  1. We teach a similar maneuver in AHC, if done correctly it's energy neutral, that obviously wasn't.
  2. WTF really? TACC/any other desk sitting non-aircraft flying REMF job having mother fucker vs an aircraft commander?

Guess the VBZ is a bit pricier these days (MSRP of 900ish). On another note a double barrel 1911:https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2012/03/12/arsenal-double-barrel-1911/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheFirearmBlog+%28The+Firearm+Blog%29

Ruger 77/22 VBZ. I don't know what they actually go for these days, but I got one decades ago as my first .22. With a match trigger installed it's awesome. 100+ meter shooting with a .22 is a blast.
  5. The 706 motor is creating a lot of problems with part durability as was mentioned. The Air Fore will never buy off on the 160th's solution which last I heard was to just just replace things more often, not cheap when you're talking about the transmission. Unfortunatly I think we really do need a larger helicopter, the Blackhawk just can't carry enough specialized equipment and still pick anything up. The 101 does have some strange limits with regard to nose up attitudes at low altitude due to the first thing that hits the ground is the tail rotor, oops.
  6. Bring back TASS?
  7. The clearing barrel/unloaded weapons insanity is coming from the Army.
  8. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Not to mention the procedure requires pulling the trigger! Just leave them loaded all the time and people would treat them as if they're loaded instead of being some paper weight they have to haul around.
  9. Jesus, are we really bitching about who deserves more "special" pay?
  10. This kind of thing does do damage to the "hearts and minds" campaign but as Rainman pointed out, without it they'd find another recruiting tool. The real strategic damage is at home. A democratic nation can't sustain a long term military commitment without the support of the electorate, and anything that makes the people feel that the moral position of that commitment is illegitimate (justified or not) influences the national command authority.
  11. Yep, to include whooping and hollering
  12. Dri-fire vs the A2CU, both can be had in Multi-cam
  13. I assume so, just installed it though. Have a go to to check?
  14. It's up on the NGA site now and you'll need a CAC login, still listed as a beta version though.https://aero.geointel.nga.mil/products/digitalaero/efb.cfm?page=EFB
  15. Pretty sure he was talking about the MWS not the turboprop concept.
  16. Section 3.7 of AFCENT 36-2903 authorizes the "tactical flight duty uniform" aka two-piece flight suit for HH-60 and C-130 crews, but does not refer to any color scheme. The multi-cam two piece is in the system and different than the fire retardent version of the multi-cam patterned ACU which is section 3.6. Wear guidance for patches is IAW unit desert flight suit colors and policies. Pretty open ended, the catch is you're only supposed to wear it when flying or on alert. We're always on alert.
  17. There are no kidding NVIS compliant filters that you can buy but they're extremely expensive. We're mostly using toughbooks now, so when not in use they just get shut to keep the screen off as the filters made for the toughbooks prevent the touchscreen from working (hard plastic offset from screen), so not even an option with an iPad. I've seen some made from a sort of soft plastic filter that used a leather surround and elastic straps to hold the filter on (get a local shop to sew em up or do it yourself, but you have to buy the filter) which worked great, but I don't know where the filter material came from. Photography gels are really cheap ($5 for a 20x24" sheet, Rosco is one of the big makers) and thin enough that they shouldn't screw up the touch screen, and you could just tape or velcro them on but you'd have to experiment with colors to figure out if that would be "good enough" rather than the legit NVIS compliant filters. On that note, I'm going to order some gels and do some experimentation of my own. EDIT: Going to give this a try: Roscolux #389 Chroma Green
  18. Slapping a filter on an iPad shouldn't be that big a deal. We've flown with tablets running falconview for years and the color mismatch has never been an issue that I know of, keeping filters intact has been (legit NVIS filters are expensive) and most simply go without now. That said, taping a photography gel over the screen should work.
  19. Does anyone smell that?
  20. Him Him
  21. "The U.S. and its allies could not have conducted recent operations in Libya and other areas without the Bell-Boeing MV-22 Osprey" ughhh
  22. Nearest I can tell what the Marine's mean when they say organic CAS, is really Marines doing the flying rather than landing in the field. The STOVL thing has more to do with flying them from Amphibs than landing in the field. They argue that we might want the ability to move a MAGTF into a region without commiting a CSG, what conflict would require an LO fighter but allow successful RW employment without SEAD is beyond me however. I guess if you follow their logic, they want a STOVL aircraft and an LO aircraft but their requirements don't neccesarily drive them being merged into one airframe. I still don't buy the amphib requirement, but whatever.
  23. Not a limit, just a factor to consider.
