There are two types of on-base housing: towers and garden units. Dogs are only allowed in garden units. Some tower units can accept cats. The wait list for a garden unit is typically longer since they are the only ones where dogs are allowed, and you get a yard and don't have to take the elevator everywhere. Get a copy of your orders to base housing ASAP. That sets the date you get on the waiting list, not the day you show up. They will offer you the first unit available that matches up to your family size, so if you have dogs and need a garden unit and they offer you a tower, you are paying for lodging out of pocket until a garden unit opens up. Best assignment ever!

New Active Duty studs sent to Guard squadrons?
czecksikhs replied to Finals's topic in General Discussion
Cheyenne, Petersen, Keesler, and Anchorage all have guard/reserve associate units. You would be in the active side, however, with AD leadership. You put in your dream sheet, then you go into the office on the big day and pick in order of merit based on NSS in your class. So, even if you finagle some drug deal and have one of these in the drop, you must rank higher than your classmates or they must desire something else. -
If it's Charlie Zulu, I hope he gets crabs.

Just got my new ride from Alamo BMW a couple weeks ago. Still doing the engine break-in so the top end is governed down until the 650 mi service, but it is more than enough to scare the bejeezus out of me already. BMW has a military promotion going on for a free safety package that includes traction control and ABS ($1500 worth of electronics) until the end of June. Concur on USAA no longer offering insurance, got farmed out to Progressive.

Lame and unoriginal to boot! The "author" pretty much stole the thing whole cloth from Drew Carey, in addition to whining like a kid who skinned their knee. Dirty Jokes and Beer by Drew Carey

Had a bud at my last duty station who failed the test after a night of dissolution about a year ago which cost him his WIC package and his upcoming job as the Xth AF/CC aide de camp. I am still not convinced missing out on being an aide de camp is a bad thing.

Thanks for the info M2. I am down in Corpus and there is a Saxet show 27-28 Nov just north in Robstown. You mentioned earlier in the thread a shop near here you bought a pair of 1911s from, you have any gouge on that shop? So far, most of the gun stores here in Corpus have been pretty disappointing. The next time I run to SAT, I'll check the Powderhorn.

M2, I am just back from an OCONUS tour and have 4 years of pent-up gun buying itch. There is a Saxet show in town next weekend, do you have any vendors that frequent the show that you like/prefer? How have prices stacked up against Buds Guns/Gunbroker/Etc? I have a monster list of wants and needs to get through, but I would like to get a Mossberg 930 SPX and an AR or AK since the house feels pretty naked without any firepower.

Just a few short months in Europe and you are already a vocal proponent of dude-on-dude genital grabbing. Very cosmopolitan. He's in good company with several pilot and flight attendant unions and Chesley Sullenberger WRT not wanting his junk touched by mouthbreathing clowns.

CH, have you made much progress on the Turbine Legend you put a deposit on? I've been thinking about going that route.

AVE F AME is good and all, but I'd rather get a relay and divert than fly across the entire Atlantic to Spain NORDO and without a transponder.

No denying I was out of regs according to the USAFCENT sup, I'm all educated on it now and living right. Maybe you just overlooked my main point that HE CALLED THE COPS OVER IT? That a SNCO gave multiple rude directives to a pair of CGOs without checking fire to verify who he was talking to? It's kind of like walking around in your bag and jacking everyone in PTs who doesn't salute. You have no clue who you are dealing with unless you know them previously.

I was walking to the chow hall at ASAB tonight in PT shirt, shorts, and black knit watch cap. I pass a SFS First Shirt and his lackey and the shirt says, "Can you take off your hat?" When I inquire as to why I should do such a thing, his lackey chimed in and stated that it's not authorized without a jacket or pants and, anyways, "This is a first sergeant who just gave you an order. Do you want us to call the law enforcement desk?" I laughed and kept walking until this clown demanded to see my ID card and the lackey started dialing 911. We traded ID cards, I took the hat off since I wasn't 100% sure of the reg, he realized I was an O-3 and started adding a whole lot more "Sirs" and a salute or two, and I am still in awe. I had read about these homos on-line, but I had never seen a real live specimen in the wild in its' natural habitat until now. What a sad creature! It's only a step above sock and sweaty shirt checker at the chow hall. Turns out, the USAFCENT reg has a provision that you need a pair of long johns or an outer garment before you can escalate to a knit cap. 6 years, 38 days until I can Palace Front.

We've got a crew at ASAB that starched and ironed their boony caps as an dig at the base honor guard types who do the same, without the crewdog sense of irony.

I don't think the bottleneck these days is what the leadership there wants as much as the limited numbers of training slots available. As of a few months ago, the only J model transition slots were going to Phoenix program-types and the leadership positions and I am pretty sure that is still the case.

Yokota still rocks balls in 2009. You can live on or off base, Tokyo has pretty much anything you could ever hope to see or do, and the flying is tits. You're gone about half the year like stateside units, but instead of the 4 month on and off grind you get to go to cool places like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, etc. Pretty soon you'll get on the inbound list to the squadron and we'll hook you up with a sponsor. If you have any questions in the meanwhile, PM me. Have fun at the schoolhouse and start checking the box on your masters!

Ah, the ramblings of an old man with permanent inner-ear equilibrium issues after thousands of hours flying in a left bank while his booth monkeys do the real work. I'll see ya some AETC time and raise you a handful of deployments, air medals, and combat hours. Maybe you'll understand in a year or so. Fear Tac Air, bitches.

Kinda like the plan to re-wingbox the E's and H1's. I'll believe it when I see it (and I don't want to).

Six years, 290 days til Big Blue no longer owns me! Funny thing is, I would have signed an ADSC for eternity when I got my pilot slot....

I am 2 years on station at my first assignment, and all I have seen is an Officer Call once or twice to talk about making sure your SURF is correct and how important it is to do SOS/get a masters to set yourself up for IDE. We were all told to submit current ADPs on the portal, but I haven't heard anything back from leadership about where I want to go/do next. My assignment cycle isn't until July or so, but it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy so I will pimp the commander sooner than later. Agree with what's been said above, it's pretty poor form on Ops' part. I'd like to think if I was in a command billet, one of the biggest kicks I would get is from helping SH young cats progress and at least trying to get dirt bags to see the light and not step on their schwanz.
