The new airline thread
Archer, I believe that you only need 750 hours since you're Mil trained. Not 1500. If you and the family love the idea of where you will go for the next year or two, and the possibility of going to SAAS... and then staff and/or back to a leadership role at EDW or Pax, then you should think long and hard about staying on active duty. If you go airlines, one of the Big 6 will grab you very quickly. In any case, you need to do your homework. And talk to your buds. You don't live in a vacuum. You should know this by now: R-ATP Requirements (Military Experience): Be 21 years of age Must be either; A honorably discharged military pilot Or, provide a record showing the pilot is still currently serving in the military Or, a foreign airline transport pilot license with instrument privileges Received a rating qualifying them as a military pilot Have logged 750 hours of flight time Commuting: As someone who went to 4 high schools in 4 years, I don't have much understanding when someone says "but little Billy will be distraught if he has to change schools during 7th grade!". If little Billy drives the fight, then so be it. Enjoy your commute for the next 30 years.

C-130 Seat Cushion
Question was asked and I'm looking for your expertise... For someone who is 5' 5" and flying the C-130J, they are curious if there's a good seat cushion on the market that is recommended by y'all. Apparently, the J-model HUD isn't adjustable (brilliant, Lockheed) and it wasn't installed for someone with a shorter seating height. Do any of you Herc Drivers have any suggestions? Thanks.

If you are considering the airlines, and this is a serious question, then you need to lean on your squadron mates for some education / mentoring. Commuting is not an insignificant decision... and you need a lot more info than can be offered on this thread.

I'm with SocialD on this. I show up with everything ready, so they don't have to ask. It's a professional courtesy. They are required to check them, and we know it. If the Cappy doesn't care, fine with me. I'm not a Captain... and probably never will be... but if someone is going to sit in the cockpit jumpseat behind me, you can be sure I'll check every one of their required credentials.

Without "job security', your other goals are unreliable. As a pilot who has been furloughed twice, I put job security first.

Reno Air Races
The engines are J-85-13, whereas the T-38 are J-85-5s. The -13's put out more thrust. And yes, you get to cruise and shut one down. Max of 30 minutes for oil issues. Everything I know about that in the operational real-world I learned second hand. Springer would be the one to talk to this, since I've never cruised long enough to worry about shutting down an engine for range. Initial takeofff at sea level, you will see 170 KIAS and 40 deg nose high on your departure.

Reno Air Races
Despite what the panzies say, Reno will be a "covid free zone". So... are you going? Would certainly enjoy saying hi to anyone from here that stops by. If all goes well. I'll be there displaying (static only) the A-37B at the National Aviation Heritage Invitational... a judging event for "older" aircraft. The story behind this airplane is amazing. For example, it was flown by the South... AND North... Vietnamese air forces. Stop by and say hi. My good friend Mark flew the first display in it just 2 months ago... topping off a 20+ year restoration. It goes like a scalded cat. Mark's skills as a pilot are noteworthy. It will probably look a bit different since we will likely drop the smoke system, and put on additional underwing stores for more "authenticity".

What's wrong with the Air Force?
I now feel cheated from my UPT experience.

The 570's are a pretty strong group at UAL. Good on you, Springer. I was bored at breakfast and looked over my pilot list. As of today, there are 7 active L-UAL scabs at United... the last of which retires in 2025. And there are 88 L-CAL scabs at United... the last of which retires in 2028.

Columbus AFB Information
Ok, what happened to the limousine driven by a UPT student that lived in base housing a few months ago. It's not here now. I hope another class bought it.

Surprised it wasn't posted yet, but happy 50th to the Eagle bubbas here. An amazing combat aircraft and a brilliant piece of American technology.

Track Selects and Assignment Nights
Not to many of us. For a long time, UPT grads were FAIP'd to Nav Training back when it was done with the T-37. Worked fine. Why does this seem to be a big deal?

Blue Angels Hire Woman into Delta
Their first pilot, Katie Higgins, was selected in 2014 for the 2015 season (IIRC). She flew Fat Albert. I don't know the numbers of women in the Naval tactical aviation, but I would guess it's a smaller number than the AF.

Yes. I know of a few Blues. And I'm sure there's are plenty of Thunderbirds too.

Air Force is hiring for civilian T-6 IPs
So... AFPC is going through this huge effort... changing the culture of the instructor pilot cadre... and creating 2nd and 3rd order effects that may not be desirable... to get 7 candidates? For how many actual selections? Well... I'm sure this will quickly solve our UPT issues. Just curious. Do some of you see this as a good idea? I'm probably just an out of touch ol' gummer.
