  1. M2 He released information that had *already been cleared for release*. What part of that is so difficult for people to understand? The Air Force said it was OK for this information to be released, and nearly all of what he said had already been printed in the aerospace press - the readers of which are.. er... large and anonymous. If your organisation is part of this debacle and you are continuing to brief that he has behaved irresponsibly, then please take the time to speak to the man himself to establish the full range of facts and context.
  2. Blu I have already PM'd Baseops about this (last week, and again yesterday). Hopefully, he'll take action and remove the offending post.
  3. Not wanting to sound like a pedant (or a dick), but a small handful of B and D model Eagles have carried target pods. Also, when the Eagle was produced the 1st generation of target pods were already well developed. This doesn't change the validity of your post, however, and is just a minor correction.
  4. Interesting. I have been told on my KC-135 flights that bailing out is never going to be an option. I wonder if that's just because they didn't have a spare 'chute for me!?
  5. UH Interesting that the BBC have missed the history between him and the base. I wonder if PA have tried to explain? Regarding the email thing, if he owns the domain www.mildenhall.com, then any email going to that address will go to his 'catch all' email server. Thus, it doesn't matter what you put in front of the @ - if it ends @mildenhall.com instead of @mildenhall.af.mil then he'll receive it. Asking him to disable the catch all facility on his email server is unreasonable given that there are often very valid reasons for having this set-up in the first place.
  6. He's presumably paraphrasing, and it could well be that a dissemination or classification notice was carried within an attached document. I am not suggesting that you are wrong, but I wouldn't discount the veracity of the story so quickly, especially in light of the absence of any denial. Speaking of which, can you expand on this guy's ongoing feud? Interested to know more...
  7. Maybe, UH, but since the Air Force isn't denying it, one can infer that the basic facts are true.
  8. Slightly worrying... from the BBC. So, it's his fault, then?
  9. Those would be what we call 'the crown jewels'. Too late.
  10. The design phase was certainly secret, but the flying developmental phase and subsequent contractor and customer test and eval was not. If they had crashed any then we certainly would have known about it. In this respect, the B-2 is completely different to the F-117.
  11. SAF/PA press release. Hope the two dudes are OK.
  12. Toro Interesting post and some great insight, but I don't agree with you on this one remark. The Navy was opening a national event that is now world-famous (the BBC even televised it live, and hardly anyone here even knows how to play American Football) and reaches an audience far in excess of those sitting in the actual stadium. Closing the roof meant that, what? some 60,000 people didn't see them? But going ahead with the flyby regardless meant that another 100,000,000 did. Putting that into 'sensible reporting terms', that means the Navy expended 0.00036 cents per viewer. Nowhere else are they going to get such cheap advertising to such a captive audience.
  13. I think that it is a commendable tradition. Provided that it does not interfere with operations or operational capability, then military fly overs are worth their weight in gold as far as publicity is concerned. The Super Bowl flyover is a great example: $64,000 for 4 seconds air time is a steal when you consider other advertisers were paying c.$86,000 per second. Having a military that retains the focus of the public eye and has a good relationship with the Average Joe is a valuable thing.
  14. Jacko Welcome to Baseops.net. Here's one of a series of shots that the AF released not so long ago - this is the only one I can find, as it appears they have pulled the others, but at least it shows the LCD and a couple of crew stations. If you search these forums, you may find more information. ISTR Scooter talking a while back about the layout of the crew stations in reference to the toilet... it might help MB update the schematic.
  15. Interesting that they are not going to try it with a modded PAC3.
  16. So, he isn't worried about it completely undermining the purpose of the military as a single, unified fighting force? He didn't simply state that there is no place in the military for gang culture? If he really did say 'because we don't want bad press', then it sounds like he's part of the problem.
  17. I thought that this particular bit of hate mail was the best (added emphasis mine):
  18. Agreed. I almost cried with laughter reading his hate mail. Brilliant site. And for the record Bendy, I am not lazy!
  19. So, in American Idle Idol, you get a precis of someone's job before they show you the audition tape? Seems pointless to tell their life story and then tell them to fook off because they can't sing.
  20. Oh, and this sounds really obvious, but have you talked to other squadron buddies from the time, or tried to find them? Incredible as it may seem, I recently finished a project that researched a programme from the late 1970s and 1980s, and I discovered that a lot of the guys in the unit were still in touch over email - I would have said it highly unlikely, but it turned out to be very true. Once I found one of them, the rest eventually filtered through the ether...
  21. M2 Have you tried speaking to the MPC? I am fairly sure they maintain a data base of retirees. I contacted them a few years ago to find some ODS vets and they sent me a list of addresses, many of which were still valid. I simply provided them with the names, ranks and units they were known to have served in. Some of these guys had also separated in the 1990s, but their contact details had been kept up-to-date (I don't know why). Good luck! Cheers Steve
  22. You don't need to buy an entire report from Intellius, since you presumably don't want any of the legal/paedophile/finance checks. So, simply buy a cheaper 24 hour pass. This will allow you to see current address and previous addresses (the latter of which is very useful for narrowing down the search since you will presumably have some idea of which units/bases he served at), and will also list relatives and all of their information. The Intellius address and phone number is listed as 'confirmed' and 'connected' in the full report if it is up-to-date and current, which is also helpful. DoB is also provided. I was looking for about 30 former USAF/USN guys recently and managed to find about [edit] two thirds of them through Intellius. On occasion I had to resort to phoning some of the relatives listed before I actually found the man himself, but the point is that I got there in the end. I have PM'd you an example report so you can see what you'd be getting. Cheers Steve
