I've got a Walther P-22 and it is one of my favorite guns to shoot. Never really been a big fan of the .22, but this gun is just fun and affordable. It's even got a tactical rail for a laser/light/whatever else you want. An all around good gun for plinking. You can't go wrong with the XD-45 though!

IFS (Initial Flight Screening) information
AlphaMikeFoxtrot replied to a topic in Pilot Selection Process
BADFNZ is right...this is supposed to be a zero hour course, and esentially it is, the issue is that they pretty much just present you the material not "teach" it. Before you get here if you can go through ground school and possibly get a few hours (especially in a DA-20) that would help for sure. They give you the standard AETC time management/prioritization puzzle here. If it were just general aviation this course would be a piece of cake. The military has stepped in and imposed just enough rules and lingo to make it difficult for most. If you want it bad enough anyone can get through here, hands down, attitude is everything. Oh yeah, class 08-12 65 total students 47 total navs/wsos. There had been only 38 total navs/wsos to date. -
Right...like every bomber crew wanting to score the first NUDET on Moscow...gimme a break...there would be a bit of professionalism involved, and I think the BUFF not to mention other bomber communities have proven they can handle any "extra" that big blue can throw at them!

Targeting Pod only works when airborne...gotta get better before you can dream of big things. But, yeah, the POD helps all!

Two pilots dead in T-38C crash at Columbus AFB

Pretty sure they do a 48 hour, 10 day, 30 day, and then the final. I tried to dig up the 48 hour and there wasn't anything. There are rumors floating around here, but I'll leave them as rumors. -
Rough month!

I totaly agree with M2 on this one. Best thing to think about (besides securing your weapons) is that you don't want bullets to go screaming through your walls and hitting anything besides the perp. That said a shotgun is perfect, as described by M2. There are multiple combinations, I shoot a S&W M&P .40 and run for a Remington 870 shottty. There are some under the bed gun safes that you can use as well. As far as pricing goes, I got my pistol for roughly $520 and the shotgun for $250. And if my the bad guy is still kicking by the time me and my wife get to my gun locker he is fooked, I keep a small arsenal in there! There is no such thing as too many guns!!! Best I can tell you is to contact the local Texas Parks and Wildlife Biologist. He should be in the know for what type of landscaping will work best for the climate. I spent 3 years of my life as a biologist in San Angelo (close to there), but managed 10,000+ acres and never really worried about a yard. If you are in the city or under city water you may/will have to abide by summertime water rationing. It is extremely arid and the water tables are low. You're not quite in the desert but you're damn close, and water is ALWAYS an issue. Digging your own well will not be cheap, but would at the very least give you the opportunity to waste water without answering to "the man." Last, an oil derrick on 1.5 acres will be tight. Especially during the drilling process. Good luck with your yard! Oh yeah, you can try xeriscaping. It's a low water means of landscaping. Probably what the biologist will recommend.

How about "The Great Santini" can't go wrong with Duvall!

I'm guessing that the DA-20 used at Pueblo has the civilian (2 prong) headset connection and not the military (short stubby sts) connection. Anyone care to shed some light?

Smokinrobo, https://www.miltsparks.com/ Milt Sparks has some really nice holsters. I don't own one (yet) but will have one soon. I've got a few bro's here that swear by their Sparks holster. Hopefully I'll be as happy! As far as pistols go, I currently carry a S&W MP 40. It's a great gun, shoots extremely well, but is a bit bulky for concealed carry. Anyone else on here use either the Sparks holster or the MP line of pistols?

I agree that this is absurd. I see it time and time again that someone gets the "good" deal or whatever because they sqaut to pee. They were toying with the idea of an all female BUFF combat crew when I was on Diego a while back. That got nipped in the bud for whatever reason. The majority of the crew was sierra hotel but the Co was a pain in th a$$. Fast forward to 2008 and the Co is now a AC working her fini flight. Guess what she wanted? So they flew it and got ZERO recognition. It was pretty awesome! BFD you did your jobs and you all happened to be female. Still don't know how it slipped through the cracks but I am glad it was a "fini" flight. Totally undependable and DNIF all the time, but she still wanted flight scheds to work wonders for her. Just my .02 Oh yeah here's a balnket "STS" for wherever it needs...

www.govliquidation.com This is the link for what used to be DRMO, it is now susidized or whatever. It's like e-bay for military snazzle. I didn't see any control sticks, but they show up from time to time. Hope this helps!

The Barksdale BX just started selling firearms. I was just curious if any other BX's have started doing this as well? The prices seem fairly reasonable and the tax free is the best part! They've got everything from Glock and HK to Remington.

B Driver... if you consider 7 miles standoff then yeah thats the way we're heading. if you're referencing JASSM, thats just filling a role that is already there (ie CALCM). The wave of the future for the BUFF is SDBs. There's not much standoff capability there... plus some of the other gravity driven winged variants will only take us out to a 30 mile release. When I think standoff I think in the hundreds. Anyway, the point is, Shows of Force and Presence Routes are big right now. I guess its a kinder gentler AF. That said, the BUFF is going lower and lower.
-
Don't worry Nanook, it appears they are trying to bring back the LL mission to the BUFF. It is a slow start at it doing Shows of Force at 5k AGL, but it appears that its working and they like us lower and lower. We'll see what the future holds, especially if they cut the BUFF force by 20 or more a/c. As you probably know LL is tough on the airframe, with less to work with things could get fun.

Thanks for the speedy responses... I knew I could count on this forum for the answer. Now I feel like I need to explain myself. 1) I am currently deployed, so that should explain the no charts/ books readily available 2) I'm a nav on the Buff, and its seldom that we fly low... you ask me about a JNC I could probably tell ya 3) back home we have access to "actual" charts through base ops, but really no need for them Now I would like to say that those who contributed can add this to your OPR... handselected to aid in the identification of dangerous terrain to sustain B-52 operations over the Stan.. or something along those lines. In all seriousness.. thanks guys!

Ok.. I know that I should know this one, but my memory has slipped me and I can't track down the answer anywhere. How is the elevation derived for the min altitudes in each sector on the TPC chart? I know that an actual chart has this posted in the legend, but seeing as how we rely totaly on CFPS I have no actual charts. Any help would be great!

I'll give the Buff selling a go... But first let me answer the FTU question, yes after UPT and survival you will report to the 11th BS at Barksdale to begin your Buff FTU. Deployments right now are 4 months (at a tropical island) and then back home for 10-12. Most of the community is laid back and easy going, there are some who aren't, but no ones perfect. We like to push it up at the O club on Friday nights still. Now on to the aircraft. What other combat oriented aircraft has proven itself with the war record of the buff? Who out there can loiter for eternity waiing for the go call? Who else can carry the diversity of weapons in one sortie? The answer: no one else can! We may not be as pretty or as fast but we come with the thunder and a lot of it. When some smaller faster guys drop and get out we drop and orbit and wait for the next target. When someone needs options, we have them (JDAM, WCMD, JASSM, JSOW, CALCM, ALCM,... and the list goes on). All US aircraft are fantastic, none should be rated better than the other. Everyone is extremely proud of what they do, and they should be. Let me tell you that if you come to the Buff community, you won't break the speed of sound, but you'll be in the shit with everyone else.

JS- you also have to realize that you and your car can be searched at anytime and failure to declare your firearms is looked down upon. The gate guards have never gotten on the red phone with me for declaring my firearm status and my intentions with them. It is probably not a written rule but more of a courtesy to them.

Anyone have any plans or schematics on how to assemble a kegerator from a normal fridge or a mini-fridge. Just got a house on base and I need a project for the garage!!! [ 02. March 2005, 17:11: Message edited by: AlphaMikeFoxtrot ]

Anyone know anything about ALO? Just curious, some have said that it is a career ender of sorts. Just want to know the validity of this and how the actual job is? Cheers AMF [ 28. February 2005, 16:16: Message edited by: AlphaMikeFoxtrot ]

Combat Systems Officer (CSO) info; Nav, EWO, WSO
AlphaMikeFoxtrot replied to a topic in Combat Systems Officer (CSO)
The Pensacola (ie. WSO) route is determined through your commissioning source. At OTS you compete with other NAVs in PFT, academic, and flight commander rating. I'm sure that ROTC and the Academy are similar in structure. For CSO, once at Randolph everyone will begin with the same syllabus, then you will either track EWO or CSO depending on class standing. The best that I can see the new CSO program provides the panel NAV with more of an EWO background and the EWO with more aviation under their belt.
