  1. Close 'em down. You can hold official events at other venues. For that matter, get rid of all the AF bands too.
  2. Tell you what...it's better than nothing. Does it solve all the big problems? That's a big fat no. But it shows to me that some senior leadership, at least, is not completely tone deaf and out of touch.
  3. Poor substitute for real leadership...
  4. I submit that you do not know what the fuck you are talking about (fuck added for flavor/emphasis).
  5. That's part of leadership... Roll calls don't have to be a queep distro session. It's an (additional) opportunity for a leader to interact face-to-face with his people...if he's smart, the communication goes both directions. Once a week and/or once a month doesn't fucking cut it though. Friiquency depends on the character of the organiziation, but can be a (brief) daily affair in some organizations. Bottom line at the bottom (BLAB), it's one tool that can be used...but not in the way protrayed in that stupid fucking video.
  6. Shack, but I'll go further. I wasn't defending the naming convention. The "Combat Platipus" was meant as a joke just like "Combat Wombat" was. Apparently some people have some personal issues...there was one hell of an overreaction to this shit... The real U-28 nickname is "Combat TBD"...if it's not replaced first.
  7. LOL! Wow...
  8. There's no such thing as a full bird SQ/CC, to my knowledge, and I'm not sure what you mean by "non-regulation" sunglasses, but since per 11-202v3 the only authorized sunglasses are the Avaitor style ones, 95% of the AF flying community wear non-regulation sunglasses. I bet they didn't call an O6 by his first name, either. Closest I've seen is using callsigns, and not in a heavy squadron. It's a play off "Combat Wombat" (could be a play off Combat Talon) which is a play off "Combat Spear" which is what the now AC-130W was going to be called originally. You, at one time, had Combat Shadows, Combat Talons, and Combat Spears, so it would have fit the AFSOC naming convention...sort of. If you don't know what you're talking about, maybe you don't be sarcastic...
  9. 2. Spent the better part of the last year working on how to generate the birds and get them overseas as quickly as possible. Having them forward simplifies the process enmorously. More call, I would submit, as we return to a ~peacetime footing for a quick SOF air response to contingencies than other MDSs.
  10. Not sure that DSLs trump BOTs...
  11. Departed the DC area this morning with plans to make it back to Navarre in two days instead of 3. I started off the day learning how much trouble you can get into on a bike at 30mph. There are those who have and those who will...today, I changed categories. Luckily I got away with a sore hip and shoulder and some minor bike repairs including some duct tape to put the left front turn signal indicator back on...then spent most of the rest of the day in rain and traffic jams... Manged to make it half way, though. Looking forward to dry conditions tomorrow. It's been a great ride so far...day 4 was spent with a bunch of MACVSOG types (mostly SF). Riding to the VN memorial for a wreath laying. M2, as a kraut by descent, I'm very jealous of your ride through the "homeland". All the times I hit the continent, I took the vette...worth it, but a bike trip would have been nice.
  12. Yeah! THAT'S an epic trip. Billy, didn't get the Sportster over to the mainland, but rode all over East Anglia and Wales. It's been a faithful friend...no major problems. It leaks just enough oil through the valve cover gaskets to make things messy...has for the last 8 years...somewhat low on power (55 bhp) and you "feel" the engine through its solid mounts, but I've had a lot of fun with the bike.
  13. Some pretty impressive splats so far, but no junbug strikes!
  14. So, just wrapped up day two of a semi epic 7 day ride from FL to DC and back. Riding a fairly stock '02 883...forward controls, no windscreen. Just wanted to see if anyone else had an epic cross-country ride story they wanted to share that's not already on this thread (obviously I'm not a regular visitor to this thread). Prior to this, my longest ride was in the UK...Cambridge-Oxford-Birmingham-Cambridge...shorter ride, more rain, same bike... Edit: structure
  15. Yeah, those commercials make want to shake a baby...
  16. Curious (Got a bro that was passed over)... Any thoughts on when the APZ is going to be for '04s if the '05 board is pushed back?
  17. Glad you did too.
  18. If by advantage, you mean a greater likelihood that you will recieve a pilot slot, it is as high as folks think it is. In my class (over 13 years ago, mind you) 100% of those phisically qualified got a slot. I'm sure the numbers vary over the years, but even if they dropped by 20%, it's still pretty good odds.
  19. S H A C K
  20. = Funky Cold Madina
  21. Why do you care? SIBs out...SIB is for air crew.
  22. So, it says he's carrying a training rifle...sounds like an inert/dummy gun...also says two "clips" but doesn't say if they were loaded. Also, if possesing military equipment is now illegal...
