Whoa, whoa, whoa...no need to involve paperwork in this process. Run every day. When you think about stopping, don't. You'll pass. Consider growing some thicker skin.

Not that this comes up much (or at all) in the -17, but I thought rate of onset WAS significant.

Amen Brother, that's what scares me. In the mil I've flown the: T-6, T-1, and C-17... I do some GA flying, but I don't know how much that helps...

Had 160 hrs of GA time when I started UPT...knowing what I know now, some of those CFIs I flew with were scary. I'll take a mil IP any day.

What were you doing on September 11, 2001?

I was a "sortie generation OIC" in the 20th at KBAD. Anybody who was there knows the mad scramble to get the stuff back under ground. I was working nights on the exercise, was on my way home after hitting the gym and heard something about a "light aircraft" hitting one of the towers. I remember thinking: "just like Buddy Holly" and "dumbass GA pilot", until I got home and saw the footage... Also broke up with my girlfriend at the time...best thing to come out of the whole deal...psycho bitch.... -
I was a 2Lt, 1Lt and Capt as a non-flyer. 2Lts didn't salute 1Lts, nor did they call them "sir" in any of the MX organizations I was in. My wife, an LRO, and I dare say a good bit more ate-up than I am (sts) says the same goes in here career field. My brother's in Security Forces, easily the most ate-up careerfields in the AF where customs and courtesies are concerned, and excpet for one DB he worked with, the same is true in his career field. I paraphrased. I'm sorry, but not everyone in the military can be a DB. Strangely, I find that many non-DB officers manage to serve well AND contribute a lot to the force.

BACK when I was a 1Lt , I felt that the tradition was LTs didn't salute each other. We've all heard it, rank among LTs is like... I wonder what you're background is that you developed this opinion. I think you're talking in terms of the LETTER of the law, not the TRADITION that has been in place over at least the last 50 years. (yes I know that Back when you were a 1Lt was longer ago than it was for me, but it was long enough in my case) Yeah, funny, I'm the USAFA grad. Not exactly a liberal school. I hear what you're saying to a certain extent, I do think the erosion of customs and courtesies is somewhat tragic, but I was always taught, even by my hard assed retired Army Maj Vietnam vet Dad, that rank among LTs is like the proverbial prostitute virtue... Yes (sigh). I understand that the POINT of a military salute is to express a greeting of respect. REQUIRED, by the way, in the case of a MOH winner. And, yes (sigh) I've heard of Levitow. I've even heard of all the OTHER AF MOH winners from Vietnam that you hardly ever seem to hear about. But that's not really relevant to the discussion. I've even saluted enlisted folks that did not hold the medal, and meant it. Under some circumstances I would have saluted a 1Lt even, but not as a rule. At this point in my life, I salute Majs who I know to have just pinned on even though I know I'm only a few months from pinning myself. I even call some of them "Sir" depending on the circumstances. I think they call it judgment. A rare commodity in this day and age, but a quality I'm pretty sure an officer is paid to exercise.

Exactly what I was thinking...whatever you do, don't stall the airplane...the rest is pretty situational... Good-on-ya for thinking about it before hand.

It’s kind of a small thing, but speaking of flair, I remember when he decided that only subdued rank would be worn with BDUs. The best part was I was in an AFSOC unit, and therefore technically not under USAFE... our commander (Pave Low driver & great guy) was smart enough to realize this and decided that everyone in the SOG would still wear "shiny" rank. This pleased me to no end because I was wearing my Dad's Capt Bars and didn't want to get rid of them. This all came to a head (for me) when I had a blowout on the A-11 near Mildenhall and an MSgt stopped to help me. What was the first thing out of his mouth? Not: "hey, what's wrong with your car". No, he said: "hey sir, you know you're supposed to be wearing subdued rank?". It was a pleasure to say "Nope, I'm in the SOG, we don't belong to USAFE". That shut his ass up.

True heros deserving of the thanks of a grateful nation. Good book, and I can recommend a few more like it if anyone's interested.

Whats the funniest thing you've heard over the radio?

BTDT: "RRRReach (rolled R) why you not call Pinax 10 min prior...always call pinax 10 min prior...tell your friends, call pinax 10 min prior" We had our revenge...we called and he responded...then at pinax he chews us out again for not calling piror to pinax so we say: "check your tapes" ...silence, then he says "Reach, I'm sorry, you are right" apparently he checked his tapes... -

So you reckon this dipshit has anything to do with the crackdown? I know he had a "heart to heart" with the Es...and has a hard on for aircrew...I'm sure he would get a giant boner from dictating to Os...

Only in my mind...

I just got back from leave, started in a new job at the wing and apparently didn't get the memo, but it became clear when my SQ/CC peeled my subdued airplane silhouette patch off my arm and placed it on the SOC desk, that it apparently is not acceptable. Bit of a disturbing trend lately...

Good question. One of the dudes on here made some and set up a link where we could buy them. I can't remember who sold them, where to find the link, or if they're still available. Anybody know any of the answers? I'm betting if you do a search, you can find it...google might yield results too.

Uber Thread Revival! By the way, I had a tough time finding the original as there were like 30 references to it in other threads… Anyway, I had to tell this story. I was coming back from leave last week and picked up a connection from Sacramento to SEATAC on an Alaskan Air Flight. My wife was TDY, so I was traveling alone and therefore was proudly sporting my much coveted Defensive Egg T-shirt. It’s hard to explain to people without sounding like a geek, by the way…I usually say: “it’s an inside joke from this internet blog” See what I mean? Anyway, when I stepped on the jet, the stewardess (she was a cutie by the way) gave me a weird look and started reading my shirt out loud. Then she looked up with the same look on her face and the conversation went like this: Me: "it's a fighter pilot thing, but I'm actually a cargo pilot..." Her: (cutting me off) "oh, I know all about it..." Me: (a little surprised) "oh, you know about the defensive egg?!" Her: "yes, my grandfather was an instructor pilot in biplanes, and my father was a fighter pilot and cousins...blah blah (I start to zone out looking at her boobs...kind of missed some of what she said)" Me: "Wow, so you know all about it then, there aren't many people that have heard of the defensive egg!" Her: "Yeah, most of my family is in aviation" Me: "Yeah that's pretty cool...blah blah and so on (still looking at boobs)" The conversation went on like that for a while, and then I headed to my seat. Anyway, if I were single, I would have hit it. So, moral of the story is, wear your defensive egg t-shirt and you might get the opportunity to hook up with a hot stewardess.

Two Stories: One of my classmates at Laughlin apparently had a stuck mic on one of his solos and was doing one hell of a Darth Vader impression...when the mic finally got un-stuck all you heard was: "Honcho Copies Heavy Breathing" Me to a female Gander controller with a nice voice as we started our second ocean crossing in 3 days: "Reach 069 switching 1xx.xx, Have a Luscious Day!" -

Am I missing something, or is it only wide enough for a single row of pallets? Hmmm...inbetween a 130 and 17 in size...single row of pallets....T-tail...is anyone else thinking 141 with props?

How recent? I went in Jan. Where are you flying 17s at?

That's a pretty weak argument. The fact that you're drunk excuses sexual harassment/assault?! Oh, that's right, it's the good old "I was drunk" defense. "Yeah, I slaughtered a family of 4, but hey drunk people do stupid things." There is a line between harmless drunken buffoonery and a crime. Feeling chicks up isn't right, and he found out his actions came with consequences...it probably should have happened in the courts, but there you go...
