  1. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  2. That's kind of seeing as they're civilians. The rent-a-cops here at Nellis all wear their rent-a-cop attire. That'd be kind of wierd having rent-a-cops in BDU's.
  3. The fact of the matter is that you will find dickheads out of any of the commissioning sources, period dot. This is something I learned at ASBC. Just because a dude wears an Academy ring does not mean he's a dickhead necessarily. When I in-processed at Nellis a wise Lt Col (Academy grad) told us that wearing an Academy ring doesn't not make you a better officer. I've met a ton of cool Academy dudes (I did 4 years of ROTC myself) and work for a former zoomie that is pretty damn cool. It's very very to hear people say "I did this and that when I was in the Academy, ROTC, or OTS"... noone gives a flying **** once you're on active duty. So to answer your question of what to say to your roomie? What I'd say is "I partied and got laid for four years, how about you?" or simply "**** off a-hole."
  4. Right now I'm flying the mighty Cessna 172 Skyhawk for IFT...cool things about it? It flies, which is pretty cool. It also has a back seat so other IFT guys can sit in on my flight and make fun of me and vice versa. Ok, so there's not a whole lot special about it, but it's still flying! Cheers! [ 29. 5. Vance in May 06, when is your date?
  6. I agree. However, nothing would satisfy me more than to kick them in the balls. [ 26. July 2005, 21:43: Message edited by: UPTBoundROTCGuy ]
  7. Those same jackasses came to my school sometime soon after 9/11 because a church in the area was inducting a homosexual bishop and they came to protest it. They were holding such signs as "Got Hates Fags" and "Thank God for 9/11" as they dragged American flags around in the mud. I, not so politely, loudly voiced my opinion of them and their organization to one of their upstanding members. I was extremely tempted to punch them right in the face, but there were many law enforcement officers around and I didn't feel like getting arrested. It is my personal opinion that these individuals are acting out of rage stemming from "coming up short". [ 25. July 2005, 21:15: Message edited by: UPTBoundROTCGuy ]
  8. Anyone have any idea as to how much money was spent on the design and development of the new BDU's? Just curious.
  9. Like C17 Driver, I was a finance major myself, so I'll give my $.02. Like it has already been stated, max out your Roth IRA due to the tax bennefits that come along with Roth IRA's. As Spar stated, an emergency fund is a great thing to have. As far as savings go, CD's are a good way to go as they offer higher interest rates than ordinary savings accounts with terms as low as 91 days with a rate of 2.4% through USAA. CD's bennefits include a locked in rate of return which is risk free. On the flipside, you face penalties for early withdrawals. For those that don't know what an ETF (exchange traded fund), these make for a convenient way to diversify risk from your portfolio. An ETF, or index fund, is much like a mutual fund that is traded in the form of a stock which has bennefits of stocks and mutual funds combined, more or less. Examples include SPDRs (tracks the S&P 500, ticker: SPY) and QQQQ (Nasdaq 100). ETF's have a beta of around 1 meaning that they are about as risky as the market as a whole and theoretically produce market returns. Financial analysts last week predicted that the S&P 500 will be on the rise. From last week, the value of SPDRs went from 119.05 to 120.5 at close today. Bottom line is that if you plan to invest in more than just money market funds, bonds, etc, you will be taking on risk. A young lad like myself can take on more risk than someone that plans to retire next month simply because I have alot more time to make it back. I personally am kicking myself in the butt for not buying Google when it opened at around 95 or so when its now at like 288. Those kinds of returns are very risky especially given the industry. Investments to flat out avoid: Futures: to include oil futures and other commodity futures, interest rate futures, and the like. These are extremely risky and a good way to lose money.
  10. Kind of bad to rag on the non-rated types when you haven't reported to your UPT base yet, don't you think?
  11. Edit: Joke removed due to it being taken seriously rather than as a joke. [ 01. June 2005, 23:40: Message edited by: UPTBoundROTCGuy ]
  12. I agree with you on that completely C17wannabe, that is very, very . I hope the SF at the gate didn't give him the honor that he doesnt deserve because he's not a commissioned officer... TheBurt, I was a part-time police officer in Hampton, NH (a scummy beach town) for a year when I was in college and I ran across alot of the same BS. Alot of guys would try to say how they were in such and such a branch and did this and that. When I questioned them about it (asking things I knew), the BS meter would start to go off. This one dude kept claming he was a Marine in Vietnam and was extremely disorderly when I was trying to book him. I ended up charging him with simple assault for kicking me and criminal threatening because he kept mentioning how he would like to shoot me if he had a gun. Note that I was trying to be professional with him and just get him booked and out of there and had nothing to do with him getting arrested. I hate posers. [ 30. 13. I don't think you can really study for the AFOQT that much...some of the sections are like the SAT, but some are just out there. The AFOQT doesn't really even weigh that heaviliy for pilot selection.
