10% story time. Had a buddy tell me in his prior mds (Fred) he'd lean into the microphone post and utter "....can't believe they're making us do this......set power....*spool background noise*" before every takeoff 😄 . Personally in the 60 year old rickety rocket, I've always found that dynamic to be rather stipulated, so I don't externalize the dialogue lol.

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
hindsight2020 replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
Don't worry buddy, I'll always get you that glove save MPA so you don't have to lie to your wife about the airlines not loving you back....again. But you'll have to ask me nicely. -
Say wut? LOL You're conflating subjects AND missing the macro point simultaneously. Ever heard of the Guard/Reserves? The AF flight lines are not all staffed by Zoomies , not in the least. More on that later. So let's detangle the conflated, by addressing the two distinct issues at hand: 1)Airlines attract civilian applicants who are willing to indebt themselves to that level based on the expectation of upper middle class incomes in early working age without the need to compete in white collar professional schools (civilian airliner piloting is grey collar work). If that expectation didn't exist, people wouldn't do it (aka if regional airline pay hell was the top end to that career choice). Period. Military applicants got d$ck to do with that. Go bark at the airlines, and spare us the socioeconomic shaming of those of us who worked our entire formative years trying to elbow our way into the AF pilot corps, which implies the AF commissioned officer corps by proxy. 2) The question about degrees wrt military pilots is not germane to your gripe about civilian costs. Whether you like it or not, the military has the outright accessions-discriminatory luxury of not relying on a degree-less warrant officer or enlisted corps, to staff their multi-million dollar turbofan/jets. Which means, they can have us elbow each other for a spot at AF UPT, by hook or by crook. That means college degrees, pink tutus and anything else in between, are going to be just another discriminator to get to a coveted UPT slot, good bad or indifferent. Your foot-stomping about degrees not being skillset-germane to aircraft flying is frankly banal and long ago stipulated. You're arguing about the world of what things should be, and not the world of what things are. BL, It's not about privilege-shaming military pilots for having played the game to gain access to military pilot training in order to cajole an expedited entry point to an airline career. A hypothetical itself which btw, is a hell of a presumption on your part, as there's a good chunk of us who never got into military flying for the sake of becoming airline pilots, nor who have a burning desire to leave the flying we enjoy in the military to go watch paint dry to the right of an FMS box on AT. Nevermind the many more who never touch an airliner in post mil life. Don't let BODN be your only barometer on what mil pilots want to do in civilian life. This place has long been established as a airline/guard-reserve transition/ sports kvetching echo chamber. Finally, you're also missing the mark by insinuating that everybody flying for the AF got their degree costs floated by a Service Academy or a ROTC scholarship. Seriously, wtf. Hate the game, not the playa. <--That would probably net you more ideological allies around here on your quest to put "poor/enlisted kids" on the decks of US airliners, than whatever class grievance you're peddling.

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
hindsight2020 replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, given how people in my prior community would dodge the IP stink like their life depended on it (mostly out of a desire to retain the ability get out of the MWS with AFPC, for duty station dearth reasons), I don't see how it would be in the staffing's interest to open a door and allow folks to legally opt out of an upgrade via ADSC declination. Much better to use them and lose them in situ for whatever balance of time they already have, especially given said management class is on the record stating that retention doesn't matter to them anyways. But, these bonehead careerists never look past their own command/staff tour, so it wouldn't surprise me if they bungled that too just like they bungled the FY21 short call. -
Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
hindsight2020 replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
It's not lack of awareness, it's straight up (however sclerotic) game theory application. They have a reductionist view of airline hiring cycles since oh say, the end of the vietnam war (and definitively post deregulation). They will always short-call airline hiring predictions. That's why things like the FY21 AvB offerings are allowed to manifest in spite of real world a-word hiring intel they are privy to, especially in the age of the internet. I forget I'm one of the old crusty guys on here now, so I catch myself repeating the spiel, but I'll do it anyways: They'll always play run-the-clock offense, even when they're behind. It's not a bug to them, it's a feature. This is because even though in a game with no ADSC such decisions would get them sacked out of office, that's not the game we're playing here. You AD critters should know that better than anyone. At the pilot occupational level, they staff and manage this place like a regional airline. So, treat your ADSC contract like you work for the best paid regional airline, and a lot of this lamenting is self-limiting. If you pursue an extension of your one-sided contract, do so with eyes wide open. And to be clear, there are reasons why it's ok to be a "regional lifer" (ask me how I know). No right or wrong answer, only the right or wrong answer for each individual and /or dependent family. Happy New Year. -
The albatross complex 😄

...and a 2.7% pay increase for FY22. And that's how you do a paycut, yee yee! ..and retired critters getting that 5.9% in the same time period.

Guard RC-26 to Fighters (hypothetical)
hindsight2020 replied to ecc97's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Nah, it's got d.ck to do with age. Privately they don't believe in any of this sh!t either. They know all it takes to meet stated FY production goals is to re-open and staff a single additional former UPT base, and we're doneski here. But they also know that's not in the cards for the SECAF. So as conniving but ultimately rational actors, they play dumb regurgitating that "psychology of learning" disingenuous sophistry at the expense of the perennially revolving door of "f-- ck it I'm going to the airlines" burnt out rank and file instructor cadre, who they consider expendable and uncommitted for holding said sentiments in the first place. All the while retaining access for their post-retirement NoVA consultant six fig grift. Nothing new under the sun. The problem with the GO in question is he exhibits a penchant for grudge holding and narcissism above and beyond that of the average GO. The enterprise is certainly worse off for it. But this too shall pass. Yes, some kids are getting burned as casualties of the experiment. But everybody who signed on the dotted line knew they were in for a f$cking at some point or another. Not condoning it, just reiterating the 3 axioms of military life. -

111 Attack Wing/CC civilian accident
hindsight2020 replied to lloyd christmas's topic in General Discussion
The article lists the accident aircraft as a PA-28R-300. That is a niche low-volume one-off export-licensed military trainer called the Pillán. (PA-32 fuselage based, tandem seating trainer, much in the same way as the T-34 was based on the BE-33/35 Bonanza airframe). So likely a typo. They probably meant PA-32R-300, aka Piper Lance. Retract version of the cherokee Six. Condolences to the family. -
yeah buddy. It's a shame single pilot jobs don't pay squat. "I rather have the extra gas" *slam click* 😄
-
Indeed, and frankly it's not a particularly complicated case to make, in spite of how quickly people dismiss it just because it bends too "cynical" for their purity-test-centering sensitivities to grapple with. I won't repeat myself on that account, for the sake of brevity.

Update on the the Scheller self-immolation. His allocutions pretty much cover the fly-bys.
-
Well, if they don't get a handle on their rollin' coal membership online, they're gonna get 2017 Spirit'd right between the uprights faster than they can spell RLA. The self-immolating over on APC is priceless. So far SWAPA has had to publicly deny their inference more times than Peter denied Jesús, and it's only Monday. Best laid schemes of mice and men.... 🤣

Fwiw, AFRC AvB is paid out on anniversary dates (arrears). Cant speak for the active duty, though i can say fiscal 21 offering on active duty was laughable, especially compared to the terms on the AFRC side.
-
Its not so much about the money from where i see it. The point of a rehire as an airline newb isnt on the pay offset on the military side; it's in the value of cajoling your junior airline schedule via mildrop, something a full stop mil retiree no longer has available. Anecdotally at least on my corner of AFRC, the process to onboard a retire-rehire applicant was running in excess of 18 months. For most doing it for the mil drop cape, that timeline makes it a moot point as long as their airline is hiring people below them. For folks stuck during a period of stopped musical chairs at the airline, it might be worth the wait i suppose. Most of the guys in the position of getting an active retirement in my squadron are just moving on at 20, citing the pita of current timeline and requirements to onboard thru the program as not really worth it to them, plus they all have 5 year seniority numbers anyways so the schedule flexing at the airline isnt an issue anymore. Cant speak for how much of a dumspter fire your unit of interest may or may not be wrt CSS backshop and their batting avg wrt hiring qweep.

Warden ain't getting ya parole on piddly 1mil smooth. This guy reminds me of Fresh Fish from Shawshank, fancying himself special.... We know buddy, we know... 😄

Most underrated comment so far. You've said a mouthful my friend. I think they're still taking out the Social security freeze from my LES from the last bait and switch during POTUS 45. You know it's a f**kjob when the govt forbids you from NOT taking the extra cash. LOL

yeah don't get me started on our healthcare system (red button topic in my household). To wit, the inability to retain capacity surplus in this Country due to that abhorrent just-in-time supply model applied to for-profit healthcare delivery, is one of our epic national embarrassments (military adventurism is the other one, but I digress on that). My RN wife has healthcare friends all over the region and out of state, and the anecdotes on the group chat are appalling. Even in our current location, the transfers gridlock kerfuffle is absolutely in your face, and it really underscores the second tier effects to non-covid admittances. But it comes down to the profit motivations. We can't scale surplus capacity to save our lives. Automotive supply chain economics applied to healthcare is not a bug, it's a feature as you point out. That's how you end up with layoffs in the non-covid floors, and an Afghan Defense Force amateur level of inability to address a shortage in staffing/ICU/ECMO capacity. May the odds be forever in our favor. And as to those who believe in the canard that we're NOT having people die in America in triage, wake the f up. We've been doing that for a while. And people still talk about govt death panels like it's some sort of libertarian p@wn? LOL yeak ok, 6 of mine, your half a dozen.....

Post TFI, yes. A lot more common than it should be, but nobody is putting that genie back in the bottle. That ship sailed in 2010. Non TFI Guard units are probably the last remaining bastion of discretion on that front, and those days are numbered too, imo.
