  1. I kind of figured that being able to generate some good SA is a prerequisite to getting a pointy jet(correct me if I'm wrong)... I can't say for sure that when the time comes I'll have it, but figured if I didn't I could kiss my fighter aspirations good by. No SA problems in the old PA-22, but obviously there's really no comparison there. To clarify my question, if you get some down grades in some areas, or even hook a ride and clean it up here and there...but eventually get the job done and are a pretty good stick right out of the box is it likely, possible, unlikely that you would get a fighter...or is that just not enough information. I know it's a lot of what-ifs...if you can't answer the question, I understand. [ 13. June 2005, 08:27: Message edited by: zrooster99 ]
  2. Instrument stuff would be one example...I'm not saying you just don't get it, but you had to work for it more than others maybe... I am speaking truly hypothetically, I haven't personally had a problem with the limited Instrument stuff I've done... not having been there yet, that's the only example I can think of right now...
  3. I've always heard that there are very few good sticks out there, but lets say you are a good stick (not that I'm saying I am, just curious), have a good attitude, but struggle in other areas...has anyone seen that? Would a person like that tend to end up in one track or another, or is it a wash?
  4. Yep, double ear protection is prescribed by AFOSH standards any time you fire up a power unit, air cart, or any other noisy equipment (like the jet on an engine run)...it's also required in backshops like Fab shop where they're always running drills, grinders and bucking rivits...
  5. It's all relative. To you I'm young at 29, to me my class mates are young at 22-23...
  6. Wasn't lame to me, that's what I've been fighting for-for 6-10 years (depending on how you count it). Granted, I haven't even started phase I yet...
  7. I knew that guy, didn't know he was flying vipers (haven't heard from him since grad)...the funny thing was the car he won was the same make and model as the car that he already owned...
  8. Or Spike, oh you already said that...Right you are Ken
  9. I never thought I'd say it, but me too. I was at RAF Mildenhall. The aeroclub at Lakenheath closed (I did fly with the last manager they had up in Norwich). I rented out of Cambridge (where I happened to live). The biggest thrill for me was when I flew into Duxford...there was a Huricane cranking up just as I taxied in too. I heard about the place you're talking about, but never made it there...hence why I need to get back there!
  10. I applied to my first AD board with 20/200 vision and no waiver...I didn't get it that time but eventually did. The point is, like Greasy said, if you don't try, you won't know...
  11. I'm glad you revived the thread! There was a lot of interesting poop on there for a history geek and warbird nut like myself (even thought it was off topic). When I was over there, I used to ride my Harley all over east anglia looking for old USAAC/USAAF bases. :D
  12. Note: That was a clever office space reference...unless you already knew that, in which case cary on :D
  13. I used a credit card for my PPL...something to consider...if you can get a low% loan though that would be better...whatever gives you the best APR...(as long as you have the disciplin not to use the CC for anything else).
  14. Yes, I believe you are correct about HVAC...we call it environmental systems on AF Aircraft or Electro Environmental technicians (combined two career fields which is populer these days in maintenance).
  15. LMAO
  16. Not entirely true, most of us non-flyers understand there's good and bad just like everywhere else (speaking as a former MX guy). Yeah, we have our jokes like "remove and replace stick actuator" etc... but for the most part as a non-flyer support type you ID the @ssholes and try to avoid them... Also, no it's not offensive to call a non-flyer nonrated (though it only applies to officers really).
  17. Wonder why they didn't just put a helmet mounted cam on em...
  18. Looks like they did away with the gay marine style "tri corner" hat or whatever you call it...one good thing, if so.
  19. You're entitled to your opinion...personally I say: "searching" if I don't see them or "CALLSIGN has traffic in sight" if I do, but the point is those calls were created for all pilots to save time on the radio. Up to you if you use them, but if it works for someone else, don't knock it. [ 23. May 2005, 11:11: Message edited by: zrooster99 ]
  20. Really? What are they supposed to say: "OK I'll do what you said to" (WILCO = Will Comply) "I see the airplane you're talking about" (tally) "I don't see the airplane you're talking about" (no joy). Just curious cause I grew up flying GA and as far as I can tell those phrases were created to help quicken/shorten up your radio calls which is important no matter what you fly. JMO
  21. I got an AETC/SG waiver after a Brooks DQ, but Brooks raised hell and they rescinded it. Like Rage said MAJCOM is usually less conservative than Brooks. The question is, what's the harm in trying? I can't see any.
  22. I'm from the academy...I was there 6 years ago...the point is don't assume all the older folks in UPT are OTS grads.
  23. I volunteer. I can be very motivational.
  24. I'll turn 29 a month after starting...join the club...
  25. At least I was half (assed) right. Knew it was 3 years because I actually had to renew once... Can't wait 'til I get to that point...I'm so tired of fuqing with Brooks
