  1. So they have guys with heavy machine guns out the sides, ready to blast missile and spacecraft thieves away?
  2. If you go the 38 route, can you pretty much get a bomber if you know you want one from the get go? It seems to me from the posts on here that bombers aren't the top pick for the majority of 38 guys. My guess would be if you want a bomber, it wouldn't be a prob. I just wanted to ask the question to see if I'm on the right track. Thanks.
  3. Jolly - I agree. MHs or HHs would be the ticket for me if I did the Helo track. I just heard a good chunk of people get Hueys out of Rucker. Everyone on here has given me tons of good info. I'm not even sure what I want after 34s. Right now I'm saying 130s or helos, but that could easily change. I'm just kind of gathering data right now and keeping an open mind. Seeing as how I'm just starting UPT, it'll be about 6 months before choosing time comes anyway. Oh, I can't forget "AF needs" need to be factored into the equation as well.
  4. Are the Eglin and Hurlburt H-1 assignments usually a second tour vs a first tour straight out of UPT?
  5. Thanks heloguy, Good info on Yokota's Hueys too. Didn't know they were mostly DV support. So I know they have Hueys in Minot, F.E. Warren, Malstrom, Fairchild, Yokota and D.C. I heard Vandenberg was going away? Any truth to that? Is there any other H-1 locations I didn't mention here? Thanks again.
  6. dtfl, You're right. It's not for everyone. I've definitely seen that in some people. So let me rephrase, AFSOC is the "greatest, bestest" command I've been in because of what you mentioned. All crewmembers, planes and maintainers push their limits. I had a great time and experience during those years. I did everything I expected plus more. I have memories I'll never forget and some that well.... So your analysis is correct and yes I'm young at 29. BTW, that whole not drinking thing. I remember I was on my way from the desert during hurricane Ivan and I heard some of the SOW guys got in trouble out at Campbell during the evac. I think this might have been when O.G. got the idea for no alcohol during TDYs. I've heard about this like everyone else, but...
  7. To clarify my question with some more detail... Do they fly the space site support missions on nogs (when they have night lines) or is everything lighted with pretty colors for them to land on at the sites? Heloguy, You say it isn't the taxi service most people think it is. Can you elaborate or should I PM you?
  8. For any USAF H-1 pilots out there, do you fly your night sorties on NVGs? I'm not familiar with the AF Huey mission. Maybe someone can elaborate on mission profiles and/or normal training mission scenarios. Thanks.
  9. I had a HNP L4-5 and a bulged disk L-5/S-1. I had no surgery. It was resolved through therapy. I comissioned a month ago and am at Pensacola/Whiting for UPT. I'm actually waiting on the docs here to renew my waiver because it expires next week. They even made get new MRIs a few days ago and everything was kosher. Just a matter of getting everything signed off for another 3 years. That's how you'd get a waiver for HNPs, three years at a time. PM me if you want more details.
  10. Is everyone in the 38 track required to take a trip on the fuge? How about guys who know they want bombers or FAIP assignments? Just curious. Thanks.
  11. AFSOC is the greatest command in the USAF, hands down! I wish there wasn't as much Big Blue influence as I see creeping in, but I'm sure it comes and goes in waves just like everything else. CH is right about the Talon and Pave mafia. It's definitely in full effect. With the Osprey coming in, who knows what will happen (that's a whole different subject). AFSOC doesn't just train to do cool stuff in training and then do something entirely different in combat. What we train to do is what we do in combat. The HCs have been part of ACC for so long that they sometimes have trouble getting rid of ACC habits. Hopefully a few more years will rid them of of the un-AFSOC ways. Don't know much about the 60 community except for everyone who flies them, loves them. From what I've seen, it's good for AFSOC guys to take a few steps back and see how good we really are. I left AFSOC in March and am now in AETC. I really think we have some of the best aviators (officer and enlisted) in the world. Yes, there are exceptions, but that's anywhere you fly. I hope to return to AFSOC as soon as I can. Best people, best missions, and we don't advertise our deployments on the local paper.
  12. Any of you IPs heard of when they will open up the Osprey pipeline for Air Force guys?
  13. I am an E (IL) on MC type herks. Like most, started out on slicks (red tails) out in the Big Country. Those of you who live there know where I'm talking about. I love the mission and will most likely try to return to MCs.
  14. Okay, so Vipers are turning and burning. How about Strike Eagles, Hogs, and Bones?
  15. VS, I have really been thinking about this lately and I realize I would rather fly my whole career (non-fighters) instead of possibly flying fighters for a few years and then reaggravating an old injury and not be able to fly at all. I have already been told that if the disks herniate one more time, I lose my FC1. I'm not too worried about it because I take care of my back, but pulling a high amount of Gs would definitely (in my opinion) do more harm than good. If you say it sucks for people without back problems, then there's no way in heck I'll hack a high-G aircraft for a whole career. Thanks for your thoughts on this issue.
  16. If there are any fighter/attack ACC types out there, I would like to know how often you are pulling Gs and what is the norm during training vs combat. I guess to give you an example of what I'm asking; Would you say you are pulling Gs 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour per flight? Are you pulling 2-4, 4-6, 6-8 Gs on any given flight? I'm sure it is based on your training profile, which varies from day to day. If able, please give me various scenarios based on the different mission sets you train for. The reason I ask is because I am interested in the T-38 track, but I herniated two disks in my lower back 4 years ago. I currently have a FC1 with a waiver due to that injury. I never had surgery, but did the therapy, work outs, and recovered fully. I still do things like any normal person would, but once in a while if I do too much lifting, running, etc.. I will have a sore lower back. I am just wondering if the G loads will aggravate this old injury after some time. Thanks in advance for your answers.
