  1. If you're still looking for which place to take loans out from, I have two loans from MyGreatLakes.com and Nelnet.com. Payments, as said above, didn't start until 6 months after graduation. For me, it was enough time to get settled at my first base and collect a couple paychecks before the loans came in. Hope you don't get stuck on the 180-day wait for AD.
  2. Same story at Randolph. They got rid of towels around September, but are almost finished building the brand new gym. Not that big of a deal though, just bring your own towel.
  3. In 90% of cases, you don't have to go on Sundays. That's typically an "extra" training day, and is not required by AFROTC regs, unless your Det/CC has made it no-bull mandatory for some reason. Talk to your APAS about what is mandatory or not, and explain your situation. With any luck they will be understanding and try to help you out. Keep your head in the books and keep pushing. Its worth it in the end.
  4. I hear they're flying aircraft from around the country in so students can graduate on time. All of the aircraft were insured, so I can't imagine them asking current students or alumni for money, unless they're just being greedy (which is probable). On a side note: apparently, while the tornado was touching down on the airfield, tower was still clearing aircraft to land. Story:
  5. Glad it happened over the holidays and no one was killed. Unfortunately some of my friends may be losing their jobs :
  6. This cadet is retarded. What the hell are they teaching at the zoo? That you deserve everything you want? I'm a nav stud a couple months away from graduating, but I sure as hell am not going to strut over to the 99th and ask for a -38 ride. Take what you are given, and don't ask for more.
  7. Oh, there HAS to be a story behind this one. STS. [ 22. December 2006, 12:12: Message edited by: Toasty ]
  8. Randolph has a ton of different colored jets. They have the dark gray/light gray 38's, the Moody-scheme 38's, the white/dark T-6's, the new gray T-6's, the white Tones and the gray Tones. The only things that haven't changed are the ones heading to the boneyard- the -37 and the -43.
  9. 07-05 Randolph drop last Friday: Nav 5 B-52's (wow.) 1 AC-130 1 slick EWO (I think) 3 EC-130 3 RC-135
  10. Civil Air Patrol: A Renegade Band of Degenerate Homosexuals.
  11. Theory from a friend: Maximum temps in the brakes are achieved during the RTO. After stopping the aircraft, the brakes begin to cool, and in doing so, convect heat outwards (or in this case, into the tires). The air in the tires slowly expands until the tires explode. Unless we totally missed something.
  12. Alot of civi-stuff will cross over, especially if you already have your instrument ticket. However, be prepared to RAM-dump anything that conflicts with what you learn at training, and study the hell out of it if you can't seem to get past an old habit.
  13. What degree do what from ERAU? If its anything other than pilot/business, look elsewhere, because the AE/EP degrees are hardcore math/physics. You degree doesn't matter to the Air Force, nor does the school you came from. Stick and rudder skills can be taught anywhere, by anyone (ie the USAF). However, the flight program had other benefits (on the classroom side). And its ungodly expensive.
  14. The third is commonly the small arms ribbon if you qualified at FT.
  15. ROTC, save the Det/CC, is run by non-flyers. That's probably a likely birthing area. A couple guys I know are fighting it at that level, but being cadets, they just end up getting in trouble.
  16. There's a fine line between gouge and cheating. Some gouge I wouldn't take to a sim with me, because I thought it might be seen as questionable. Here's an example of a fine line. The first can be explained through thorough prep, the second cannot: Gouge: You may go to one of these 10 airfields, so here is the routing and times for all ten. Cheating: You're going to this airfield, so here is the routing and times. Hopefully they didn't do something entirely stupid. Although for the CC to call OSI instead of handling it on a lower level kinda leads me to believe it was pretty blatant.
  17. If you already have a slot (which I'm pretty sure you do), there's nothing you can do to change it. Suck it up and rock out when you get here.
  18. Just show up, and they'll tell you everything you need to know. The class start date they give you doesn't mean much- you'll start whenever they fit you into the next available class, so you might be casual for a while. On casual duty, you show up to PT 3 times a week, and that's it. Its an AETC base, so when someone takes a dump, everyone wears diapers. We've had a few alcohol incidents lately, so the next person who screws up is going to get hosed. Overall its fairly chill at the squadron, and most of the instructors are fairly laid back and there to help. Basically, don't sweat it. Its not difficult here.
  19. You mean, kind of like a Systems Operator? Or a...Combat Systems Operator?
  20. ElRoy, I'm game. Let's go say hi
  21. If you have completed or are ineligible for IFT, you'll probably start class within 3 weeks of arriving (unless you can convince the NIFT Flt/cc that you need more time to get a house). If you still have to do IFT, you'll have all the time in the world to househunt. A friend of mine has a great house just south of the base on 1604. There are some great new places off-base to buy a house.
  22. There's a guy in my nav class who washed out of T-38's, just six weeks shy of graduation. I'm sure he's not the only one. (By the way, he's a zoomie...a ROTC kid woulda gotten force-shaped)
  23. I don't have the reg in front of me, but I'm 99% sure that the only time that counts is time at the controls (dual/PIC).
  24. Oh sweet Jesus, look what we have done....we've just sent them back to the drawing board to spend more money and waste more time for a uniform with more "pizazz"...
  25. I believe the typical wait between commissioning and starting UPT is about a year, give or take a few months. During that time he will be put on casual duty at a random base, and its possible that he will go to ASBC in that time.
