Here I fixed that for you... -
I'm not a flight doc so I'm not a final authority on this, but I have differing vision between my eyes and went through the FC1 process so I'll share what I experienced. There's a great deal more to the evaluation process than just looking at the 20/x measurement of visual acuity. While you have to fall within certain limits, they have latitude to waiver less than 20/20 vision as long as it's easily correctable to 20/20 with glasses. For people with differing vision, they also evaluate how great the difference in diopters between the eyes is. Depth perception is also thoroughly tested, some people with differing vision have difficulty with the tests with significantly different eyes if their brain is subconsciously relying on the better of the eyes. Don't want to sound too doom and gloom, if you're correctable to 20/20 in both eyes without any other issues you stand a good chance. I personally had around 20/100 vision in my "bad" eye and was able to get a waiver for it without any major issues.

Does anyone have any advice on whether three sets of ABUs are really necessary? I'm reluctant to drop the coin on three complete sets I assume I'll wear very little once I hit UPT. Any current advice on stuff to bring not on the packing list. Definitely bringing the Golf clubs, any other suggestions or gouge?

I'm newly commissioned Lieutenant that had my FC1 accomplished at a local AFB instead of doing the typical Brooks IFC/MFS combo like most ROTC comissionees. What should I expected when I head to Brooks to accomplish the MFS already having a certified FC1? Will there be any repetition of the tests I've already accomplished/additional work ups on any waivers I've been granted or should I be golden if a condition has already been waived?

At least in Outlook, you could always setup the autoreply rule to not respond to a message from your email address on the listserv or any message containing some phrase the rule automatically include in your initial autoresponse to avoid falling into an infinite loop of replying to yourself.

It's important to remember that you aren't going to earn a commission let alone a pilot slot if you can't finish your degree because you ran out of money paying for flying lessons. Many, if not most, of the people I know who received pilot slots through ROTC hadn't done any appreciable work towards earning a PPL beyond a few PDT/CAP orientation flights. Some Detachment commanders might consider the dedication or maturity having one shows when ranking your class but a PPL by itself probably isn't gong to be a magic ticket to UPT. As the many people I've known who've received slots without a PPL shows, it's far more important to have your act together and play the ROTC game while keeping your grades up than spend all your time hanging out at the Airport or working a second job to pay for a PPL. Every Detachment commander views things a little differently so your mileage may vary though... It would have been great to have earned a PPL before applying for an ROTC pilot slot but it just wasn't in the cards financially without significant financial hardship. I'm still waiting for my UPT dates so obviously I can't comment on how much of an advantage having a PPL would be in IFS and UPT but I can at least attest it's possible to get a slot without a PPL.

I saw your story before you edited it out, I think it's a valuable lesson for future cadets on the dangers of becoming overly fixated on "winning" the ROTC game. I'd suggest leaving it up as a warning for those who may come across this post later and hopefully they'll avoid repeating your mistakes.

I was told we had to wear issued boots with BDUs a few years ago, don't know if it's changed with the transition to ABUs. I'm not sure what boots ROTC is issuing now or what type you may have bought on your own, but I wouldn't want to wear anything that made me stand out from the rest of your flight so you might want to reconsider if your boots look significantly different than issued style. That said, you're going to spend a lot of time in those boots at FT so it's essential you take a pair that fits well or you're going to be hating life and slowing your flight down if you tear your feet up with bad fitting boots.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out: AF Times Story

With the latest rumor today being that 800 FY10 ROTC Commissionees are going to be delayed until FY11, anyone have any fresh advice or leads on good jobs for those with an extended wait to EAD?
-
We were at CBM flying in T-37s and did ejection egress training along with the actual flights in BDUs
-
Not necessarily, we did our PDT incentive rides in BDUs a couple years ago.

If you're really desperate you could get someone to plug a slingbox up to their cable system at home in Big 10 Territory and you could watch it streaming over the net

I think this was the link he was intending:

At NATCON, they told us scholarship increases probably wouldn't be retroactive to existing activated scholarships
-
This is probably a win for cadets unless they significantly restructure it. JFTC was the closest I came to enjoying FT since it actually seemed like useful training instead of playing housekeeper making beds and folding clothes doing dorm maintenance in garrison.

I wouldn't want to be the only guy in a flight wearing ABUs, all it's going to do is make you stand out from the rest of the group and earn you extra attention which you don't want. I think the thinner material of BDUs would be a lot better in the AL and MS heat and humidity anyways.

I was picked up for a CSO slot out of ROTC with a PCSM of 77 after taking the TBAS in Sept 08 with 0 flight hours. I've read that a PCSM >90 is desirable for being competitive on the AD selection board so that's my goal but it's going to be quite expensive since I'll need over 200 flight hours to make it there going strictly by flight hours. Retaking the test seems like the better option. Would it make more sense to take the TBAS again while the test is still fresh in my mind or wait until after IFS and whatever skills I'll gain as a CSO?
-
I know this is quite the thread revival, but do IFS hours count towards PCSM for CSOs who later apply for UPT?

There is a difference between Separated and Retired officers, I think letsgofast was asking if an Officer who resigned his commission or separated through some other means before serving 20 years and retiring can give the oath. If I recall correctly, a retired officer still technically holds his commission while an officer who leaves before 20 generally has to resign his commission so I'd be curious if that makes a difference, Any ideas?

What bearing does legal gun ownership have on security clearances?

We had one opportunity on the second Sunday to get a Haircut during Church or ICT but I would recommend getting it cut really short before going to avoid dealing with the hassle of getting a hair cut.

I've been curious about people who fail at Brooks since I'm borderline on vision. If someone shows up to Brooks and gets DQ for pilot, can they swap for a Nav slot assuming they meet the Med standards or are they out of luck?

As long as you're contracted GMC you shouldn't have any trouble opening an account.
