  1. I lived in Clovis for 6 years as a kid, and can say it wasn't as bad as most say it is. If I was a single dude, I wouldn't want to be stationed there because there honestly isn't much to offer...especially compared to the Redneck Riviera (lived there too). I still have family that lives in Clovis, and it's a decent place to raise a family. You get used to the smell of the stockyards & constant blowing wind.
  2. Ain't that the truth.
  3. True that. This one time, at band camp, I mean Kadena, we were billeted in downtown Naha since all of the on base rooms were full, and the bus was 2 hours late picking us up, then took almost 2 more hours to drive back to the base. Good thing we were just going to Guam with no cargo, but what really pissed me off is when we arrived in Guam we get a fresh Form 59 & see that we were given a crew delay code out of there. I could have seriously kicked a puppy.
  4. "...otherwise it'll be an ops cancel."
  5. Now if only finance could be open 24/7...oh, wait that's right, it's called DTS.
  6. Thanks for not lumping KC-10s into that.
  7. You'll be fine, Im sure of it. I second the note taking during debriefs...buy a small notebook just for this purpose. I would also write down the things I did right so that I could keep doing those things, but more importantly, the things I jacked up. Before each flight or when chair flying the night prior, I would bust that notebook out & review it. If I screwed it up again on my next sortie, I would write it down again...until I got it right. It's great now looking back in the notebook to see all my rookie mistakes. Also, definitely don't underestimate the power of sleep. You'll have to decide when you need to study a little more versus when to shut the books & sleep. I usually chose the latter, which was worth it for me.
  8. I guess I better tell my folks to sell their home in Clovis real quick before the housing market floods.
  9. Shhhh! I haven't signed the bonus yet.
  10. You have to be careful about Fairfield...anything south of Airbase is generally sketch. Vacaville is just as close & probably better. I think we had a few single guys living in Vacaville, but there is no social scene to speak of in either Fairfield or Vacaville. Walnut Creek is nice, however it'll cost you more $$ than Sac. Highly suggest looking into having a roommate(s) since you'll spend a good amount of your time the first few years in Dhafra.
  11. When I was there most of the single bros lived in Sac.
  12. I skipped last year...still using ESPN?
  13. I'm in.
  14. Yeah, quite familiar with Hilton Honors. One of the previous posts talked about the HHonors credit card & putting your room on it.
  15. How do y'all get around not using the GTC, which is mandatory accordingly to the JFTR?
  16. I would go to AFPC & check the latest SERB message (came out this week). I think I remember something about ADSC waivers in there...that is if you're an O-5.
  17. Good call...Travis is a great location. Another pro for the KC-10: FTU is located at your base! None of this having to spend countless months in Altus, OK away from home. Initial qual, AC upgrade, and IP upgrade all done while you are at home. The only drawback is that sometimes the squadrons don't treat it as if you are "TDY to Altus" and want you to do some office work while you're in upgrade, although the FTU does a good job of shielding students from that BS while you're there. For the C-17 guys: Between initial qual & upgrades, how much time do you spend in Altus?
  18. Real men fly KC-10s. Big Sexy can give gas, receive gas, and haul cargo & pax all in one sortie on your way to Hawaii. Then once you arrive, you break for a myriad of reasons & then enjoy Mai Tais @ the Outrigger the rest of the week while you await parts. I won't mention though the numerous deployments to the same base flying 10 hr sorties in the middle of the night hoping that a B-1 will come take 70K so you can make breakfast @ the DFAC. C-17s are cool too though. I hear they get to land on some REALLY short runways...like that one near MacDill.
  19. Trollers wanna troll
  20. I think she pronounced Ho Lee Fuk wrong.
  21. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for posting those pictures...we need more videos!
  22. I love how there are a few taking pictures after exiting...then posting online. Gotta love technology. I probably would have snapped a few pics too.
