  1. Depending on the situation, the C-130J does not have an extra crewmember up front. In combat or with pax on board, the LMs are in the back. If you can't find the rIght airfield with all the tools you have in the J-model, you have no business flying. Of course, just like backin up the visual with the ILS, they only work if you use them.
  2. Not to say it's their job or anything, but a nice "Reach 6969, you appear to be turning away from the field" would have gone a long way in his incident. The Marine tower controllers at Camp Dwyer saved my ass one night as I shot an approach on NVGs in a dust storm by telling me it appeared I was lining up on the helicopter LZ. Granted, it was their bad for not turning on the lights for runway, but still, a crew save's a good save, even if it's from ATC.
  3. Max reverse and standing on the brakes...real tough.
  4. It depends on the school and degree program. I only got 3 for SOS from AMU.
  5. I can't wait until the squadron gay pride picnic!
  6. Did they get fired because they did something that necessatated a referral OPR, or did getting fired generate the referral? My point is, if information comes to light in the analysis of the SIB that the SQ/CC's leadership abilities contributed in some way to a mishap, then that commander losing his job would be a necessary outcome of the SIB. It would be negligence on the part of the OG/CC to be presented with that evidence and leave the guy in charge. It would be basically the same thing as a commander directed downgrade, which is a legal result of a SIB. You just couldn't give the guy any legal paperwork that would be reflected in his personnel file.
  7. I still am not sure being fired is what the AF considers adverse administrative action. Does it generate any paperwork (referral OPR, UIF, etc.) or are you just removed from command and taken off G-series orders? If there's no paperwork that goes in your file and could generate an other than honorable discharge, then it doesn't meet the UCMJ definition of administrative action.
  8. Not true. UCMJ punishment can not be handed out as the result of a SIB, but Q3s and commander directed downgrades are not considered punishment and as such are fair game. Losing your job would fall into the latter category.
  9. This was actually a briefing that was given to the 1-star AEW/CC. I don't think there was any chance of him jumping in the poo pond without the briefing. Poo may not cause burns, but all the treatment chemicals and hazardous waste in there do.
  10. No buy I did see a briefing about a Marine whose buddies paid him $1000 to jump in. Got himself a one way ticket to Landstuhl and third degree burns all over his body.
  11. They've been saying that for years. Until they have finally pumped the last drop of poo into the camel pasture out the west side of base and filled in the hole with cement, I won't believe it.
  12. You guys are being disrespectful to a highly decorated officer. She has the AF Training Ribbon and the National Defense Sevice Medal, among others.
  13. Agreed. I vote that link gets moved to the Bad Ass of the Week thread.
  14. If you want to fly low-level on NVGs, you'll want to go AFSOC. In slicks you get to 500A at night maybe once or twice a route. The rest of the time you might as well be IFR. And we don't actually get to drop stone cold killers into dark fields, only C-17s get to do that. Only problem is it's several miles away from the field they were supposed to be in. Also, coming in day one saying this is cool but I don't want to do this my whole career is a terrible way to start. I've never seen a nav go anywhere but to Herks in AFSOC (your best shot), UPT, UAVS, or staff. I'd say your chances of going to a CAF assignment are slim to none.
  15. Nice. Have they got the aileron roll down yet, or just sticking with the barrel roll?
  16. Part of me gets aggravated every time I see our guys doing dumb shit they know is against the regs for no reason. The othe part of me says, if you don't want pictures of your mangled body taken with our troops, don't blow yourself up.
  17. Most of the guys who saw that looked away shortly thereafter. You took the time to count toes. Just sayin'.
  18. Which budget. USAF? DoD? I'm willing to bet that it's a bigger chunk of AFGSC's budget than what you quoted.
  19. She was able to hide a sharpened stick in one hand while performing oral? You would think her kidnapper would have corrected her poor technique.
  20. I'm not, but I just realized I got one detail wrong. It was actually the AF Core Values.
  21. You laugh, but I know a loadmaster who has the Airman's Creed in Kryptonian (Superman's native tongue) on his back. Words can not describe the awesomeness.
  22. Why are you implying race is involved? If there was video of a black man being beaten and stripped by a bunch of white folks while people sat around laughing, I'm sure there wouldn't be any protests at all.
  23. A big "2" on going the M-ASAP route. File a report and numerous O-7s and up will see it and wonder WTF? The O-6 in charge of the program is at least required to have someone look into it. If nothing else, the guys at AMD who were leaning on you will get asked some questions about why all the fuss about harassing an AC for making a call that he has been briefed a hundred times in his career to make if he's not feeling up to the job. This should at least make AMD think before giving the 3rd degree to a crew calling crew rest.
  24. https://news.yahoo.com/record-seeking-skydiver-makes-13-mile-test-jump-233204849.html Apparently the current record holder, Col. Joe Kettinger, is advising him. Pretty cool stuff.
  25. FWIW, I have seen an O-5 allow .ppt slides like this (i.e. missing "s" and "ed" a the end of words) make their way up to a Wing Staff Meeting. Said slides were made by a female African-American secretary and he'd rather the WG/CC think he was an idiot than correct the secretary on her grammar. It is entirely possible this chick has made it her entire educational/military career and no one has pointed out that you make words plural by adding an "s" and past tense by adding "ed". In our society, if you point out that someone is using ebonics, you might as well be saying the n-word.
