I didn't intend to hijack this thread, I do love the AC130 - and I am happy that it's there to lay it down when needed. I'm happy to discuss the T2 mission and why I love it via PM or the MC130 forum.

I couldn't agree more. Let us leave after day 10, very happy to oblige. Of course, in AFG right now (and also Iraq currently) no one else is doing IMC airdrops at night to the DZs that Talons are. Slicks, Js, C17s, no one. There is a difference in a Talon and everything else, and it isn't just hardware... I disagree about the type of mission that we as a country will be involved in going forward. They likely will not be large scale operations like we are trying so desperately to extricate ourselves from now (rightly in my mind). They will be short-term, CT global-pursuit-type missions. Talons execute those missions extremely well, and crews train to that standard and with those specific users every day and night we fly. Gunships will certainly play an important role in those types of missions and with those users. AC130s are awesome, and also fill an important niche mission, but the amount they shoot ratio compared to the amount they fly is pretty low. If the kid wants to fly AC130s, great - they need motivated and dedicated men to fill their ranks and I want him to pursue it. I personally would rather be flying to AMP-4 LZs a couple times every night with a couple very challenging airdrops a week when I deploy. Oh, and 100' threat penetration just came back yesterday, one more reason...

Nice, but that was a Shadow. And they said it was because they were noncurrent on NVG landings so couldn't legally do it. Talons were first fixed-wing into Baghdad, plenty of video floating around to substantiate... Don't hate CH, love.

As I have said several times on this forum, I love that airplane and forever owe it much gratitude. However, if you like being a pilot and flying the airplane, go Talons. First mobility a/c into EVERY combat zone and HADR area for the last 13 years. Standing by lame Gatorade/gym equipment joke from those who don't really get it...

Pretty sure that might be a straight AC-27J then... There is absolutely a niche for a small LL penetrator with Talon 2-like capabilities, MC-27J could be modular that way also. And since when would a gunship platform not have any need for LAIRCM/RWR?

Now add TF/TA, FLIR, EA, LAIRCM, RWR and we have an airplane! MC27J would be an awesome addition to AFSOC fleet.

You shouldn't need to do that. The new brakes need no warm up - creeping on engine run indicates bubbles in the hydro system. If MX bleeds them properly (I understand it is a different procedure than the old brakes needed), they should work without requiring any drag on taxi.

Rgr, I'm not sure subscribers = total viewers in this case but you may be right. He (on his radio show) stated that he had more viewers on The Blaze TV than on Fox or CNN. Either way, his followership is growing in several medium, and is not at all in a downward spiral. Now let's get back to BG Webb running the country from the Sit Room while POTUS looks on from the sidelines...

Uhh, have you heard of The Blaze? He is FAR more popular now, he has a news site that is quickly gaining ground, an internet tv show that has more viewers than he did on Fox, and still has a very popular talk radio show. Pretty sweet downward spiral.

That thing weighs 86,000 pounds, pretty damn heavy. Never flown a C-5, but I'm guessing there would be a huge CG effect as it goes aft. A 15,000 pound Humvee popping out a C-130 is a massive CG shift, and the edge of the ramp isn't nearly as far from the CL as on the C-5.

This great idea will be f'd up the first time someone gets harassed or offended in the gym at night... Then we will need to sit through a 6 hour class and 4 hour ADLS CBT tailored to gym etiquette and how grunting is not allowed when working out before being granted access.
