You'd notice a Q-3 as a copilot... but since then I've been an IP in two MWSs. And nobody will give a shit for this RIF.
-
I'm not sure the multi-Q3s will play into the RIF. I'm sure you know people who are not great in the plane but are good officers. I'm not saying that's ideal, but it's reality. These people still serve a function in the massive bureaucracy to which we belong. Those officers who should be updating their civilian resumes are trying to creatively hide an Art. 15 from their potential employer. That brings up a good question... would the private sector really care about an Art. 15 if the member received an Honorable Discharge?
-
Tanker pilots wearing helmets? That's the really unbelievable part.
-
Not saying it's a great plan, but if you're a VSP/RIF eligible officer with an Article 15, you probably saw the RIF writing on the wall and attempted to VSP. If I was picking names, I sure wouldn't pay someone VSP to separate when we can 'fix the glitch' at the RIF board. That then leads into Vetter's argument from the VSP thread about which option (VSP with earlier sep date v. RIF with later sep date) is more cost efficient. Maybe it's a wash in the end. That being said, I know of at least one officer with an Art. 15 who was allow to VSP in 2006. Never say never I guess.
-
Although they didn't release any 03-05 pilots for VSP, it's still likely they'll cut the fat for those year groups (those w/tragic UCMJ afflictions). I'm thinking a few from the bottom 10%ish will still get RIFed.

Not sure if this applies to all Papa Murphy's Take 'n Bake Pizzas... the location in Liberty Lake, WA has a 50% military discount. That's better than the employee discount they offer... you can't beat a large pizza for $6. I couldn't find that information on the website, but when I called the location they told me all about it. The decision to increase any discount has to do with the particular owner, so this will fluctuate based on location... but it doesn't hurt to ask!

I don't doubt that... it really doesn't matter where you go, nor can you control it. But fortune favors the prepared, so if having a GRE score on file may help me avoid AL for a year, then I think it might be worth it. So back to my original question... any love on the GRE prep material? **Concur on the DLAB. It's free, you can't study for it, and it'll fill another square on your Surf. Who knows, maybe you'll end up being a linguistic genius.

As far as my limited search skills can determine, GRE prep is yet to be covered in this thread. As a Touro U grad, I definitely understand the path of least resistance to get min-effort MBA prior to the Maj's board. Perhaps I should have taken the GRE before I got my Master's, but starting it as an Lt I really didn't have the time/inclination to pour time into the GRE followed by an academically rigorous Master's program. Now I'm planning on taking the GRE in order to get a score on file prior to the school board to open up some IDE possibilities. I understand the test will undergo a complete overhaul starting in Aug '11, so I'm prepping to take the current version prior to the switch. I'm looking at the Princeton Review, Peterson's, Kaplan, and the limited pre-tests offered by ETS. If you've prepped for and taken the GRE, which program did you use? What did you like/hate about the GRE prep program you used? Did you take the paper or CBT version of the test?

I still remember sitting through that speech. Every single person in the audience was 100% tuned in to every word that came from his mouth. Then BG Welsh was the definition of a charismatic leader; I doubt much has changed. Good for USAFE.

Well, not everything... Imagine how hard his life would be if his mission actually DEPLOYED.

Dude, that was freaking amazing. Talk about a credible message from guys who have walked the walk.

Breakfast - Hands down Sunrise Cafe. Open from 6a-2p, best Mom and Pop breakfast food in the town. Get the Pile Up to cure any hangover. Lunch - I ended up destroying some Quizno's/Taco Mayo more than any other place Dinner - Val's on Main St has all you can eat fajitas on Tuesday nights and reasonably priced pitchers. Watch out for the 3.2% beer in OK. Ask them what they have on draft that's NOT a 3.2% beer... your choices will narrow significantly.

They did the same thing to me when I showed up in Feb. 5 days offbase, then into billeting. I know a couple reservists who tried to game it and get 16 week non-a, and they failed. I had a buddy living in Madison Trail apartments while I was in billeting... seems like it was a little better than on base simply based off the lack of insect infestations I experienced in the TLF. Armies of moths, beetles and ants crunched underfoot each morning as I trudged to the bathroom. My buddy who lived on the ground floor in Madison Trail never dealt with that, or the hot water sporadically going out. It's at least a lateral move living off base.

Hadn't seen anything official on that... still trouble brewing in Bishkek?

Honestly who gives a shit about what badges we wear in the AF? Do your pilot wings make you man? Are you offended when you see a missile dude wearing a flight suit and having a checkride? I guess I don't define myself by my airplane or my pilot wings. Are my pilot wings less shiny because the comm geeks now have wings? I don't care if everyone in the AF wears a flightsuit, at least then we wouldn't be wearing goofy digital ABUs.

Thread Revival - The first "HJ" rolls off the line. Is ACC keeping the navs?
-
Affirm. Damned good post sir.

Agree to disagree on that. Although logically I can see your point... in the eyes on the AF, if you're an SOS DG, then you're essentially being strated as a top 10% CGO in the AF. With the school select rate at the Maj's board being around the top 20-22%, then it would be logical to assume that every SOS DG would occupy the first 10% of those school selects and the other 12% would be decided on strength of record. Rough wag math. But now let's apply reality. There are some good guys/gals who DG @ SOS and *also* have the record strength from the other eight CGO years. Conversely, there are some chuckleheads who do well for one month @ SOS, get a DG, and think they're made. One great month doesn't offset eight years of mediocrity. You need consistent performance to be on the bubble for school at your Maj's board. Additionally, there are those with very strong eight-year records who get Top Third or nothing from SOS. If you're strong on the paperwork across your CGO years and get nothing from SOS, it's a little alert flag that something is possibly awry (because of the USAF emphasis on this course)... but again, eight-years can/will outweigh one-month at SOS. Thesis: SOS DG is obviously a good thing, but is not always a clear indicator of a school select at the Maj's board. Also, it's not the end of the world if you don't nail down the "coveted" DG. Hopefully you're a good dude/gal who is a razor sharp technical expert in your career field. I understand that holds some weight as well. (spoken by a former OG Exec who will never get that year of his life back...)

Updated intel from AFPC on the mystical DT and DEDB process... search the Portal for "An Officer’s Guide To The Mobility Air Forces Development Team." The powers that be have laid out everything simply so even a 3rd grader such as myself can grasp the process. Also clarification on how to interpret your vector. Excerpts below. How do I get there from here? Nothing shocking in this document... just everything the old heads have been reiterating for years after seeing the process work. You can either stick your head in the sand and bitch about the AF, or know the rules of the game in which you're engaged, win the damned thing, and then start making things better. Two excerpts below... one from the rater perspective and below that what you can do to affect your career.

Thanks Stitch. Any intel on the top 3 & bottom 3 school districts? I'm trying to figure that into the couple houses I'm looking at. My realtor is obligated not to say anything... so I'm relying on word of mouth. Any info would be appreciated. Happy New Year!
