  1. Don't worry, they've been getting plenty of CT while we do their jobs for them (don't worry, tongue in cheek for all you out there about to flip out).
  2. What? There's a whole shitload of dudes who spent 6-9 months on casual, then a year plus on BIT after UPT doing jack shit. While obviously a crappy situation and not ideal (but infinitely better than other possibilities), they've got OPRs and will be fine...no way they get passed over for Maj just because of that.
  3. I wish my definition of near term was the same as the AF's definition.
  4. You're doing it wrong...
  5. Wow, that guy might deserve biggest D-Bag of the year award. I hope he and his "promising career" (as he probably sees it) gets crushed.
  6. Agreed. If an E-6 comes up to me and discretely/professionally lets me know about something I'm doing wrong, then I'll respect him for being professional about it, I'll say, "thanks Sgt for letting me know" and we can both go on our way...leave it up to me as the officer to make my own call. That's why I'm "paid the big bucks" and if I decide to still wear my gray socks, my not approved benie on the flightline, etc., don't go running to Daddy and accept my decision. The biggest reason this "chief bashing" exists is because of douche bag E-X's who think its appropriate to yell at an O for something (reference the sunglasses example above). You pull that shit and you're going to get an O vs. E showdown. It's about mutual respect...I wouldn't yell at an E across the chowhall for something unless it was a big deal and needed correction faster than I could walk over to him and have a talk (so probably only if he was about to hurt someone). So I expect an E to do the same. Only problem is a lot of E's do not do the same an instead feel they have the right to say whatever they want to an O, damn near order an O to do something, etc. It's unbelievable that this shit is allowed to happen. Does anyone realize in any of the other services an E would be crushed 100% of the time for shit like this?
  7. Been quite a while since I've flown either, but from what I remember they're very similar to fly besides the obvious (DA-40 is a bit larger, has higher V speeds (not by much), etc). Either way, if you have DA-40 time, the "transition" will be relatively seemless.
  8. We left Vance a few months after base housing went privatized, at that point there were no issues with guns in the house (just have to register them with sf) and I think the max pet number was either 2 or 3. Either way we only told them about our 2 dogs and said nothing about the cats we had at the time. They don't check.
  9. If you're single (i.e. possibly living in the dorms) either don't bring your guns or have a friend lined up who lives in base housing or off base where you can store them. You DO NOT want to have your guns stored in the armory (you cannot keep them in your dorm room).
  10. Damn, I hate it when jets just out of nowhere spin out of control.

How is it the AF can't at least provide a secretary at the SQ level to do all this shit? Oh wait nevermind, plasma TVs and new furniture...my bad.
  13. The only problem is that this is some of the most idiotic and horribly incorrect statement making I've seen in quite some time. Clearly Chuck Spinney et al have zero clue what they're talking about and the above is so retardly wrong its laughable.
  14. Been at the pisser for about a week...this can't be real, but I'm with Nsplayr, funny as hell either way. I'm sure he'll get a fighter, I mean if you can "peg" 30 mph, then clearly you have the ability to fly a fighter, it's science.
  15. Or even worse when you finally get the mangled, dislodged VOL X out from the case and the approach you need has been ripped out in someone's obvious haste during a previous divert. That one's my favorite.
  16. At least when I was in your shoes years ago, I remember the reg specifically saying sim time did not count, but things very well could have changed.
  17. Are you saying AT-6s could take on CONUS alert duties?
  18. There is...depending on your clearance. Usually if you have a dual citizenship, you have to drop the other one in order to obtain above a secret clearance. This deal is probably a one way door...if you move to Aussie land and fly for them in this kind of deal (i.e. not a USAF exchange), give up US citizenship, etc. I almost guarantee you're fight club days are over forever.

Don't worry, it was probably a calculated decision to reduce the amount of Christmas Eve ammo bowls and all morale that goes along with them...you know, for safety and all. What a douche.

I've seen 6 weapons officers in the last 2 years working on masters/IDE, because they too realized they're screwed if they don't check the container. Nobody is safe from all the AF bullshit. Going to WIC because you think it'll make you untouchable/safe from masters/queep, etc. is the complete wrong reason to go.

    2. Copy, you're full of shit and don't actually really care about being tactical. Please can he get fired ASAP! I'm not holding my breath on AESAs, but that would be awesome.
  22. It wasn't stateside and the BO was on a checkride, so I figured let his examiner do the evaluating/mentoring. Not to mention I had other shit going on the other radio and didn't have time to mentor a BO. It was just a single tanker and EMCON 2 was definitely supposed to be in effect. The tail number thing was an unrelated comment to this specific occurrence, just related to the overall thread.

Because it makes too much sense. "Leadership" will never go for it.
  24. I don't think he is. A few weeks ago at night the BO (-135) kept extending the boom for "ready for contact" so I kept moving in from pre-contact (sorry, astern...gay), then he'd get on the radio and tell me to return to pre-contact. This happened with everyone in the flight at least twice. WTF dude! Then my favorite radio pile-on is, "Viper 3, cleared to contact." No fucking shit, I just finished and this is EMCON 2. And yes, I got asked for my 5 digit tail number over IC at night with my lineup card buried at the bottom of a stack of mission materials. Unfortunately I have seen this act on many occassions, so I think 3 holer is right on...a lot of tanker crews either have no idea what EMCON 2 means or they're just sloppy and don't give a shit. That said, thanks to all the awesome tanker crews I have worked with who followed EMCON 2 and actually did things to help us out (i.e. get out of the wx without me having to ask, being flexible with dragging us to where I wanted...yes, I've had crews refuse to leave the track, even though its in the middle of our airspace). Don't want to make it sound like all my tanking experience has been bad, because it has not.
  25. 2. I enjoy a good light grey/Raptor bashing session, but in all seriousness, the Raptor is an awesome asset and it's ridiculous we only have the number we do. I think Beerman has great points as to how it could have been employed in Libya, but the point is it wasn't needed there. It's never good logic to use something just because we can, we should use something because we need to use it/it makes sense. The Raptor brings unique capabilities to the A/G fight when it comes to double-digits and clear advantages in the A/A realm, both in employment as well as SA enhancements to other players, but Libya was not that A/A or A/G environment. No reason to bring in Raptors when Vipers and Mudhens make more sense for THIS situation.
