 years the person would get a percentage of their pay when they hit 60 or 65(not sure the age). As a traditional, they get points by doing the one weekend a month thing and 2 weeks a year (or more if they get activated or volunteer for more deployments). EX:I'm a technician (no military retirement poitns), so I work full time at the guard base as a weapons mechanic. On the guard weekends I'm now getting retirement points for the military. Not sure if that helps, its kind of an intricate web. And sorry for the long post, its a very boring night in New England. PlanePhlyer

Hey all...I'm heading to Maxwell as part of OTS 0607B and I really want to get into ENJJPT. When during OTS do you apply? How many apply and how many get selected? If you went that route, what did they look for? Any information would be great.

I'm in my last semester as a Mechanical Engineering Studen and I would imagine the first 2 years of Aerospace and Mechanical are virtually the same. Expect Calculus 1, 2 and 3, probably Differential Equations, Calculus based Physics 1 and 2 as well as all your basic english and history classes. Junior and senior year is where you break into your specific major's classes. Expect a ridiculous amount of work, long hours and many sacrifices. In the end it'll be worth it because nobody can take your knowledge away. Any more questions feel free to ask. PlanePhlyer
