  1. I am a Herc load. There are some situations that exist where it would be appropriate for the loadmasters to ask the front enders to raise the elevators during loading. It is not common though. Been doing the load thing for 13 years or so with multiple deployments along the way. I have only had to ask the pilots to raise the elevators once. In my case, it was the loading equipment in Uganda that they were using and not the height of the cargo that was the problem. For the non Herc folks on this thread, it is in the AOR regs that you can't have a 25K K-loader behind the aircraft and use a forklift to load additional pallets on the aircraft. You have to bridge two 25K K-loaders together and load that way. Here is what that means. A 25K K-loader is capable of moving 25,000lbs of cargo. It can only hold 3 pallets at a time. An H model Herc can hold 6 pallets and a stretched J can hold 8. The 25K is short. When it is behind the aircraft, it doesn't go out past the tail. Some loadmasters were using a stationary 25K K-loader behind the aircraft and then loading the rest of the pallets using a forklift to load pallets onto the K-loader and then just pushing the pallets across the K-loader and onto the aircraft. The problem was, while operating the forklift to load pallets onto the K-loader, the cargo on the forklift had the very real potential for hitting the tail of the aircraft because the 25K doesn't extend out past the tail. So again, the local regs prohibited this. These guys were abiding by the regs. They had two 25Ks bridged together. So, sadly, there was no reason to have the pilots hold the yoke back. I don't want to speculate, but my guess is that somebody tapped an elevator with a pallet and the unit fried the loadmasters publicly. That would cause them to be over cautious.
  2. I have a concealed carry license issued by the state that I live in. I also have a conceal carry card issued by the AF so that I can conceal carry on the aircraft and do my job. Yet, I can't conceal carry in my truck on base. It makes no sense. I am not interested in carrying my pistol into the office. I am interested in having it my truck for the ride to and from work. Because of my unit's flying schedule, I often find myself driving to work at 4am and from work at 2 am. I usually carry anyway. If I get stopped at the gate, my pistol goes in my flight suit pocket. They don't pat you down.
  3. I just got back from a deployment 2 weeks ago. I am a Herc guy. There was a dude that did exactly what you are trying to do during that deployment. He stayed the whole rotation before us and came home 60 days into the next deployment with a different unit.
  4. You are persistent Scoobs. I'll give you that.
  5. The bro network says Dyess. Terrible day. Prayers to the family, friends and Herk community...
  6. Wolf Angel, is this you?
  7. I have tried to do it right. I have sat down with my commander and let him know my plans, that way they can plan accordingly.
  8. It seems hard enough just getting someone hired on full time. At least it is through our HRO folks... I'm just wondering if there are any stumbling blocks to watch out for or common issues when moving to another wing.
  9. Does anyone have any experience in transferring from a Wing in one State to another Wing in another State? I'm currently a technician and am considering applying for a job in another State.
  10. How did you do it Scoobs? You should offer lots of advice.
  11. The 463L system was implemented in April, 1963. That's where it gets its name. L stands for logistics.
  12. Also closed with Dave Devine. Got 3.25 with no points. No hassle and a great dude to work with.
  13. Do these credit cards recognize the commissary as a grocery store?
  14. I am curious what the sentiment is here on BO about what's going on in this country IRT race and policing. The vast majority of what I see from our Government, the media, celebrities, civil rights leaders and academic leaders can be summed up as misleading at best. I can't think of a bigger issue that has been more divisive and more dangerous to our country than this. Discussions about racial issues have deteriorated so much, that you can't mention certain facts or ask certain questions without being labeled a racist. That is very intentional and is meant to quiet the other side of the argument. Label me as you wish, but I think there are some questions that need answered. Almost 7000 black people are murdered in this country every year. Most of them are murdered by other blacks. Where are the protests when these people are murdered? The slogan "black lives matter" is absolutely true. So, where is the outrage when 20 blacks are killed by other blacks in Chicago in one weekend? Racism exists in this country. Why are white people in this country the only ones that are racist? It is ok for minorities to run around and call whites whatever they want with no charge of racism from anyone. Why is that? Look at the Michael Brown case. I'm white. If I went outside and robbed a store, attacked a police officer in his car and tried to take his service weapon, I would be shot and killed. Why are people's criminal behaviors ignored in these situations? How does rioting, burning down communities, threatening police officers, assassinating 2 police officers (who were minorities) further race relations in this country? It doesn't. It deepens the racial divide and actually makes people racist. Police aren't targeting unarmed, young black men and looking to murder them. Police put their lives on the line every day in all of the worst places this country has to offer. Yet, they are being painted as nothing more than racist murderers. This is all orchestrated. It has to be. My question is why? And who gains by propagating this massive lie? This is a great article and is worth the read. https://www.city-journal.org/2014/eon1222hm.html
  15. I have heard there may be an issue with that company. Rama World is still open. I spoke with them last week.
  16. A simple Google search and you get this. https://monitoringtimes.com/militarycallsignlist-apr09.pdf
  17. Baseops has a resident expert on topics like this. Send Scoobs a PM. He will set you on the right path.
  18. They will be there on sept 26th at 3 pm.
  19. The E's should always buy the first round. The first 6 rounds come out of the cooler that I bring with me on every TDY. That first round is handed out in the "U drive it" while we drive around for 4 hours because the Nav can't find the hotel. The AC should always buy the first round at the bar/restaurant.
