Perhaps the board looked at the entire records of all those eligible and scored them as they saw them? As frustrating as it is, I’m sure you wouldn’t have been as upset if you were one of those promoted with a P over someone with a DP. As much as it sucks for those good folks getting passed over, especially with a DP, I’m glad to see more people with a P getting promoted, even if that means some with a DP aren’t getting promoted—it means an (supposedly) impartial board is actually looking at the entire record.

Disagree man—if that were the case for me, then I wouldn’t have made O-5. I was a Top 1/3 graduate at SOS and was a Wing CGO/qtr, but had very few strats as a Lt and Capt (and those weren’t anything great). As a Major in a staff job I just did my normal stuff, but I guess that was enough for my O-6 to give me a couple of solid Major strats and pulled a DP on my IPZ board from the 2-star…which is what really matters to your O-5 board IMO. That and a breadth of different experiences (ie duty titles)/leadership roles. I’ve also since been a Wing DS and had a voice on the wing strat meetings…a Major can get a solid push if the bosses think they deserve it, regardless of their prior record. But I’ll also add this—competition is everything. If you’re competing with weak swimmers, it’s much easier to look good and that can be a make or break when it comes to strats, awards, and getting a P vs a DP. Sucks to hear about you and other good guys and gals getting passed over. I just wanted to add a bit of a different perspective. Good luck!

I just saw “News of the World”—I like westerns and Tom Hanks is still a pretty good actor. It was a bit slow, but neat how they discuss various areas of Texas (if you’re familiar with the state). I give it average to slightly above average.

My quick bar napkin math tells me that it’s nearly impossible to be a ‘graduated’ sq cc and then have your first look. Even if you’re early to command, I’m pretty sure your first look would still be while being a sitting commander. I had a recent Sq commander who was not a BTZ O-5, but was a school select on his O-5 board, who then was picked up his first look while being a commander. Interestingly enough he turned it down.

Can’t disagree there…but the memo even states that leadership shouldn’t ask people if they’ve had the shot or not. Though I am interested in seeing if commanders attempt to take admin/disciplinary action against those who haven’t had the shot and stop wearing masks…it will open up an even bigger can of worms.

You can’t reason with the far left (and right)—they’re the same people who think that it’s racist to require an ID to vote and it’s like Jim Crow, but yet requiring that same ID to purchase a gun is just “common sense”. We even have people on this site who support such nonsense. The difference I see is that for the most part it’s the left that has gotten far more extreme with their views in the last 10+ years. Remember when the left was against illegal immigration, and now if you even say the words the left will call you a racist? Just one of many examples. And sure there are examples on the right—the abortion issue for one. But again, which side has seen the greatest change in the last 10+ years? I think it’s obvious.

If only there was a system of government where there were individual smaller governments (let’s call them states in this example), and they could largely be sovereign as long as they adhered to very basic principles (like no slavery, allowing people to have their own religion, not stop people from being able to protect themselves, etc)...and then people could pick and choose which state better reflected their own values and priorities. This way the national government would have less influence on people’s everyday lives when compared to these state governments. If only such system existed...
