I'm trying to "+1" this more.

You get paid for your technician weekly hours and holidays as you would normally - whatever your normal work schedule is. You're title 10 for points only, no pay during the week. Then, on holidays and weekends you get paid normal military and orders. So, if your tech normal week is 4x10s, you get that civilian pay plus 3 days of military pay. You also get TriCare the whole time. You can only do that for 44-days in a CY, but that's at the rate of 8-hour work days so you have to "prorate" for 4x10s. It it can be a good deal if you work it right. You can still double dip like normal too. Its a paperwork nightmare as your coming on and off (pay and non pay orders) a lot.

You absolutely can double dip with alert tours, or any other military orders for that matter. You must be in some sort of a civilian leave status, however, to get paid for both civilian and a full day of military orders. Same with inactive military training period if it encompasses part of your civilian normally scheduled duty hours What you can't do any more is the famous "three for ones."

If the AD is so interested in taking fighters from the Guard why did they just recently give them Block 50s and 40s? They could have just kept those jets.

Applies so much to UPT. To this day I hear people talk about how much Vance/Enid sucks. I (and most of the guys in my class) had an awesome time and I know that if I had the same class at any of the UPT bases I would say the exact same thing.

www.progspec.com has the BEST UPT bundles. You'll get patches & stickers at a lower price than just patches every where else. Plus you'll get more of everything. Customer service beats all these other jokers.

Talk to your unit about doing some work while you're back home (go make some popcorn) and then they'll just put you on orders for a TDY (as Toro said, this won't be permissive).

As a lot of guys have already said... Once you get into Phase I and get checked out in the UTD you can go over and use those as much as you want. Even with no screen, the T-6 UTDs will give you a far better experience than a PC. You can flip all the switches and get your checklist flows down pat before you even get to the flight line. You'll be able to have all that crap memorized so you'll be able to just get it done instead of having to reference the pocket checklist every freaking step. Then, when you get closer to instruments, you can spend a bunch of time shooting approaches. Even at that, there is nothing cosmic about the T-6 (or T-38). After a few flights you'll be all spun up.

When you show up and get your pubs, you'll get a set of the SQ standards and local guidelines that outlines basically everything you say on the radio, including talking with the RSU. When in doubt, <who you're talking to> <who you are> <what you want> If you already know where you're going to UPT, you could get a copy from one of your bros. A lot of it may not make sense to you, but it's really not all that difficult.

At Vance, we were issued the trainers for both T-6 and T-38. The T-6 ones were small-ish, but the -38 are full poster sized.

1. Everything except furniture. Bookcase, bed & sheets, chairs, and things like that are included in the room. You can choose to have all or none of it removed. 2. Bring your own 3. Yes. A microwave is included in the room, though. 4. No. A bowling alley and the club is all thats on base.
