  1. What about the right of self-determination? Many Scots (roughly half) believe the policies coming from Wesminster are not in Scottish best interest. Additionally, with a seat at both the EU and UN, Scottish global interests (whatever those are) may then be more powerful.
  2. The biggest negative is uncertainty surrounding future oil revenues. Scotland is a fair bit more liberal than England, but those policies won't work if there isn't an oil tax base to fund it.
  3. I'm not eligible, but different year groups in the same career are. I found it insulting.
  4. No. I'm trying to convince folks that we should go train Scrummasters and take an Agile approach. Additionally, we have a severe shortage of CISSPs...
  5. Yes...it's much worse. We gave yet to figure out how to develop a good IT program manager.
  6. ABU wearers don't understand the pain of trying to poop in a place with less than sanitary floors.
  7. Not true at all. Where I now sit in the AF Cyber/IT acquisitions realm, nobody on the government side has technical expertise. We contract that out. GCSS is a Lockheed Martin product....
  8. Combining the federal acquisitions process with IT is an absolute nightmare... On the outside, only about 50% of ERP systems are considered successful.
  9. There's a flip side. Due to "proper" accounting procedures, I recently had to adjust a roughly $300K purchase request by $0.59 because the receiving party didn't want to deal with fractions of dollars and returned my two quarters, a nickel, and four pennies. It's impossible for the DoD to take an adjustment and move on. Businesses do it all the time.
  10. Call Tailwheels, Etc in Lakeland and go with whoever they recommend.
  11. Sad outcome. ...interesting to read how the press describes "Dear Mom, Your Son is Dead." May Moose forever sing dirty fighter songs in the fighter bar in the sky.
  12. All ATP doesn't have a Part 141 program (let alone a VA-approved 141 program), and so can't take VA funding.
  13. The GAO doesn't get it at all. They're blindly reading rules that were created to figure out where the Gitmo detainees were supposed to go in the event we move detainees stateside. An ADA violation is chickenshit in which every President and every SECDEF would rail against.
  14. Are you suggesting that the promotion board should not see that an officer has accomplished rank-appropriate PME?
  15. I haven't seen commissioning source mean anything to anyone above the 2LT level.
  16. Yep... This would likely not have been a conviction in the civilian world due to different evidence rules. This isn't the civilian world, and this guy got convicted by a panel of his peers for rape. I don't give a flying crap about a few hundred grand when the compared to the disruption of good order and discipline he caused.
  17. I teach a bit on the side. One instrument student has only really been in the States for a year, so he doesn't get all the cultural references right. While departing a posh Massachusetts island, he called "Marta Stewart ground..."
  18. This one surprises me the most. Why did someone (likely an O-3/4) tell the MCPO to go engage the outside world vice doing it himself.
  19. I had never heard of a CFETP until I became the lone rated dude in an acquisitions organization. It's definitely a non-rated thing. Instead, the rated world has MAJCOM-approved upgrades for each crew position. CFETP = Career Field Education & Training Plan. Basically, it's a guide to what training at what time is appropriate for each AFSC. It's authored by the functionals for each AFSC at SAF. It replaces that speech from an iron-major that each rated Lt gets when landing in an ops squadron. For the non-rated folks, numbers in each org is smaller, so that type of feedback is formally published.
  20. That's the pot calling the kettle black... I don't know a single 61X who writes an EPR, and I've been in AFMC for six years.
  21. The problems I see are that there just aren't enough rated officers to go around and that officership in the MX world us more than a full-time job.
  22. I left a wing a year ago where, from the WG/CC on down, nobody cared about deviations. Therefore, there was no arguing over MX dev versus Ops dev. It was a really amazing thing.... The stat we cared about was through-put.
  23. If you take the view that the AF trained you to see the big picture, calmly make quick decisions under pressure, occasionally tactfully convince higher ranking folks that they're wrong, and get the job done with not enough resources or time, then the AF trained you quite well for the outside world. Yeah...being a civilian nav...WTF? Ironically, I was offered a job as a civilian F-15 WSO in the St Louis area, but turned it down....
  24. Anyone who seriously believes this is silly. Sure, there isn't an obvious career path to Delta, but there are plenty of opportunities in the outside world.
  25. Histograms or data by base would be interesting.
