  1. Murph, I didn't know you were flying the Yak. Very nice! I don't know my Yak's too well. I'd guess it's a -9, but the canopy doesn't look right... too big.
  2. I doubt it... https://books.google.com/books?id=vPpuJ8mAXGgC&pg=PA52&lpg=PA52&dq=drew+carey+tailhook&source=bl&ots=J3V9koOyDc&sig=4fTiTEpdz-dPYpraJVZCBRE0Wx8&hl=en&ei=X5tFTYD-GoH68AbJif20AQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CDkQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q&f=false ... but who knows. Maybe he just likes to plagerize.
  3. Flyinrock: thanks for the update. Probably can't make it, but tell YoYo Huggy says hi and congrats. Jughead: 2xT-38's arrive Wednesday around 1400, callsign Roper 41. If there is a place where anyone interested in applying can come out to discuss, would you set it up? Club, on base pub, OG briefing room/theatre, etc... I have a laptop with powerpoint and some good videos with sound, so that would enhance things if there is A/V. Bonus if we can order food & drink too. Your drinks are on me. Let's shoot for Wed evening around 1700. I'll pm you my cell phone number. I'll delete some stuff since my mailbox is full. If you cannot coord it, don't sweat it... I'll figure something out.
  4. Almost never. Usually ever 2-4 years for the Offutt Airshow.
  5. We will have a U-2 at Offutt on Thursday & Friday. If anyone is considering applying to the U-2, there will probably be a Q&A session on Wednesday late afternoon,... maybe at the club. I'm assuming the club is open on Wednesdays? I'll post more here tomorrow, depending how things shake out.
  6. Yes. Supposedly, there was concern that if a warbird flown by a pilot that was "old" were to run into an F-22, or cause some sort of incident, they couldn't answer the mail. All hearsay, but I believe it. Anyways, a few great pilots (like Chuck Hall) were not invited back.
  7. Turn off the water to your washing machine. Reduce water heater temp.
  8. Of course we are... they are an emerging muslim nation. Duh! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_France
  9. Civilian fields is what I'm looking for. North Island only has 1 start cart, despite what IFR supp says.
  10. You must not be from The Holy Land (aka The Great State of Texas), son: anyone that finds it odd to be wearing cowboy hats should move back north. Gig 'em,... whatever that means.
  11. When I was at UT, we beat the fish drill team. But, yes, they generally do pretty well. We would not have beat the team shown on your link, though. Back then, North Georgia College was impressive.
  12. Do any of you T-38 pilots have any recent experience landing at civilian fields in SoCal, as far as getting an airstart? How about Palm Springs? I know SBD, Chino, Van Nuys, and Long Beach are good to go.
  13. I considered a pre-emptive strike in my post to mitigate a post like this. Little did I figure it would be that quick. Nicely done. For those of you in the UK, get up to Edinburgh in Sept for the Edinburgh Tattoo: https://www.edintattoo.co.uk/ You should not miss this. My wife even loved it.
  14. https://sorisomail.com/email/16993/exibicao-de-banda-militar--um-espectaculo-imperdivel.html Enjoy. The suicide toss at 2:45 is great. If I did the translation right, these are Norwegians.
  15. Possibly. Or maybe using your aircraft to push a flamed-out aircraft into friendlier territory, knowing that it will mean you will have to eject too due to fuel starvation.
  16. Being an airport bum, I stopped at Torrence-Zamperini Airport back in 2002 while driving thru LA. I'd never heard of Mr Zamperini before. They have a good museum/display dedicated to him. An amazing individual, who has qualities that we should all have. Great airport, too. Spent about 10 hours there... and ended up flying in a 1920-ish TravelAir for about an hour.
  17. Doesn't March ARB have an "official" Demo Team? As I understand it, they are the ones that developed the routine.
  18. I remember just a few months ago when a bunch of Base Op'ers were duped into pm'ing a bunch of confidential info to someone that should not have been getting it. I'm sure there are plenty of suckers out there that will bite on this. When you do, tell the "congressman" hello for me.
  19. If we're looking at the same video, the pitch is pretty level. What are you talking about?
  20. Ironic... We won't let the Mexican gov't officials into the country to get it,... they have to wait at the bridge, but we allow every other Mexican national to cross the border, stay, and go to college with US grants/funds.
  21. I think I'm going to have a heart attack... or a stroke.... or both. Maybe I should just retire (again), and go away. I know... I'll start my SNJ training next month. That will cheer me up.
  22. I never expected that. And while the A-model is basic, I'm pretty good with a Garmin 396/496/696.
  23. I 3-day opted a 365 last year. I was notified at 1400 on a Friday, and had to formally turn my paperwork in by Monday afternoon. Saying "no" drove a retirement date of the first day of the 7th calendar month after getting the assignment. Example: you get notified on 8 Oct, you must retire on 1 May.
  24. Must be nice to have that much free time on your hand. Once I decided to accept DTS, I've found it saves me time overall. And I'm not very computer savvy, nor am I a fan of change.... ask Spoo or Kuma.
