Rainman, there is definitely a problem with mission focus/capability. However I would argue the capability piece is largely driven by the ops tempo, the focus is probably a result of queep that was always there but becomes an unbearable thorn due to the ops tempo. I guess for some, it's become a death by a thousand cuts sort of thing.

The problem with BAF is the complete incompetence of the approach controllers and lunatic Russians that do whatever the hell they want. The tower guys weren't too bad, but in all honesty I think we'd be better off with a CTAF type procedural approach control.

I imagine the second seat in this aircraft/mission would be useful not for the CAS portion, more for the ISR role and the option to attach extra equipment for specific missions. FWIW Rainman I agree a backend that isn't doing what it should is an SA draining monster, however a good backend is magical. In the end, I don't think it's the mission that determines how many crew members are required, it's airframe design and limitations of technology and integration.

This is no different than the female Marines providing interaction with female locals in south Afghanistan. These gals are not going to to be in the stack in a DA, nor will they out in the field for days on end in an SR mission. This is really nothing new, its been going on for years. The scale is probably the only new thing. That said, the integration at this level is a good thing, the operators at this level need some continuity as to who those ladies are, so they can train together and get better as a team.

Anywhere up in the north west part of town (Rio Rancho) is gonna be a pain in the ass for driving; anywhere northeast, while nice is also gonna be a haul and much more expensive. The area around the college is probably your best bet. The thing about ABQ is that there's petty crime all over the place, just stay away from the area right around base. In any event have fun, Knob Hill area is a great time. EDIT: Helodude speaks the truth. Zuni=BAD.
