  1. Standard response, in the works... 2.17 lists a number of requirements that must be met prior to using EFB's. From what I can gather, I cannot use any electronic device for navigation or for a checklist until given explicit permission to do so. The Air Force has already covered their behind too. Access to the -1 to study? ok. Access to the -1 to run a checklist? not-so-much. It sounds like you guys are using iPads and the like, but that's just for SA enhancement during VMC, right?
  2. In this case, the aircraft performs a landing and then transitions to a backing. The loadmaster opens up the troop door to clear aft. That is why he was seated at the aft right troop door.
  3. Asian Pacific Heritage 5K Fun Run. P90X at the gym in the aerobics room. Mongolian BBQ if you can wait in line. "The Deid's got [no] Talent" shows: you can't be Frank Sinatra in issue PT gear hiked up to the groin, but you can try. Add a firefighter with no shirt on dancing on top of a truck at the bra and it was gay-severe. Boater-Alpha only communicates with the inflection of a confused toddler. Boater-Alpha????? -Hibernating...
  4. wing guy 1: "We have this mission to the X, and it hits several special-PIC fields. Who's qualified?" wing guy 2: "the guys we sent out there last year" Back to topic: Worldwide pilot or not, there's simply no substitute for experience. AMC says you gotta go there to be able to go there. A reserve squadron is stacked when it comes to the "I was there last year, I know how that place works" currency. They've got people that have been at the base for the last 2 decades. Corporate knowledge goes a long way.
  5. What are the chances he'll be retiring at a lower pay-grade, like B.Gen? You don't need to be convicted of anything for that kind of "punishment." https://www.af.mil/information/bios/bio.asp?bioID=7831
  6. I searced "Cheddar" and came up with some interesting stories on the green grass topic
  7. the contribution limit applies to both IRA's as a total.
  8. maybe they all hit their 90-day time
  9. TSP.gov: "You receive no direct tax benefit from contributing pay to the TSP which has been excluded from gross income; however, the earnings on those contributions are tax-deferred." Look, I can either buy stock and pay short term or long term gains whenever I want the money, or buy a TSP share for the same amount and pay income tax on withdrawal at a fixed date.
  10. A tax-free dollar in the TSP results in income tax on the capital gains. Repeated trading doesn't get taxed, but these are long term funds anyway.
  11. Yes it jives. Just don't contribute to the TSP when you have CZTE without a very good second look at where the money is going.
  12. There are certain themes that arise from each visit. The theme grows from the most common excuse the crew is given at enroute locations. Things like "Sorry, shift-change" or "I just came on shift" or the ubiquitous "I'm new", "Are you joking", "Sorry, I was just on the phone", "AFN rocks", "Try the break room", "Only one crewmember allowed in at a time", "Shift change", and did I mention, "Sorry, the last people on shift left 6 hours ago and the next shift is still in their rooms watching AFN Movie Channel, but I just called and they're on their way, it'll be about 30 minutes because your 30-minute out / alert didn't include me checking on life support/trans/anyone/tacc/atoc/I alerted you and then took a break/I can't read a form 59/G-2 print outs are illegible but if I hit print that's good enough/, please wait". At Al Udeid it is simply "You'll have to wait" which is above average. -rant
  13. Looks like you just got your first job in the squadron. Time to start coming to work everyday at a reasonable time. 1. Sell profitable items -> profit 2. lunch taken to squadron -> people stay 3. free lunch -> all the termites come out of the woodwork
  14. Does CHS actually ask their copilots to deploy an extra 2 months when their squadron is home in order to get more experience?
  15. change careerfields and the avatar (finance_guy, did you draw that picture of an airplane yourself???)
  16. By my best understanding, earnings from tax-free contributions will be subject to your future income tax. That's far worse than current long-term capital gains tax seen in a savings account. ~Net Basic Pay to the TSP for the next few months while I'm home... to diversify and eliminate my 25% income taxes. Until I figure this tax-free TSP contribution crap out.
  17. mappleby - I take it you're single. Don't be cheap and try to base the rent on BAH. Base it on being a damn good deal, because it is weird for someone to live with their landlord.
  18. https://wannamaker.org/aviation/cfi/turns/ ...an engineer needs to know. And mentioned earlier: https://www.e-publishing.af.mil/shared/medi...MAN11-217V2.pdf chapter 6. The long and short of it.
  19. indeed.
  20. 1. Check out the last page of this document - https://www.afit.edu/cse/docs/edu/GSE.pdf - that's pretty much it for DL at AFIT right now. 2. "Systems Engineering" is not "Systems and Engineering Management" - there is a subtle difference in the name...
  21. start here: https://www.afit.edu/en/dl/Default.cfm?l=pr#degree
  22. CBM 07-14 A-10 B-1 F-16x2 T-6
  23. Can I sign up for the TSP and make contributions under the year 2006 (when it is 2007, before tax day), affecting my current return (IRA rules), or is it 401k rules and not permitted?
  24. How about permissive TDY (or just plain leave) and running over to Luke while 'APT' at a base without any such opportunities? Any extra hoops?
  25. avoid First Command... especially if they try to sell you on a 50% front loaded fund.
