  1. A noble argument, but the reality is the difference in capability requirement and time/cost to train a RPA dude is vastly more than a one-each FSS dude. Additionally, the AF doesn't have a problem filling FSS slots/stand to lose a crushing amount of experience if dude's decide to get out. So in reality, it actually would pay dividends to think about things such as where RPA dudes live/operate. They're not better human beings or above "the suck," but they're job/manning situation cannot be compared to the FSS.
  2. What RAM really meant to say was #13...he can thank me later.
  3. Sounds like you guys did SOS right. Always cracked me up seeing the "motivated" flights studying, organized PT, working on the weekends (I shit you not), etc. while you're drinking your face off and using SOS for the vacation it is.
  4. A mega fuck ton...seriously. Yep, its way over budget, way late and has been terribly managed. It will get annihilated in a BFM engagement against an enemy who has some clue about BFM execution (from a pure Em standpoint anyways). There are downfalls, but it's what we have to work with. Despite some of the downfalls, it still has some amazing capability (coming up in the next 3 years or so) that blows the majority of current fighter capability out of the water, minus the ol' Em diagram of course.
  5. Well in that case, 90% of the Air Force should be civilians.
  6. What the fuck is Mrs. Gearpig into? Nice...
  7. Champ shacked it - the entire MPS building might as well be death and blind. Perhaps we should have a special recruiting push for individuals with an IQ less than 90. The quality of service/work will not change in any appreciable way.

How long have you guys had yours? I've read several reviews about the batteries just failing with no warning (despite the claimed low batt warning), leaving the key as the only entry method until batteries are replaced - something you certainly don't want when it counts. That's one of the things that makes me think something mechanical (ala cipher lock style) would be better. Thoughts?

    Gun Talk

Any of you guys have experience with quick-access handgun safes? My son is old enough now that loaded guns present obvious problems. However, I want to keep a loaded handgun in the house (bedroom at night primarily) in a locked container, but still have quick access. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on different companies, biometric vs. mech, etc. Just looking for anyone's recommendations/experience with such products. I also plan on putting up some mounts for at least one of the shotguns high enough that my son can't reach them, but my wife and I can. This is the first time I have the opportunity to keep loaded guns in the house for defense while keeping my kid away from them (been overseas for several years until now). Any advice in this department welcome!
  10. A real WTF is why Tank gave no warning of what details were actually shown in the video...Tank, you son of a bitch!
  11. I hope to God this is short-lived; what a fucking catastrophe.
  12. No need for a calculator at all, just do what chim said and you'll be good to go.
  13. What the fuck! Just the fact anyone even knew that function existed (i.e. went looking for it) blows my mind. I'm sure that guy had a well deserved, miserable time in UPT.
  14. There was one order with the Chronospace, but apparently Breitling said no way on another one; however, I heard they would do a Chronospace Auto order (sub dials vs. digital readouts is the big cosmetic difference). In my opinion, this model is the closest thing to the old Airwolf, if that's the style of watch you're looking for. I've heard a lot of good things about Andrew Michaels, probably a great place to start.
  15. The best part is the end when you say "no" and they act so annoyed/shocked you don't know.
  16. Are you insinuating that since you are a "family of 3" you're looking to avoid deploying? Good luck with that; it's the military, no matter what job you do. Maybe you can dodge it for a while based on enough volunteers, but at some point it's going to happen.
  17. When I was at Vance a local cop came on base and gave a shitload of bullshit parking, etc. tickets out one day. Technically he had jurisdiction. But on a good note, the SFS/CC and WG/CC lost their shit when they found out and ripped the local cops a new one - all tickets were thrown out.
  18. Oh there won't be a lack of drinking, maybe a slight decrease, but that's about it.
  19. Here you go. Search the FAA website for the FAR sections referenced in this document. SFAR 101-2.pdf
  20. Definitely take the written. If you end up overseas after B-Course (pretty good chance), you actually get an extension from the FAA on the two year thing, i.e. you can take a practical with an expired written so long as this is accomplished within 6 months of returning to CONUS from an overseas assignment. This data verified by two separate FSDOs. It is highly likely you'll have 750 total (combined, not Viper) at the end of your first assignment, easily will have it if you deploy. If you get a CONUS assignment, you'll still likely make it within the 2 year req if you deploy/do the Nellis grind. This of course assumes another shitstorm of sequestration doesn't hit and put you at 100 hrs/year.
  21. True...2 or 3 months ago, don't remember exactly, but it hasn't been very long.
  22. Chief of Staff noticed it missing and asked "WTF?" It was back up shortly thereafter. Maybe a "small victory," but I'll take all these small victories any day over the massive losses suffered under previous leadership.
  23. True statement, but that will never happen unless the AF does an abrupt 180 (which I'll put a million bucks on will never happen). Clubs are still used to some extent overseas because it's close and easy to migrate over there when everyone's already too drunk to drive from work, but the level of use is still a far cry from the past I'm sure. But why the fuck would I go to one in the states where there's a ton of other establishments off base where I'm not paranoid about the SAPR gestapo, some shoe writing my name down for later consumption because they saw me do X, etc. Stop madness like that and the AF may see some revitalized use of the club. But when you castrate the "safety" of the club and make it somewhere where everyone has to closely monitor what they say and do, you drive people away. I'm not saying guys desire to do insane things, but even the slightest misspeak or perceived "bad" action these days could get you in a shitton of trouble. What ever happened to people just leaving if they didn't like something? Instead they just go running to mommy and call foul.
  24. Pretty sure you only need 50 ME hours - how is it possible anybody who has gone through UPT doesn't have that...unless you're a helo guy maybe?
  25. I think everyone knew that is how it stands NOW. That ruling does not stop any future decisions on a mil-comp ATP. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't, but it's certainly a possibility in the future, albeit SEVERAL years best case.
