  1. (Warning, rhetorical questions to follow): Yeah, but how often do you really do real world drops, and how much time do you spend at home station training vice doing the airland mission? How much does AC airdrop at Altus suck? My point is, AD is not all sweet flying and supporting the troops. On the other hand, the airland mission is pretty sweet, you still do low levels (which are plenty fun), and you don't spend as much time at home training.

    Gun Talk

Hmmm...didn't realize WWII vintage was hard to get a hold of, but makes sense. I'm more interested in a good shooter than a display model right now, so that's probably the way to go as long as it has the look and function and it's a 30 06

Thanks! I'd heard about the CMP years ago but thought it was defunct...plus I couldn't remember WTF it was called

    Gun Talk

I've been looking for a good M-1 Garand (preferably WWII era) for quite a while. Just wondering if anyone has advice on good sources. I pretty much have just gone to local gun shops and gun shows. I currently live in Tacoma but don't necessairly want to limit myself to that area.
  5. I was a newly minted 1Lt at KBAD working nights during an exercise. I was on my way home from the gym and heard it on my car radio... Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that day as I sat guled to the TV like everyone else in the nation. I was thankful over the next couple of days to be on nights as I drove off base in the morning and noted the line of cars trying to get in the gate. A couple of weeks later my SQ was deployed, getting ready to drop some mothafuckin' bombs. Edited for grammer.
  6. Not sure what an ETT or PRT is, but you illistrated my point exactly (I think). I don't think anyone would argue folks actually in the AOR getting shot at and dodging IEDs aren't fighting the fight and could be called warriors...like our combat truckers. However, a lab tech in a rear base is not a warrior, whether that rear base is in the AOR or not. But then I don't consider what I do as qualifying me for warrior status either. So, using my criteria, I'll tread all over that sucker.
  7. At least you can squeeze out a warhead in an outhouse. Seriously, what is the deal with everyone being a warrior...like someone else said, I have a hard time seeing most of the AF as "Warriors", myself included.
  8. In general Hefes...two of my favorites: Erdinger and Franziskaner
  9. Having spent 6 years as a MX O and 4+ years now on the ops side, I've learned that Ops has very little idea what goes on on the MX side (mainly talking from the crew dawg perspective). By the way, I started life working Flight line MX in an Ops SQ. MX Os run the MX show there. I will definitely agree that there are plenty of shit bag MX Os that never leave the office and spend most of their time doing CGOC and trying to look good (many of whom were prior E MX), but there are plenty that are shit hot and bust their ass to look out for their troops. Not to blow my own horn (sts...wish I could), but if you had seen me on the line, you would have probably thought I was a troop because I had my shirt off working a speed handle or wrench as much as possible. That’s the only way to lead. At the time, I felt it was my job to protect my troops from ops who just wanted to use and abuse them. Now I see it a lot differently, but I understand why I felt that way and why the folks still out there do as well. What's the point of all this? I guess to educate some of you. Relevance to the thread? This douche could definitely benefit from seeing what REAL MX Os and REAL flyers do...and then see who the lazy one is.
  10. Wow...just wow. Can I have the Douche Monkey's e-mail address...he's due a little "mentorship". I submit to you that if we have people with time for CGOC at a deployed location, then we have too many people deployed. edit: to add a few thoughts
  11. Techno Viking!
  12. I like both. My statement was predicated on the fact that all you posted was a white box (sts) with a read "x" in it. Kudos for the link.
  13. How come I get "invalid parameters" on the Youtube box when I hit play?
  14. Great vid, except for the sausage to taco ratio was a bit off...
  15. I used the more aggressive term "doo doo"... I said we needed to have actual crew members up in the cockpit doing actual crew duties like scanning for threats, and we weren't there for their entertainment. Bunch of pompous cocklick douches...
  16. Carried them from Bagram to Manas last year. Two of them practically demanded to sit in the cockpit for a take-off and/or landing. I essentially told them to eat sh!t without swearing.
  17. Thread Jack. Exactly my thought...mine's starting to wear thin...wore it with pride last week at a hotel in Bad Durkeim, GE (20 min west of Mannheim)...got a lot of interesting looks, but that could be because we were the only drunk american aircrew raging in their little town...we drank for 12 hrs straight and ended the night with a new copilot convinced there were vampires coming for us in exactly 20 min...quote of the evening "I can tell by the looks on your face that you, you and you are not with me, so I'll see you in hell"
  18. Thanks for having the cajones to do the right thing.

    Magic Jack

Sorry for the threadjack, but out of curiosity, how is access to morale phones/computers at Balad? What about wifi?
  20. I think you're confusing AOC with USAFA academic instructor. The instructors (who teach in one of the usual college disciplines...math, physics, chem, history, etc...) get sent to get their masters to make them better teachers...I don't think AOCs get the same deal because it's not relevant to their job... Might be wrong, though. But, yes if we made the position more attractive, we'd get better people in it.
  21. YGBSM. Rooming with someone you're not crewed-up with was the norm more the the exception during my last deployment to OKAS...my impression, inconvieniant, but no big deal. I definatley wouldn't call it a nightmare. I'm not saying this guy isn't a DB, though.
  22. Really, an E-4? That's reassuring. That's why the "we're all airmen" concept is retarded... Anyway, thanks for the info, sounds like the retardedness will only increase as the General's lackeys run amok and use up all the better real estate/resources. Fvck my life...
  23. Found out recently that I'm CAOC bound, just wanted to see if I could get the latest on accomodations (or what to expect by Late Summer early Fall), and any other points of interest. If the answers don't belong on here, PM me and we can discuss via .mil if need be. I'm mainly interested in what's happening with the WiFi situation, any suggestions on what to bring with me that's Deid specific, if I can expect to be in the dorms or not etc...
  24. Anyone care to elaborate on the clownishness?
  25. There are many problems with it, but one big one is that it's not our job. If you send the military to take care of a problem, expect the problem to be solved in a military manner. The only rights they should get from us are their last rights.
