  1. Wrong. There are no questions if people simply read the investigation report. It is accurate and yes, I do know the entire story - regrettably. A terrible tragedy, and horrible loss. There is no coverup here, and no hiding of anything that should be made public. Classified is... classified. My understanding is that family were briefed on all that was pertinent to the causes, including non-publicly releasable information. This is grandstanding by congress, and using families as chess pieces to look like they are tough on the DOD and to get headlines.
  2. Interesting, but simply cannot be true considering what GC and Liquid have passed on BODN. "There's nothing to see here boys, what pilot shortage?" I think the next few years are going to be an awakening when the exodus starts. Who knows, maybe the AF will actually see that SOF/mobility are short-manned also and offer up stupid-sized bonuses for all... don't count on many taking it when we can bail and spend time with family - and make more cash - and deal with less BS - and not be accused of (insert random sexual assault/alcohol related incident here) - and not check absurd boxes to get promoted - etc, etc, etc...
  3. Hearing that the O-5 list should be out today. My hopes that the best of you are on it.
  4. There are many very compelling reasons to put gunships at Mildenhall - one is the fact that it can (does/has) take days to get them that far from Hurlburt in a crisis. That said, I agree that an entire squadron doesn't make much sense. I don't see permanent basing for at least many years, for all the reasons mentioned above. More likely, I see a shorter term solution of some sort of periodic rotation there (and possibly to Kadena as well) that may include 2-3 airplanes and crews with a contingency maintenance det attached.
  5. https://www.af.mil/ne...sp?id=123351830 Just saw this solid-gold article on AF.mil, the quote below sums the article up nicely - and pretty much confirms all of our thoughts about filling squares... "The choice is yours and yours alone. Be willing to accept the consequences. Don't say, "He/she only got Senior Airman below-the-zone because he went to school." Rather, you must say, "I lost because I chose not to go to school. I chose not to fill the squares."
  6. Wow, I am getting to this party a little late - so to confirm, this is the same cat that stated he felt that most flyers are of "low moral character", and then vomits a gem like that (Danny Noonin link)? That is rich, and he also claims to be an FGO and active duty pilot. Not sure there are proper words to describe the hypocrisy of this shitshow.
  7. Anyone smart on the stoploss rules? I thought it was an all or nothing type thing, and the AF could not single out any specific AFSC? I also think the AF would be taking a huge hit in the PR department by admitting a giant screwup in their personnel calculations.
  8. He graduated UPT in May 1992 according to his bio.
  9. 2100 hours? Senior Pilot? Sounds about right ... for a junior Major. What is a failing score on the waist measurement these days? And how many feet did he bust it by?
  10. Still confused. Been an AF pilot since 2001 (currently in a staff job with no flying) and always successfully took the book-plate test (no cheating). I took the computer test last year and failed. Retested multiple times, multiple days, no dice. Took the book-plate test again, did fine. Eye doc stated that he would push the waiver for it and my understanding is that I am good. Are you hearing otherwise?
  11. The Microsoft military home use deal gets you Office and some other stuff for $9.95, another $10 for a hard-copy CD. Haven't seen the email for awhile but it usually floats around a couple times a year on my .mil account.
  12. Folks, Has anyone received the same letter that we did last year about this? I have property in Okaloosa County and last year the county sent me the documentation with a suspense of only a few weeks - namely because the law was passed and enacted at that time. This year I haven't recieved anything yet, just curious if anyone else had. It chopped about $500 off my yearly bill, so well worth the paperwork drill getting it together and sending it in. EDIT: Found it on their website: https://www.okaloosapa.com/docs/Deployed%20Military%20App%20OCPA%20FM501DM%20051911.pdf Has a suspense of 1 March, I intend to try it anyway... Good luck to others who choose to do the same. Kind of irritated that they changed the due-date and also didn't bother to send me a notice...
  13. 2. You're foolish and clearly un/under-informed.
  14. There were 24 total AFSOC dudes picked up for school this year. Seems like it should be more than that...
  15. My understanding is that the number of non-select slots is directly proportional to the number of select slots for that year. AFSOC has been putting off sending to school many of its selects, until now when they must go (last year). That jams the number of non-selects that get IDE slots. Maybe I am completely off here, but my source is a senior officer and very well placed, he made this call a few months ago after the SOF DT met. The word from AFSOC/CV was that there hasn't been a more competitive year for IDE. I hope AFSOC guys do get picked up, we deserve it as much as any others do.
  16. I'm told the official list comes out tomorrow... My CDR called me today to pass the shitty news. AFSOC didn't do well apparently.
  17. Anyone heard anything ref results from the SOF DT? Last year the school assignments came out around now. Besides hearing that slots were tough to come by in AFSOC, I haven't heard anything. Normally there is some gauge or rumint floating around but seems to be very little this year
  18. I'd bet a good fortune that my 'read-in' is much bigger than yours. Don't be ignorant. With VERY few exceptions the AF is the supporting command. Embrace it.
  19. I'm hearing rumors that the SOF DT at Hurlburt a couple weeks ago was eye-opening. Namely that there were far fewer slots available for selects and even non-selects, and that the alternate list was very competitive to get onto. Has anyone else heard the same? Care to offer any insights?
  20. "And also Healthcare, Welfare, Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, a House, Citizenship for All, and Foodstamps. More to follow as the pandering continues."
  21. All, FYI: If you're looking for a sweet (and dumb) app that will amuse your old lady and kids, get the Geico BroStache. Just like the commercial.
  22. Did this dude just pick a bunch of random Air Force pictures of other black guys because there was a video of a black 105 gunner already available for him to ripoff? That is funny, and clearly obvious that they aren't the same person. What an idiot.
  23. I filled out the form and sent the paperwork in last week for this, haven't heard anything yet. I will say that according to how the form is written, it implies that there is a straight knock-off of taxes for any time you spent in OEF/OIF/OND, ie: number of days deployed / 365 x 100 is percent property tax free. Not sure if this is actual end state, but seems that way according to the form, and would be a pretty nice extra few-hundred balloons in the pocket.
  24. There are so many great quotes from SrA Boggs, including: "When I heard, 'we need more guys at the front,' I thought to myself, 'I'm a guy. I can be at the front,'"... I'm surprised that AF.mil is willing to put such a grotesque display of sexism on its website.
  25. "He vacationed with a chief master sergeant and bought an investment home from a major." Wow. If that isn't inappropriate, I don't know what is. Who gives a shit about either of these two points?
