  1. One of our young guys was all set to do a similar program - going to PCS to Kadena for a 3 year tour as a ANG guy. Sounds great right? B) False We got the details and turns out you have to leave the ANG, get into the AD. You have no rights to your ANG job after your tour, you could get stop loss, you are in the bucket with everyone else (and likely under the hammer from your new boss) for non-flying 365's, etc. It sounded a whole lot like GFY...
  2. Just got our first AD guy straight out of the b-course. Not called TFAP anymore, it's now TFI initiative or TFI association.
  3. Don't know your background but if you aren't a current or previous 11Fxx - this is the board for you. We only go with experienced boards (current or previous fighter pilot) vs inexperienced (never been a fighter pilot). This is an inexperienced board.
  4. There are 5 dudes here that flew the McDozen. I think we've filled our quota! Haha
  5. That email is answered by one of my pilots in the squadron. You can coordinate for getting on base via that email. Any drill weekend will work fine.
  6. Thanks brotatochip. Our most recent Navy guy did NOT make a good impression. The two before him weren't terrible, so still batting .667 for the long haul. We hired our first Strike Eagle pilot for the transition recently - we'll see how that goes!
  7. It really depends on your situation. The transition course you would need is not the easiest to get - particularly in FY17. When would you be separating? Your year group will mean a lot as well. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to put it all on display. And if you learn to fly God's jet you'll have to learn to live with people like Kenny who are mad they didn't graduate first in their UPT class and still get gunned by our wingmen. It's ok buddy! You have feelings, I don't know what those are, but I'll try to be nicer. ;)
  8. We're looking for a new pilot or two. All interested individuals are invited to send their resume and/or information to 122FSpilothiring@gmail.com . A full application includes, but is not limited to, a college degree or status of coursework/transcript, AFOQT scores, TBAS test and PCSM score, and summary of flying time, if any. All applications will be considered, but only a small number of applicants will be invited to interview in January. I highly recommend visiting during one of the upcoming drills (Oct 14-16, Nov 4-6, Dec 2-4). If you want to maximize your chances make sure all the tests are complete with competitive scores (most of our applicants that get interviews have scores in the 90s) and you are within a semester of college graduation. It also helps if you visit (and don't get hammered and make a fool of yourself - I mention it because it happens). Questions? Shoot an email to the address above. Good luck everyone, we're looking forward to finding our next round of Eagle drivers.
  9. It is platform and location dependent as well as your time in service. There are Navy guys who get hired at ANG units, I wouldn't say "all the time" but it happens. The thing you have to fight is that you don't know the jet, terminology or any of the guys in the squadron and you aren't current/qual'd in the jet. For the Eagle, it's at least a year wait right now if we hire someone that needs a short transition course (re-qual back to the jet for someone that's currently teaching UPT for example). Guys that need the long course could be waiting longer than that. Add that to the thought of being a part-time major/O-4 wingman and a lot of applicants (and units) just feel it's a bridge too far. Those that don't keep pressing. First things first - find a unit or three that you like/want to live near and start rushing. Good luck.
  10. Am I too late?
  11. I took the AGR when I had the same offers. Glad I did.
  12. I loved the comment "is her sentance going to be in dog years?" classic
  13. Yes, it's rare but it happens. We have one guy at UPT that was 31 when he got hired.
  14. Tactically we get quite a bit from sims that we can't replicate in training. 4 vs 20? Sim: yes, anything short of WIC: no. True high/fast flyers (70k, 2.5), etc. I think it's a bit more meat on the bone (STS) than systems and scripted stuff. I did the KA350 program at Flight Safety for the MC-12. It was good training and I felt comfortable in the airplane when I got to Meridian.
  15. That's true about the full L.O. - having the non-LO option is a life saver for the 35. Especially for the Navy since they can't mx LO on the boat anyway... It won't do as well at A/A as the Raptor - with less turn performance and speed than an Eagle, it's obviously not as good as a Raptor. The AMRAAM likes speed and altitude - both weak places for the 35 - even in L.O. config. (I can only imagine how crappy it will be with externals). Also LO intercepts require a lot more a/c performance than you might think. I can't think of a better way to say what I mean by that on an open forum.
  16. I have two good friends that fly it at Eglin. They are both very underwhelmed and do NOT have any praise for it - not high, not low, none. Obviously Bullet has a hand in Lockmart, but the facts are that it doesn't work. The DAC - doesn't work. The helmet - doesn't work. The speed & maneuverability requirements keep getting lessened so they can be passed with this jet we are stuck with. What are we down to now? Mil power 3 g turn at 10k'? Yeah, that's awesome performance. The avionics do sound sweet - they should put them on a proven airframe.
  17. Me sizing you up for a brand new RATR hat in the very near future....
  18. I have an iPad2, but wish I had the iPad mini - much easier to mount different places in the cockpit. I like Foreflight and its cheaper than buying maps and charts.
  19. Got the books today- thanks Steve!
  20. I know there are tons of reasons we started strafe, I was working wing weapons in '04 when we started pushing it at LN. It's a good thing for our jets and our basic skillset. I was trying to avoid saying "yeah dude, we are all strafe qual'd now. It's awesome , fun and easy!" I often look like a jackass but when I do, I try not to do it on a public forum message board. Strafe isn't easy and we aren't setup for it very well, however if I ever got the chance to throw some 20mm at dudes on the ground, you bet your ass I'm in hot. And yes, anything to do with slow moving aircraft is DEFINITELY a reason. How would I know that you ask? Because it's in the rap tasking message, our doc statement (guard) and is a discussion at every NORAD WEBTAC. We are trying to get serious about strafe but when we get the pods it will change a lot of the basics (for the better I think).
  21. Just on the range. We're qual'ing everyone but no one thinks (including us) that it'd be anything other than last ditch for us to strafe. However if we ever did have to shoot down a slow mover (let's not talk about ONE details here, that never ends well) it would be much more like strafe than a/a gunnery. We do a week of strafe at least once per quarter, its only fam. different pots of money man. Big blue isn't buying any snipers for AD - yet.
  22. Yup, paid for (initially) by guard $$. We should have the first round of pods in the guard next summer/fall. AD at least a year later.
  23. I know we are eligible if you are on AGR orders. I signed the bonus last year.
