  1. I've never had problems with life support. But I did have some MX guys try to "encourage" me to take a jet I knew had something wrong with it. I told them no way, I'm going to a spare. It took the Top 3 to get the Super to actually give me a spare. What a jackass...he could care less, it's not his ass in the air. That really pissed me off, but other than that I've never had problems.
  2. Just b/c a MX guy "knows the job" doesn't mean he's always right when it comes to the jet. Two days ago I had to taxi back to chocks to get a "simple" problem fixed, however as I was taxiing out of arming the engine started to surge at idle, engine instruments were fluctuating rapidly...completely abnormal. So I told lead I was just taking the jet back and getting a spare...he agreed (mind you he's a 2000 hr patch wearer). I got back to the chocks and a "specialist" tried to convince me that everything was w/in ops limits (they weren't) and that I should just let them fix the other issue and take this jet. I said no, I'm shutting down and going to a spare. I then go to talk to the MX super and ask him about a spare, his reply: "Sir, I can't just give you a spare b/c you don't feel like flying this jet." I was shocked...I told him, fine call the TOP 3 and see what he has to say. Needless to say I went to a spare a few min later. When it comes down to it, MX plays a numbers game and it's not their asses in the air. I've had no problems with MX until that day, but it just goes to show they're not always looking to do the "right" thing.
  3. Jailbreak + PDAnet (an app) = tethering
  4. And how exactly would the insurance company prove your doors were unlocked when the car was stolen?
  5. Dude, I agree. Like I said, I'm a big proponent of purchasing F-35s as well as more F-22s (than the current buy number). Also, the A-10s and F-15Es aren't going away right away. So if the Govt decides to pull their nuggets out of their ass and buy some more F-22s in addition to the F-35 buy, I think we'll be in a good position. You bet. I'm not blowing up about my resume (hence my "I KNOW VERY LITTLE about..."), however I certainly understand and know a lot more about this general subject than a civilian with no classified access and someone who's not even a military pilot. My problem isn't with the F-22, it's with some guy who doesn't know shit about fighters/military flying and yet still thinks he's right when he says things that are flat out wrong. I have no dog in an argument with dudes like EvilEagle, Buddy or Beerman...but I certainly do with a guy like blackstang.
  6. Maybe just my opinion, but it's not a bad thing to keep cost as a high priority, AS LONG AS you get a good product that meets specs. Remember, the F-16 idea was a basic day VFR fighter that would be "cheap" to build. Don't tell me the Viper isn't a very good fighter. That's just an example of how a project started with such a simple/low cost outlook and evolved into something much more. The same can be said for the F-35. I completely agree that we should be buying both. In no way do I think we should stick to just 187 Raptors...it's retarded. I think we need both and I'm not here for a fighter x is better than fighter y. But it's dumb to think either aircraft is far superior to the other. They're both excellent fighters with mind-blowing technology that will allow us to keep a vast edge on our enemies from some similar standpoints, but also from very different standpoints. Just b/c they differ in some areas does not make one worse than the other. If I took your post the wrong way, my apologies.
  7. WTF was that guy thinking...on multiple occasions. I think this d-bag is the winner for gayest tats ever.
  8. And that's based on what? Never had a capes brief, have you?
  9. We could, but that doesn't include not buying the equipment we need. Doing with less means stop buying 69 plasma TVs every fucking year for every squadron. Stop changing every uniform on a 2 yr basis. Stop buying the scheduler 4 GHz computers with 4 22" LCD monitors so he can use...excel (I mean seriously, WTFO). My wife has a GS job...sounds like the civilian side blows as much money on random shit as the AF does. I'm not kidding when I say I bet we could save BILLIONS by just not buying stupid shit. Oh wait, you say that's common sense...never mind, that won't be happening.
  10. F-15 "Twin Tailed Butt Pirate" Didn't know the Eagle had more than one name!
  11. There's only one right answer and that's it.

    Booze Talk

2 on Laphroaig. I'll also throw in Bowmore...good stuff. I realize it's only Coors, but they will give military a ton of free beer at the end of the tour. Ska is awesome. Well, basically everyone you listed there is awesome. I'd also throw in Left Hand. As far as Whiskey: You can't go wrong with JD. There's also a Colorado distillery that makes Whiskey and it's good stuff. Just google Colorado Whiskey and you should find it.
  13. Sounds like a rumor started at a UPT base. I'm just saying all the word going around here is exactly the opposite of what you said. They're not closing multiple Viper squadrons and sending Vipers to the boneyard, just to buy some more vipers when they can just wait 4 yrs or so for the 35 to be operational. I'd love to be completely wrong and have what you said happen, but I'm just stating reality as it stands right now.
  14. With the rate at which Viper squadrons are going away, I would think Viper UPT drops will never get back to what they were. I have a feeling we'll continue to see a drought for a while longer until AFPC realizes the "not enough fighter pilot" shit storm they're heading towards. Maybe it'll be like the late 90s all over again. Who knows.
  15. Yeah, guess my mind thinks in bigger numbers. Either way, the guys still a dumbass.
  16. I like how the guy accepts touching down with about 1300 ft remaining. Nice.
  17. Non-existent. The state the guard unit is from pays the AF to put a dude through UPT-IFF-RTU. So, their slots are allocated separately from AD slots. Seems like every guard guy here at Luke starts here still a 2LT. The guard guy in my class hasn't even done any survival yet b/c he had very little break between UPT, IFF and RTU.
  18. Completely agree. Waiting over a year to start IFF and then go to RTU sucked, but I'm so damn glad I waited. Anyone who even considers giving up their fighter b/c of a wait is making a big mistake (just IMO of course). It sucks sitting around a UPT base, but any wait will be worth it once you get to Luke, DM, etc.
  19. It depends on the base. I was at Vance and it depended on the week, but you might fly once or you might fly 3-4 times (on a really good week). Sometimes they were front seat rides where you did most or all of the flying, sometimes they were backseat where you didn't touch the stick (sts) once...which made those rides 100% waste of time. Talking to my bros who were at Sheppard, sounds like they got screwed (sts) and hardly ever got to fly, and it would be a miracle if they actually got a front seat sortie. Some guys just took shitloads of leave and traveled, some guys worked on masters, etc. No kidding. IMO, that's the dumbest decision that guy will ever make in his life. It sucks that someone like that takes an A-10 slot, then just throws it away while other dudes would kill for that slot, but now don't get a shot at it.
  20. Several guys have done that. One even gave up his A-10 for a Pred.
  21. That's awesome. Man I wish we had these.
  22. My class drop had 4 vipers in it. It was pretty standard to see 2-4 vipers every drop. That was right before the shit hit the fan and BIT became the standard for all of us.
  23. One of our patches here is one of the initial 10. He doesn't even go to Eglin for another year or so. He said the plan right now is to start taking fighter dudes on the VML around early-mid 2014. He thinks it'll be at least a couple years of VML dudes before they start dropping them at UPT. So in his opinion, with no setbacks (and there will be), F-35s won't start dropping at UPT bases until 2016 or so. You can't plan anything more than 2 months down the road when it comes to the AF, but his opinion on the subjects holds more weight than any of ours, so I'd say it sounds pretty logical. So anyone with future hopes of flying the 35 should do their best and hope you get a viper or hog out of UPT (those will be the dudes who start going to the 35 at first...supposedly). I think the F-35 is envisioned to also replace the Strike Eagle, but that sounds very far down the road. Maybe Cap-10 or Toro can speak more to that.
  24. My poor parents' house. So much NES-related violence.
  25. Man, now I actually feel kind of bad for blimp folders. They get no respect because of us!
