Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
isuguy1234 replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
Thanks all for the responses y’all. We’re lookin to build a house, but this would b final separation move kind of thing. So, depending on build timeline during these crazy times, might need more than the 90 days. Extension is still a thing, but sounds like it’s a lot more difficult to get it than it used to be. Next question…read a lot that you can’t rent a big UHAUL and car transport trailer and get reimbursed for the car transporter, or the weight correct? (Partial DITY is the plan - we have 2 cars to move) So could I drive my car out a few days prior, then fly back and drive the uhaul out with wife following in her car, and “win?” By that I guess i mean, could I drive my car out and get paid for mileage? Then drive the uhaul out and my wife drive her car out and be reimbursed for the uhaul rental, plus mileage for my wife in her car? A lot to unpack, I know. -

So is that what a moving company would use? Just a regular storage unit essentially that I could rent on my own? I’ve read a couple places in TMOs stuff, that if you exceed the 90 days SIT, then moving company storage is extremely expensive. The regular storage place rates u talk about, I don’t see as expensive so I wonder if there is more to it if u exceed the 90 days of SIT? -

Anybody have to pay out of pocket for your HHG in storage? More specifically, big blue pays for 90 days of Storage in Transit, then if you exceed that, u have to pay out of pocket. Any experience on how much that is out of pocket per month? Obviously depends on how much schtuff u have, just curious. -
Amazing bro, greAAt American and fighter pilot and the list goes on…a toast and .05 🥃

Anybody have any luck getting your final separation move delayed? Not retirement move, just when you separated from the AF for guard/reserve and needed to delay the move a bit. I've had success for a medical deal delaying it so far (1 year), but looking through some info from TMO, I see that an AF Reg conflicts with JTR (imagine that). Queepy now I know, but trying to figure out life things. JTR (dated Jan 1, 2021) says for a HOR move after separation, it's possible to extend that in 180 day increments, not to exceed 6 years. The lovely AF reg AFI24-602 (dated Oct 2020) says not to exceed 3 years. Do I really fall under the AFI, or is there some room to maneuver with the JTR verbiage? The JTR is newer, so that makes the AFI obsolete right?!?! Thanks.

Homestar, you're trackin what i'm throwin down. Trying to pay taxes now on that money i put in during my active duty days, but was too dumb to change it to roth while I was still pouring dolla bills in! Through my research, I didn't see a way to relatively easily transfer my traditional tsp to a roth vehicle as you put it.

Bump! Anybody get out of AD, go into the reserves part time with a Traditional TSP? Looking at options to move it to a Roth IRA (or something roth) now, rather than later. 37 years old....recommendations on past experience with anybody? Seems a direct rollover to an account is possible, just wondering what people have done on here, aside from just reading articles on the truthful interwebs. I know it's talked about a bit a couple pages back, just wondering about experience in the last 5 years I guess.

AD to ANG TAMP eligibility
isuguy1234 replied to Trogdor's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Is there a way to see in Milconnect or somewhere else my TAMP eligibility (AFRC part timer, doin orders for a month and a half - not necessarily a deployment, but Title 10 man days)? Confirm ANY Title 10 orders over 31 days, allows for Tricare Prime while on orders, then 6 months of TAMP Tricare Prime after orders? Just trying to find that reassurance somewhere instead of waiting until off orders to find out. -
So if u retire as an AGR with a reserve retirement(get bennies starting at 60), do u get any final move pcs entitlements? ie, will AFRC pay to move u to ur final destination? I immediately think no way, but figured I’d ask.

IRR opportunities....points

How do you figure out which jobs allow you to be paid and get points, and also be on Tricare Reserve Select? Just talking to the people at that job? -
AFRES Cat E Promotions
isuguy1234 replied to pittsdriver's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
What's the best way to find IMA jobs? I found the ones on AFPC Secure, of which, a lot of them don't have any contact info other than "volunteer for this vacancy." Also, I imagine there are other part time IMA jobs out there that aren't listed on that website, but could be found elsewhere as you "sift the internet?" Looking for something obviously that doesn't require a large commitment in time. -

Found a few posts about this in this thread, but topics usually stray away before a good answer. Has anybody had luck delaying the final pcs move after separation/retirement? Also, is it 6 months or 1 year from separation to use it? i went from AD to Reserves a few months ago and I’m looking to move in 3-4 years ish to the final “plant the roots location.” For those that have had success, how’d u go about it? I’ve heard it’s only a 1 year extension at a time, if it’s granted. TIA -
So unfortunately, I officially morphed into the L5S1 herniation community as a fighter pilot. It's been one of those things that's been going on for....well years, but I finally gave in and got an MRI. So I'm now DNIF, in the Reserves with 17 years TIS(only 12 active tho). It seems like the option is easily available to get treated, get a waiver, and return to flying fighters. I feel tho that the risk is high to reanger the disc and be right back in the hurt locker if I continue flying. Other pilots with this issue, or something similar and expected outcome? Or how did you handle the situation? Options I see are to 1) get a waiver and continue flying to a reserve retirement with risk that I'll hurt my back more, 2) see if I can just keep goin at my reserve unit doing things other than flying for 3 years to get a reserve retirement(but I want to be in the AF to fly fighter jets, not to dream up OPRs for people), 3)Medical separation/retirement options as a reservist? Seems to be several options out there. I imagine other fighter pilots have gone through this, so looking for opinions/best ways forward. TIA
