  1. Thread Revival! Can someone who knows who the current functional at AFPC is please PM me?
  2. For what? Starting a group on facebook and expressing an opinion that other people happen to agree with?
  3. Exactly! As usual, the article misses the point.
  4. I hear you, but that is exactly the sort of apathy that allows this sort of queep and bureaucracy to get worse, and it will get worse. If it's bullshit, it needs to be identified and treated as such. No it's not easy, but it's ultimately worthwhile. That is one reason I've heard discussed but I don't think it's the true underlying reason or an appopriate response to the siutation. The real underlying reason is that AF leadership either 1. Got pressure to conform with other services who were already wearing PT gear downrange or 2. Saw the other services wearing their PT geard downrange and wanted to conform. Either way, what we have now that is driving a lot of these changes is the former. AF leadership is getting pressure from Army types...like the current CENTCOM CC.
  5. Shack. The discussion of who/what drove the late TO/CANX, assuming it's not due to gross buffoonery (that needs to be fixed) on anyone's part, is irrelevant.
  6. Saluting in PTs is finally here, but that's because it's now AFCENT wide. As with other issues, not as bad as the Deid. Right now, at least, that's in large part due to the fact that the AEW/CC is pretty down to earth.
  7. According to the golobal, one's a SSgt and one's a TSgt. I would submit to them that they don't have the big picture. As for the wife, no one cares what she thinks anyway.
  8. As previously mentioned it's getting busier again. The efficiencies we gaind through 2 EAS that were supposed to go towards improved family life/training are now being used by TACC to move more pallets of bubble wrap and 52" plasma TVs. It's a good time to be coming in if you want to stay single and build hours.
  9. Wish I could help, but I'm a little further north. Keep up the resistance! Remember the Code: "...I will continue to resist by all means available."
  10. Interesting that they haven't made any attempt to replace the sign since that pretty much obscures their DB message.
  11. You didn't know some of those dudes were civilians? Or are you saying you didn't realize they were contract (vs DOD) civilians?

    Gun Talk

Normally I carry my Glock 21 with a 13rnder in the weapon (figure that's all I should need). Lately (when I'm not deployed) I've been carying my S&W 629 with a 4" barrel and a speed loader. I don't really need a .44 Mag as a carry weapon, but it's actually less bulky than the Glock and easier to conceal. Unfortunately neither weapon is very concealable when wearing warm weather cloths so I've been in the market for a good compact. I've been looking at some .40s (Walther PPS is in the lead right now) and .380s, but I've been thinking seriously about a Kimber lately.

I recently started looking at the Kimber Ultra CDP II for carry. Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm curious about concealability in warm weather cloths and reliability. I would think it being a Kimber, reliability wouldn't be an issue, but I've seen some reviews that talk about multiple FFS.
  14. Depends on when you start the clock, but I think we've seen even quicker upgrades pre 2 EAS and may be going that way again.
  15. Oh yeah? This wasn't getting personal? Sounds like you're trying to impress everyone with how big your hog is.
  16. I think someone else already said it, but I resent your GF's implication that none of us on AD have what she considers to be "real relationships". I've gotten to see my wife for 2 out of the last 14 months, but our relationship is more "real" than a majority of folks out there. The quality of the relationship has more to do with the people in it than anything else. What's my point? If it's going to work, it'll work whether you go to UPT or not. So, don't use this thing with your girl as an excuse to give up before you even get started. If the AF life is for you, it's part of who you are and if she doesn't like that part of you, then it's only a matter of time. If it's not for you, then good riddance.
  17. Go on...
  18. I've heard through the rumor mill that you get some disability once you cross a certain threshold WRT NVG time. I've never heard a % associated with it and I've heard everything from 50-150 hours for the threshold. I definitely wouldn't put much stock in it.
  19. If nothing else that was one of the more coherent posts I've seen from a newb on this forum. As stated above, I encourage you to stick around and learn something about how/why we think and act as we do...and yes, you will need to be thick skinned.
  20. Actually it was no shorts off the rock. Shorts on the rock were OK. The shirt tuck boner must be at SQ/CC level and below. I did have a 1st Shirt try to yell at me right after I finished a run for having my shirt untucked and I asked him to kindly EABOD. Actually I said, "Nope, I'm exercising", and the matter was dropped. Everything else checks.
  21. Yeah, buddy! I wish they would have kept that one open, it would have been nice to get stationed back home for a few. Back on topic. My wife and I started talking about base names and she asked who McGuire was named after. I told her, and she wanted to know why there was a based named after our #2 ace but no Bong AFB. Well, as it turns out there was supposed to be, but it was closed before the runway was poured. It's now the Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Wisconsin. I've always felt that we should consider naming an AFB after him. Edit: Caint Speal.
  22. What's your point?
  23. Currency requirement is 2 per semi-annual (one day one night/NVG). I did 3 this quarter, but that's unusual. As an airland guy, I've never done a real world low-level. I guess the airdrop guys do, but I don't know how common that is.
