I was wondering the same thing...and quite frankly, it disturbs me a bit. The fact that they have not read him his Rights (also I'm hearing this includes the Right to an attorney when being questioned) when he is American citizen is fvcked up...especially when Obama said they're going to treat him as a suspected criminal vs enemy combatant (and that decision whether you're for or against it raises a bunch of other issues). I understand the 'public safety' exclusion in The Constitution, and NY vs Quarles SOCTUS case...but then I ask the question: How long can they detain this guy without actually reading him his Rights, letting him speak to an attorney, getting him before a Judge, etc? I have read a little bit (and also heard a US Senator say on the news) that they can do this for 48 hours...but that seems to be when you are under military custody. I'll admit I'm fairly ignorant on the legality portion of the issue but it just doesn't seem right...and yes, I've heard the arguments of 'he might have placed another bomb somewhere, etc'...but again I ask--when do they have to treat him like an ordinary citizen accused of a crime?

C'mon man...now it just sounds like you're quibbling. We all know you're not the biggest fan of the tea party (funny, because an argument can be made that Libertarians have a lot more in common with the tea party movement than the progressive left movement, but I digress). And you made an original post that most people read as an 'assumption/speculation' that the attack may have had something to do with domestic people who are affiliated with such causes as 'tax day', 'patriot day', etc, when the vast majority of recent bombings (and attempts) have had strong connections with Islamist terrorists...so either your bias came out or you went big time against the odds and lost. I'm not saying you're a Chris Matthews type at all...but we all have a bias, and yours against the tea party often comes out and I think most people on here saw what your originally wrote as a prime example. In the end, big deal, who cares--we all like to make assumptions on this board and we're all wrong from time to time. Just own up to the bias though.

Such a peaceful religion...I'm thinking about converting.

What kind/specs are you planning on getting? As for the AMSEC BF series...again, not saying it's bad, but all it gets is an RSC rating. If you get a Sturdy Safe with a lot of steel, I think you made the better choice.
-
Start watching around 2:30 Take a look at Sturdy Gun Safes and see how much steel that they use (at least on their high end models, with upgrades)...it's the amount of steel that makes the difference. On a low to medium quality Liberty safe, they use 12 gauge, maybe 10 gauge steel thickness, which isn't a lot. Like I said man, don't take my word for it, take the UL's (Underwriters Laboratory) word for it. Most of your typical 'safes' achieve a RSC rating. There's a reason why Graffunder Safes get a UL TL-15 rating...they have a ton of steel and are heavy as hell. I'm not saying a decent quality Liberty won't offer protection (how much it offers depends a lot on how you perceive the potential risk), especially if bolted to the floor, I'm just saying that they don't give as much protection as a lot of people think, that's all. I have seen a couple Graffunder Safes, and wow, you can definitely tell the difference...and when you see the price tag, you'll know why there is a difference. Most 'safe' companies list the 'total thickness' of the door...like the hollow part inside the door along with the fire protection offers much protection against theft? Why do you think certain safes cost more than others?
-
Somewhat sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that your safe is adequate (I jest a little). Here's the thing man--if you feel comfortable about your security situation, then that's cool, no problem. If some people feel they need something more secure, then that's cool too. But to say that someone can't break into your safe rather quickly is not true in most cases. Typical gun safes are broken into with large pry bars (several youtube videos on it). Depending on where you put it in the house, and if you bolt it to the floor, determines how much more difficult it is to pry open due to decreased leverage. If it's not bolted to the floor, then a couple guys can knock it over and have a lot more leverage to open it. Outside of bolting it to the floor, the reduced ability to pry open a safe comes from the increased amount of steel used in the construction of the safe. There's a reason there are different ratings on safes, from TL-30, TL-15, and RSC. Again, not saying you have a bad setup per se, I just want people to know the pros and cons of going with a less expensive 'safe'. It's similar to insurance...how much protection is enough? Well, it all comes down to what the user can and wants to afford in order to feel comfortable with the potential risk. Break Break... PSA has PMags again for $13--better be quick! https://palmettostate...d-magazine.html Edit: Beaver beat me to the Pmags

Damn--sorry man. The good news is that 2 different sites today had them for $13/piece. With today's vote confirming what a lot of us knew from the very beginning (that a ban on mags or long guns would never happen), things are slowly getting back to normal.
-
At that point you're not getting a 'real' safe...rather a Residential Security Container (they look like rated safes and do provide some security). For $2K, if you can afford it, I'd go with either Amsec or Liberty. Don't be fooled into how many locking bolts there are as most of the security comes from the thickness of the steel, which is what drives up most of the price. The fire rating is pretty important to look at as well (in some ways more important). The best place to put a safe/RSC is somewhere out of sight from a grab and go thief, and preferably somewhere you can bolt it to the floor. So although these companies put a sexy logo and a nice coat of gloss paint on their product, opt to spend the money more on steel thickness/weight and fire protection. Diamond Back is another company you might want to check out given your constraints. Edit: Break Break PMags at Aimsurplus for $13. https://www.aimsurplu...item=mmag571blk

It's all political BS. He can say Newtown this and Newtown that, but it's all for show to get what he and the majority of his party wants...and to get them closer to what they really want. Nothing voted on today, if had passed last year, would have prevented Newtown. As for the politics, I don't really think it's going affect much either way in the next mid-term election. Kind of makes you wonder though...the Dems had a super-majority in 09-10...enough to ram through the unpopular Obamacare without a single GOP vote. If the Dems had pulled together they could have easily had passed whatever gun legislation they wanted and it would have been damn near impossible to overturn it since the opposition would later need 60 votes the other way. I'm not saying that all the moderate Dems would have voted for sever anti-gun legislation a few years ago, just saying that they had to party makeup to do it. AR prices are obviously getting a lot closer to the old 'normal'...I wish AK-74's would follow suit. As for ammo, any price between what it is now and what it was going for back in October will be considered a great deal and will get bought up fairly quickly, which then means it will still take more considerable time to bring down the prices.
-
That's what you get for not hitting the refresh button on BO's every 30 seconds...
-
PSA has Pmags for $13/piece. Nice to see the prices coming back down quite a bit. Now if ammo would only follow suit. https://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/magpul-ar-15-m16-30-round-magazine.html

How do you like the 1-4x scope? Is it pretty durable on a 'tactical' rifle? What's the furthest range you can get out of it and still make precision shots?
-
I agree that is is sad (nobody with half a heart wants to see anything like this happen), but unfortunately we shouldn't be too surprised even if it is homegrown. We've had fvcked up people shoot up a school and a movie theater recently...horrible as it is, in a country this large with 315 million people, it's bound to happen every so often. Not saying it's acceptable, just being realistic. And I HATE the politicians on both sides who automatically start saying 'Well, we have to do something'. Sometimes all that is needed is a thorough investigation which hopefully leads to a prosecution of who is guilty.
-
Dude, you're going to have to fight a little bit harder to earn the title 'BO's #1 Asshole' as there are already few others in front of you. Though you're definitely on your way.

Let the record show that it was neither me, nor Nsplayr, that turned this into a political thread.

How much are you willing to spend?

Very nice (the part before the lake). Let me know what you 'thought' about it before you lost it. Mine should be in hopefully next week...which I'm sure will also get lost in the gulf as well.

I can't hold a candle to the guys who flew in Vietnam, and nor do I think I deserve to...those guys were true badasses. Don't get me wrong, a lot of awesome dudes are doing a lot of awesome things these days in a shitty country as well, but not like the Vietnam guys. Years ago when Rucker was still a half Army/half Air Force program, the old Vietnam Vet-era contractor IP's would tell us some pretty amazing stories...what's even better is it seemed that nothing we did (ie fvcked up) ever seemed to scare those guys (unlike the FAIPs that I would scare on most Tweet flights). Awesome post man...he definitely speaks the truth.

So if I follow the AFI's from this point on, am I 'going above and beyond'?? Sweet...I needed another OPR bullet.
-
Dude, you're the man...just picked me up the .308! Too bad it will lost in the gulf right when I get it, but still, great gun at a great price!

I fully agree...but I don't think Smith and Wesson is going take a hit by staying in Massachusetts and I will still buy their products when I see them as a good value. As for Magpul, I loved their products before and now I just love their products even more. But will enough people reward a company so much that it will make up the costs from moving vs not having moved? Tough to say, but in large companies, I don't think it will change much. I just see people (not saying on here but other sites and FB gun people that I follow) making claims like 'I'll never again buy a Remington' because they ended up staying in New York...when it's BS, because I bet you down the line that most would still buy a Remington if they liked the firearm and got a good deal on it, and those folks will also still purchase firearms from other anti-gun States. If it makes people feel good to say that they'll never buy from a certain company again, that's fine...but I challenge to see what people actually do later on. ...also, let's put it this way...if Cheaper than Dirt had quality brass .223 for $.25/round, I have no doubts that a lot of the same people who said they would never purchase from their company ever again will probably change their minds, at least this one time.
