  1. Yep, still on the syllabus

There's no way they did that test at a realistic landing speed of 100mph. The tires on the F-150 would have been toast. I'm betting it was at a much, much lower speed, and did not happen very quickly at all.
  3. Looks like the inside 117 is about 10-20 feet from sucking on wake vortex, so I'd imagine that would be a concern.

  6. That's bona fide bad-ass.
  7. Its at a different location now. I just got my charts laminated there last week for cheap. Mardel's is on the east side of 167/67 just past exit 3 I believe.
  8. Honestly, the best flight training I experienced at ERAU was not in the cockpit. The courses on CRM, large aircraft flight technique and systems, and flight safety provided me far, far more education on flying than the flight instructors did. I think when it comes to in class education, ERAU can't be beat. In the air just depends entirely on how much effort you put into learning it, and who your instructors are (just like anywhere else). Florida > North Dakota. No questions. ERAU's biggest drawback was the cost. And no, ERAU will not give you any advantage in the military (being a pilot or otherwise) than anywhere else. However, there are ALOT of Riddle grads on active duty, so you'll run into people everywhere. $.02
  9. PilotWannaBe, you're a student, and being put through the crapper is a part of training. Now, if someone outright doesn't salute or something similar, you should totally pimp them on it and remind them that you ARE an officer. But you should expect alot of people to treat you like a lesser life form for a while. But don't be a dick and act like since you are a student pilot, you deserve recognition and respect. Pay those dues, man.
  10. We were listening to local traffic at the GA field we were flying over in eastern Florida. Two guys, one airborne, and one guy in the FBO, were having a conversation on UNICOM. Pilot: "How was dinner with Nancy?" FBO: "It was good, what did you and your wife do last night?" Pilot: "Oh nothing, she went out with some friends I think." Random pilot: "Your wife was with me last night, man." (laughter from other A/C)
  11. It just depends on the mission you want. Do you want to kill from 40k feet and never see the target, the country, or any of the places you'll be flying over? Or do you want to fly low and slow, stopping multiple times on your way to go anywhere, seeing every part of earth imaginable? I'm biased, though. Different lifestyles.
  12. Does this grate on anyone else's nerves? "I was flying from Tulsa to Dallas, when I heard a Bonanza check in on Fort Worth Center: Fort Worth Center Bonanza 1234 WITH YOU (hate that) at 7,500 bla bla bla. Center comes on and says squawk 0123. After a while the center asks the Bonanza to squawk altitude. The next transmission I hear is the craziest thing: Bonanza 1234 confirm squawk please, he replies yes squawking 7500. Center comes on screaming (with bells going off in the background); Sir, 7500 is the Hijack code, you need to be squawking the code I gave you. You have the whole nation alarmed." So, you're telling me that if I'm discretely squawking 7500, Center's gonna come over the mic and say "HEY, ARE YOU BEING HIJACKED?" FAN-tastic.
  13. Newcastle Brown Ale.
  14. Because that CFM-56 is SO inefficient...gimme a break. If you're going to point at the sky and claim dead-dinosaur abuse, at least point in the direction of Shreveport.
  15. YGTBFSM....
  16. Isn't that asking for an ass-kicking?
  17. I'm curious, why are you trying to get data to the second for landing? I've never done it before, but I'd think there would be an option in the aircraft's configuration menus, similiar to how you set Climb/Descent rates.
  18. LRAFB huh?
  19. If you're here at the 562d now, you are surrounded by buff navs/EWO's. Just ask them. When you get into Ops, you'll learn more about the EWO house. There should be a couple buffs in our drop on Friday as well
  20. Ha...friend of mine saw almost 600GS once. It was windy.
  21. Just out of curiousity, why is that? I thought the 50k rule was in place due to physiological considerations, i.e. if you depressurize up there, you're toast. Is there something that makes the Raptor an exception to this?
  22. Isn't that about 9k higher than allowable?
  23. https://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070216/ap_on_...spain_hijacking He may not have been quite the enemy we're fighting, but it sends the message that crews and passengers aren't going to take any more sh*t lying down.
  24. Exactly why I put down MC-130P's on my list, which aren't moving from Eglin. MC/HC drops are scarce. Luckily, I'm the only one in my class who wants one. Barney, just come to every drop night at the O-club, and you'll get a good idea what aircraft are dropping by the time you get to that point. 07-07 drops on Friday (and I heard they have a HELL of a drop), and my class (07-08) drops March 9. They haven't dropped an HC or an MC to a nav since El Roy's class I believe. Been a few months.
  25. MC's and HC's are my top choices, my drop is in 4 weeks. No one I talked to doesn't like where they are. Rocker is an HC guy, and Linda is an MC, so you can direct questions there. HC's have one nav, no EWO. MC's have two navs and an EWO, depending on the variant I believe. There is supposed to be another Command Day in May, so hopefully they'll have another HC and MC out for you to look around in like they did in October. Great experience! Both have an awesome mission, that I hope I'm lucky enough to be a part of!
