Yeah, what do I know.

Yep—I understood your original comment. Our culture has become one where the majority of Americans want to not hold people responsible for their bad decisions, their lack of effort and willing to fight for what they believe in, etc. This culture shift has also affected the military, hence why so many members don’t blame Afghans for their country’s failures and likewise believe it’s the job of the USA to make their lives better. Not surprised at all.

Simple—I would tell someone to join if they believe it’s in their best interest to do so, and not if it isn’t.
-
Have you seen what has been happening to our military over the last 10-20 years? I definitely can understand, unfortunately.

Having/not having 60-80 hours of T-6 time as student won’t make/break an AF helo pilot getting to the airlines as it will still be more challenging to get to a legacy compared to our fixed wing brothers and sisters. That all being said, Army helo pilots get there eventually if that’s what they really want, it just takes a bit longer and usually means cutting your teeth as a regional pilot. It literally goes against the concept of a commitment, but ok.

I want to know who was involuntary separated because contractor fitness assessors back in the day didn’t count a few of their push-ups on one of their many PT tests. But I agree that I was a big fan of when they went to military assessors and even more of a fan of when they allowed guys/gals in the squadron to give PT tests. It was frustrating when a random assessor said they wouldn’t allow me to do my run first, followed by the push-ups/sit-ups…even though the reg allows it.

Kind of. You must have transferred at least one month of benefits to a dependent prior to retiring/separating for that dependent to be eligible for any benefits post-military. So if you have a new dependent (ie birth of a new child) one day after your official retirement/separation date then you’re SOL. But concur on the not incurring an additional/new ADSC part.

What are “fitness test shenanigans”? And I’m pretty sure you make the commitment to the Air Force, not the other way around (we can argue that separately if you’d like). It’s always been a one way commitment…but that doesn’t change the fact that said person didn’t voluntarily make the commitment and now wants it changed.
-
As humans we always want what we want (how profound, right?)…that being said, why are people always trying to get out of their commitments? No one was forced into accepting the terms that were offered. And this is from someone who very much is looking forward to becoming a mister.

This is one of the repercussions when you make a service (education in this case) a “right”, paid for by the theft of taxpayers.

If I’m a betting man, I bet it’s around 60-65%. That’s assuming that HC-130 pilots make up 15-20% of the 11Hs and that about 35% of those pilots took the bonus.

If the Feds really wanted to cut the cheating then they would adopt the Fair Tax, but they won’t. The Feds are about picking winners and losers…and they suck at that as well.

So this why Hunter Biden is getting away with all of his crimes…now I get it!

Once again this issue (like all others) comes down to the one simple question: Do you believe the government should be more involved/have more control over X issue, or less. It’s obvious from all the other posts on this site who favors more government control, and who favors less. And if you are only a favor of more government control when your person/party is in control, then you’re also part of the problem. It will be our downfall.

I’m sure bringing in even more unskilled labor into the US via illegal immigration will help raise wages of other unskilled American workers… Supply vs Demand…or something.

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP

Don’t worry, everything is fine. Biden told me so. And if things like gas goes up, then that’s just the price we have to pay to fight climate change.- 1,190 replies

“The Times They Are a-Changin” Seriously…take a look at politics today: If a progressive Congressman/Senator had to choose between funding our retirement or getting amnesty for illegals, government funded abortions, “free” college, etc then our retirement would lose every time. Now I’m not suggesting that said Congressman/Senator wouldn’t support funding our retirement and these other programs, but rather just telling you where we rank in the scheme of things. The military is back to being an avenue for pushing social change and less about being a well prepared lethal fighting force.

He has already said that he’ll plead guilty if he can get an honorable discharge…which I doubt the USMC will go for. As it is, if/when this goes to trial, I think his attorneys will try and make the Corps/DoD look pretty bad in several ways.

I got the smallpox vaccine back in 2004. A few days later it was oozing/itchy, I felt a little flu-ish, and then it scabbed over and now I have a little scar on my shoulder. You must be a youngin’…

Reposted since it’s my current argument…and it’s only stronger after the Afghanistan embarrassment (which I also somewhat predicted as well when Biden in July was bragging about the competency of the Afghan military…though I didn’t think the collapse would happened nearly as fast as it did). So not only would we not do anything militarily to stop China, we’re so in bed with them economically that we don’t even want to piss them off with what we currently say/our current foreign policy. The entertainment industry is so in bed with China that they refuse to even recognize the atrocities committed by the CCP (but somehow the US is evil due to “systemic racism”) and also they (entertainment industry) refuse to recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation. The MSM by and large also sweeps the atrocities committed by CCP under the rug when compared to the other nonsense our media focuses on (Trump collusion with Russia as one example). With all the above, I’m willing to bet that the American population by and large would not support military intervention if China goes into Taiwan…and they wouldn’t support a massive hit to our fragile economy due to the US imposing stiff penalties against China for doing so. In the end…I think China invades Taiwan NLT summer of 2024. The CCP isn’t dumb and they also realize everything I mentioned above—so why wait until a new administration potentially takes over in 2025 and the ballgame changes?

I don't drink, so it wouldn't bother me. But I have plenty of family and friends who drink responsibly, and think it's worth covering as it's common enough of a vice. Plus it's hard for insurance companies to measure "too much" alcohol consumption, especially compared to something like tobacco use. I don’t think it’s hard for medical providers to determine if the need for care had to do with consuming alcohol—certain liver issues, injured while driving intoxicated, etc. So why cover it at all? No one needs to drink (I no longer drink as well), so why cover what isn’t necessary? The only way to fix our medical/healthcare system is to totally remove the government regulations forcing hospitals to provide care, forcing insurance companies to cover high risk individuals, etc. But since the vast majority of Americans have been conditioned to believe that more government involvement improves their lives, well, here we are. Oh and the people I know who are refusing the shot are some of the healthiest I know—not overweight, exercise regularly, eat well, you name it. So whoever posted the opposite, here’s another anecdotal data point.

So the argument that those who are unvaccinated and have to go to the hospital for covid and are taking up a bed/patient care (and thus potentially limited a bed/patient care for a different person with a non-covid silent) is 100% not a valid argument as to why someone should get the shot?

Let's deny medical treatment for alcohol related incidents-it's their choice to partake, so why should I have to pay for their drunken stupidity... I definitely agree! Sadly I don’t think that you would support such a measure…or maybe you would?
