  1. A heavy can experience a compressor stall at high power settings during the beginning of the takeoff roll if crosswinds are strong enough. This is due to the fuselage disturbing the airflow to the downwind engines. Specifically, Boeing 707 type airframes have a recommendation for max crosswind with a static takeoff for this very reason. Above about 30 kias, however, there is no way a crosswind could affect the engines.
  2. From what I've seen of FWQ vs. standard UPT, it's not that much of a difference except for the early nut kicking. That being said, I think it's a good idea to combine them because there's a lot that can be learned from the group setting that can't be self taught.
  3. It is even simpler than that. The subway really only operates in one dimension. Plus, if you put two independant computers on board and they disagree, it's pretty easy to program the train to stop where it is.
  4. Maybe I'll do that on my checkride. "Eng, Pilot, Close and lock the curtain"
  5. Nice. There's a reason that karate dudes don't use plywood.
  6. Seriously? Do schools not teach these words anymore?
  7. ILS backcourses are for precision takeoffs.
  8. That's if we decide to buy all 18000 iPads too. I bet we get 6900 of them at a price of $1300 a piece.
  9. Stupid. This one is much better if you start at 2:15.
  10. So BQZip's mom is okay or not? I'm lost.
  11. WWFSMD? Touch you with his noodly appendage obviously.
  12. I don't think it was a criminal. I do, however, think it is reprehensible and should result in immediate less than honorable discharge.
  13. If you haven't read the Ab Lincoln book, it's pretty good. It's nothing like the Twilight bullshit.
  14. Pilot fell asleep and the FMS just flew the pattern shown on the screen saver.
  15. I'd wear a flashing strobe beanie cover but 36-2903 doesn't tell me exactly how too.
  16. 1) The article says they plan to purchase a minium of 63, maximum of 18,000 iPad (or equivilent). That is a pretty large range. 2) The article states they may purchase an iPad equivilent which to the DoD means SOS style eReader. 3) They make the claim that it will save 70 pounds each flight. Dollars to doughnuts, you are still required to carry the paper copy on board for the next 5 years which just doubles the amount of work required. 4) Either the AF is going to purchase a $6.9B military safe version of iTunes or these tablets will be so locked down that they will be worthless. Did anyone on this board ever use the T-6 pattern simulator called VIPERS (Virtual Interactive Pattern Environment and Radiocomms Simulator) that they handed out for a while on the over powered Alienware laptops? 5) What happens when the battery dies and I don't have a cigarette lighter in the cockpit to plug it in? Although my jet was but in the 50's, they never installed such an option.
  17. With a last name of Wolfenbarger, what did you expect?
  18. I don't need Air Force PT gear to be large, slow and non-maneuverable at the gym. I handle that just fine on my own.
  19. It's a true major. One that sets you up to be a middle school gym teacher at best.
  20. There should be some de-rated pilots.
  21. My answer was pretty simple, "Sure, if she's being a bitch."
