  1. Right after SERE, the most fun I never want to have again
  2. Just another reminder of how dangerous this business is. He's to Capt Haney
  3. Can't speak for everyone, but that doesn't happen in the Herk world I know. At Yokota, we have the 5th AF/CC who used to fly with us occasionally (just had a change of command, can't speak for the new 3 star) and we would brief him separately, have his FCIFs signed off and briefed to him, etc. But for the WG/CC or OG/CC? I've never seen something like that. They show up to brief at brief time, sit through the whole thing, walk out to the plane with us, carry their own bags, preform the walkaround, etc. g2s is right, this stinks of "halo effect". Are these O-6s requesting the planes with their names on them to be the ones they fly? What a joke. Apparently hack the mish = don't forget my O-6 placard.
  4. Maybe it's an overseas thing, but the club here at Yokota is packed every Friday. Mostly guys from the 36th and the 459th. This is the first (and probably will be the only) club I've been a member of. The only problem I have with the Friday festivities is that they charge non members 10 bucks to get in, an obvious ploy to get guys to sign up. As far as charging to get into your own assignment night, UFB. But I doubt anyone here is surprised.
  5. Here's to the crew, Godspeed.  It's a sad day for our C-17 brethren.
  6. Be careful...the AFPC Nazis are watching...
  7. Stay away from anything that has a hint of AETC at it.
  8. Standard bell curve my friend...
  9. Complete opposite at my Det in 07. They were looking for ways to get people out, even letting one person out because she thought she might be a conscientious objector (she was a senior...) They kicked two people from my year out right before FT because they didn't have enough EAs for everyone...
  10. Anyone else have a mid month meltdown? I woke up for an early show March 15th and threw the shaving cream on. Started shaving and in my semi-conscious state shaved part of my stache off. I stopped, thinking it could be salvaged and shaved part of the other side but to no avail. (I went from Burt Reynolds to Hitler after the attempted fix) I had to shave it all and I never fully recovered.
  11. More like 7/8 in Arkansas, where the lack or turn signals, driving through red lights, and driving on temp. spare tires doing 80 for months at a time are the norm. Technique only though.
  12. I don't know what they use them for (their equivalent to HC-130s?) but I know the Italian AF has J models that can in-flight refuel...
  13. Lets not get into a pissing contest here. I'm looking at it from a War on Terror (or overseas contingency operation or whatever the fuck it's called now) vs Cold War position. I know there are threats in today's world, I was speaking more in the political aspect of who we are fighting.
  14. Wow, well worth the time it took to read completely! Things get put into perspective when you read things like that.
  15. Herks Baby! Shack. All of the above. Times have changed. Back in the Cold War, there was another major superpower with a large and comparable Air Force for fighter guys to fight. Not there isn't. It's all CAS and Airlift and that's where the action is at. Even if you do go fighters, you are looking at 1 year before you start UPT, 1 year in UPT, 1 1/2 years waiting for and completing IFF, then you go to your schoolhouse for awhile...etc. Plus, back in the day, half of a drop would be fighters. There just aren't as many anymore. You can say that about many airframes. If the tanker doesn't plan fuel correctly, then someone could not get their gas. If the airlift guys drop their CDS 50 yards too far right, the ground pounders might not get their bullets and beans. If you get even 50 feet low or are 5 knots too fast, you could throw paratroopers completely off the DZ. I know comparing that to dropping bombs is a stretch, but my point is that (at least in airlift) we spend A LOT of time going over mission prep, going over CARPs, winds, run-ins, charts, etc. Every airframe has something that requires a very slim margin of error. If it's not executed correctly, people can be hurt. But anyway, I'll fade back and continue to watch this dick measuring contest between the clowns and jocks.
  16. Sounds like they may need to recall more than just 2.3 mil. Just saying, 2.3 million may not be the final tally...
  17. Bingo. There had to be more to it. I'm throwing the BS flag on the race having nothing to do with it.
  18. If you ever make it up to Wisconsin, try to track down a New Glarus Spotted Cow. By far my favorite beer. It's only sold in WI though, so it's tough to come across, unless your family owns a bar up there. Also, SweetWater 420 is pretty good. Their brewery is in Atlanta. It's a pretty cool place. If you get a chance, take the brewery tour.
  19. There has to be more to this. She probably wasn't liked by her crew, but even in the shoe clerk and SNAP world we live in today, it would take a little bit more then what was described to not only get an IG to investigate but to also have them relieve her of command.
  20. Very interesting story! That was a great read.
  21. WTF... The Hooah! button edit: "Fun for the whole family"?
  22. HiFlyer, it would be a shame if you ever had to buy your own drinks at the bar. Cheers, and thanks for the great stories!
  23. This thread is pointless. Let me fix it...
  24. It's just another sign of the decline of western civilization...
