ACM, TI, DCA, OCA, SCAR, BSA , DT, CAS, AI. I never said it’s not important. But with all the missions that one jet must now support with all the 4th gen technology something has to give. You can learn “feel of the jet” in many missions and BFM is one that is slowly going away. If you fly 9 times a month you can’t dedicate more than 1 sortie every month or two to BFM. BFM is very basic. If you’re going out with that as you’re only mission you’re missing out on way better training. IMO BFM is a backup mission if there is any fallout or wx/airspace backups. Not a primary. The Guard probably doesn’t have the ability to put up 10-12 jets at a time either to replicate larger training and may be forced into basic skill sets more often.
-
BFM in a strike vs a clean Eagle is a different comparison. I’ve flown in both and they fly and fight completely different. It would be like you trying to call a fight in the back of a Viper and the pilot scoffing you. BFM is also a dying art that the older generation won’t let go of. If you have 10 training hours and you’re spending more than an hour of it doing BFM you’re not really contributing to the capabilities that we have nowadays. now if the argument is the Guard can’t afford the manning and extra officers I think that would be a fair point. I don’t know the financials of the guard. I think at that point you need to look at either vipers or 35s. Or something even cheaper if you’re just trying to do coastal defense. Do you need EX capabilities for homeland defense ? Likely not.

We don’t need to do this when we’ve been bombing the enemy for the last 6-9 years. People get one guess which airframe has missed the most. No surprise there. No data points for C model dudes obviously.

It’s great hearing opinions from people who never flown with a WSO what it’s really like. I guess people actually think the Air Force will let one person fly in it when it was designed for two? We will look back at this thread 5 years from now and see who was correct.
-
Can’t wait for all the C model dudes having to fly with a WSO. After a few sorties they’ll realize they can’t do it all and it’ll be fine. But the briefs will be comical the first few months.

Viper crash at Holloman, pilot ejected safely.
Ryder1587 replied to LookieRookie's topic in General Discussion
What does it take for the AF leadership to actually make a change to save lives? 6-9 more crashes in the next 6 weeks again ? All they do is justify all of these cuts by saying technology is taking over when in reality it isn’t. The mission sets we have been doing in the last 10 years have drastically made more complex. Technology makes it harder sometimes to do the mission because there is so much crap going on. And then we cut the hours for the new guys and expect them to keep up. also not sure if that is related to this crash. This is talking in general. -
Anyone have recent experience with the Air Force restructuring and combining the flying squadron with maintenance and getting rid of Groups? Pros? Cons ?

You missed the point. Why couldn’t the statement say “I’m afraid an airman will be shot by a police officer”. Why did he have to throw white vs black into the argument ? Why doesn’t he want to say the cops are 18 times more likely to be killed ? Why aren’t the real issues addressed ? Agreed with previous poster that race is easier to say versus talking about the real issues on what caused a divide. Lastly no one is sticking up for Chauvin. I think we all agree he deserves to face a trial. I think the disagreement is that Floyd was some great law abiding citizen making the world a better place Because he definitely wasn’t. Did he deserve what happened ? Absolutely not.
-
My problem started with the CMSAF’s post. His statements don’t support the data. He said his greatest fear is that a black airman will be killed by a white police officer. Someone posted an article earlier that showed a study from 2015 that shows a white police officer has the same chance of shooting a black man as a Hispanic or black officer. So why make this about race ? Can we improve poverty for the black community ? Absolutely. Are they in poverty because of racism ? A thought that your race is superior to another’s. I don’t think so. Jordan Peterson has a good talk about this and it being majority privilege. Is it something that should be addressed ? I think so. But most people are good and want to make the world a better place. But by blaming other people or races or professions with no real solutions isn’t a solution to me.

Hmm. So now we are allowed to use the uniform for a platform on social issues? I don’t understand a lot of this. I expect more guidance from top leadership. https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2015/04/28/soldier-in-uniform-mistaken-for-protester-army-says/ This example was back in 2015. I don’t see how it’s different versus using an official Facebook Air Force account to speak up over riots and protests. This is an opinion piece on social issues using an official account and the uniform. Are we in Crazy Town now ? anyone have any answers for the crowd on if the UCMJ allows this?

I think a big part to blame is the media and social media. Everyone thinks that their Facebook post is going to change the world and the more likes you get the more right you are. It seems also we have transitioned that the most emotional or loudest person is the most correct. It’s all BS. I am tired of the Us vs Them mentality for literally everything. Why can’t we all just treat each other with respect and dignity? granted, things can always improve. And they always have. I would much rather live today versus 250 years ago. But do we always have to act like the world is ending to make things better ? What is burning down buildings going to do ? Do you think someone with an opposite viewpoint is going to listen to you when after you offend them? People need to relearn how to listen to other viewpoints and respect them even if you disagree. I’m not saying that America doesn’t need to change. It does. But we can do it in a respectful way. Rant over.

Not a good week for aviation. This these crashes it makes me wonder what the AIB was for the rash of crashes last year. Anyone remember them all ? I remember a C model overseas. And maybe a 35 for the Marines ?

Snowbirds jet down around an hour ago it seems. The video is awful to watch , doesn’t look like chutes had time to deploy.

Delta released a memo today stating they will have 7k more pilots than needed this fall and 3k more than needed next fall. Wow. Hope this is worst case.

What is the latest you can apply for separation? How long does it normally take to get approved? For example , if you had no commitment starting August Of this year , you could apply up to a year prior to that correct ? What if you don’t have a job lined up and find out in June or July an airline wants to hire you. Could the process be done in a month or two ? Or for some dudes like in the current situation who decide to stay in but then decide to get out , how long would it take ?

Couple of questions about England. For TV's I've read some about NTSC vs PAL. My tv is somewhat older and it says PAL-N and PAL-M but I think UK uses PAL-I and it wouldn't be compatible. Is this true? Is it easy to just buy TVs over there and not go through the hassle of trying to get converters or whatever you need. Also, for single guys is Cambridge worth the drive or do a lot of people stay around Bury and Newmarket? Thanks.
-
Thanks for the real replies. It's called being well informed before picking an aircraft. Why would you choose to fly something before you know the pros/cons to all of your options? And no I'm not even sure I'd like to fly for the airlines but it's good to keep your options open.
-
What about it comes to the airlines when you try to get out? Does it matter that it was mostly single engine turboprop time for them? Will they still hire you or no?

What about flight hours?
