  1. Not sure how to answer your question, but I did want to pass on that a guy in my UPT class had a BIG problem with airsickness. He threw up all through phase 2 and they figured out it was because he had a deviated septum (don't ask me why). So I don't know if you have had a problem with airsickness, but you might want to get it done. Don't forget that you have tricare while you wait to go active.
  2. You can use the super secret SpecOps fighter pilot handshake if you run into someone who is a poser. (that thread never gets old)
  3. You probably won't get as much face time with the cadre. But when you think about it, you will be there for all ROTC events, just like the guys who go to the host school. IMHO, you should go to whatever school is a better fit for you. If crosstown school (A) has the major you want and host school (B) doesn't, then go to A. As far as the one day a week thing, not sure how accurate that is. Our crosstowns had to come to PT twice a week, plus class, plus lead lab. So you might want to check on that. To answer you final question, I don't think anyone has any solid stats on how many crosstown cadets get pilot slots.
  4. Newer homes, better part of town, better schools. Anywhere on the southside or or the northwest side near the centerville/byron areas are nice.
  5. Or the other classic: "Excellent flight, good overall"

  7. You can become a pilot. That's what I did. Otherwise you have just about every govt alphabet agency in front of you.
  8. No, not everyone wants a pilot slot. At my school, about half initially as freshman wanted a pilot slot, then about half of those change their mind at some point. It really depends on your detachment and your class year. My det started with 55 my first semester freshman year, we commissioned 7 or those. The reason we lost so many people was any number of reasons. From civil involvements, to academic trouble, to just changing their mind, to even one guy how wanted to go on a mission to South America instead of going to FT. The lists of reasons is endless.
  9. Byron is also a pretty nice area, but it will take you 30 min to get to work. (as long as you take Dumbar and not Watson, otherwise, 2 hours) Russell Pkwy isn't much better as far as traffic. Anywhere off of 96 and south of the base on 247 are nice areas. I lived there for 8 years so PM me if you have some specific questions.
  10. There are three sides to every story. This doesn't seem as cut and dry as the article makes it out to be. edit: my day old spelling error
  11. Unfortunately for you capt4fans, M2 has spoken on this... Just to make sure this post qualifies for posting:
  12. I see a cheesy Air Force commercial in our future...
  13. Doesn't matter. You will have the same opportunity regardless. Vance just gets a bad rep.
  14. Not always, drug deals do happen. If one class at CB for example has a bunch or sh!t hot studs and the class at XL had a bunch of guys who just barely got by, they can trade slots for different airframes as appropriate. And there are no predictions. See above post with the graph. It changes all the time. Unless you are at no-chance-Vance, then you are, as the Irish say fuked.
  15. A simulator? Ugh. Not a fighter guy, but this doesn't seem like a good idea, unless sims can simulate 9gs and I just haven't heard about it...
  16. Sounds like "Military Special" to me.
  17. It must suck to live in Nevada and have to deal with all the hippies from San Francisco... Anyone else have "Predator Eulogy" by Dos Gringos stuck in their head? I bet these hippies would like it.
  18. Ze Mole, you need to think like a broke college student. I love a Boston Lager just as much as the next guy, but in college, unless someone else was buying, that was not what I was drinking.
  19. Dude, I did a few calculations for you: Flight suit costs appx. 160 bucks. So here is what else you can do with it. 160 bucks, when I was in college, would buy about 16 cases of Milwaukee's Best Light at the local Class Six. That's about 384 beers. Lets average out 10 beers a night for the sake or math (maybe a little high for you), that would give you appx 38 nights of drinking. Anyone else think his priorities are out of order? In other words, fvck the flightsuit. Drink beer. You will thank me later.
  20. Great read... If you haven't seen the HBO movie version with Kelsey Grammer, you are missing out.
  21. Just out of curiosity, did anyone else get screwed when the new GI Bill came out? I started my $100 bucks a month for 12 months thing last year in February. But, the new GI bill came out last summer, where you don't have to contribute anymore. I tried to stop my payment into it, and I was told by the education office that you couldn't once you start. I hate the education office, every one I've been has been worthless.
  22. Incoming .02... I worked 25-30 per week, did ROTC, and was taking classes full time. It's tough, and it can mess with your social life sometimes (working weekends and whatnot), but it's not impossible by any stretch. Let your det know that you are working part time (or full time), they will work with you on FTP if that's your concern. Most instructors understand that a lot of guys (and gals) have to work through or pay for college, they should work with you.
