I'm not claiming 180 hrs is a lot of GA time, but it's a lot more than the average guy has going to UPT. It's definitely enough to know where one stands on GA. I'm a big supporter of GA and honestly would love to go fly a Husky in Alaska, take my wife up in a cherokee and go have lunch in Flagstaff or whatever. I'm not dogging on GA, I just personally can't justify spending such a massive amount of money on it when I get paid to fly during the week. If renting a plane cost $50/hr I'd do it, but at the ridiculous rates nowadays, I just won't do it. Ok, you drive a hybrid, I like my classic vette...why is that dumb? Bottom line, I love flying more than anything except my family. Just b/c I don't see justification in spending thousands to fly on the weekends during UPT doesn't mean I don't have the same love for flying that you or the OP has.

I had 160 hrs of GA time prior to UPT and probably another 20 hrs of "not logged" time with friends. I've flown to many "podunk" airports for a meal. I had great times flying GA. So, maybe next time you should have a little SA and not start talking out of your ass. Look, I can see your point about "relaxed" flying and how you can't get that in the military. However, at the very least bring into your crosscheck the immense cost of GA today and tell me how the hell it really makes sense to shell out a bunch of money to go fly on the weekend when 1. You get PAID to fly far cooler aircraft (even if it's more stressful) 2. After 5 days of UPT, you're probably not going to want to spend your free afternoon of the week flying (and if you do...fine, but that'd be like being an indy car driver all week and then having that burning desire to go drive a Yugo on the weekend). I can see once in a while doing it (sts) b/c your GF is in town and you want to take her up or something like that. Whatever, I guess you just don't get the same satisfaction out of your job that I do. Different strokes for different folks.

Are you sure they only put in 8-9 hr days or are they just gone the other 3-4 hrs flying with one of the FS? I don't have an IP perspective, but I'd think they'd rather be in one of the FS over the TRS. I could be wrong though.

Man, I remember when it was $3. Damn ammo costs.

You're not going to have time. Plus, why the hell would you shell out a bunch of bucks to go fly some little bug smasher when you're getting paid to fly something a million times better. I don't see any logic in that. You'll get plenty of flying in during the week...I think the last thing you'll want to do is go bore yourself in a 172.

to Alec and Brad. We all miss you dude.

Why is this a big deal (to people outside this forum)...the Raptor is a duck; he's not maneuvering at all. For what reason I don't know, but this clearly is not a situation where the Raptor was doing what he could to survive and failed.

No shit. Talking about flightsuits is in no way linked to anyone's moral values, hence integrity has nothing to do w/ this topic. First off, we were talking about UPT, not IFS. Secondly, I don't know where you get your "facts," but take it from a guy who has actually been through UPT...most classes don't wash out anyone. And if there actually is a washout, there's almost never 2. So your numbers are completely wrong. Dude, really? Did you know that SIE stands for Self-Induced Elimination? No shit they SIE'd on their on free will. This brings me to another point...SIE and washout ARE NOT the same thing. You either leave yourself b/c you don't like flying or whatever (SIE) or you suck bad enough to just not be able to fly up to AF standards (washout). Dude, you're not even an officer and you don't have any idea what you're talking about. Trying to call me out on leadership is just retarded. You need to learn a quick lesson about not opening your man pleaser unless you have a clue as to what you're talking about...and that my friend, will not happen for several years, maybe more since you seem to be incapable of learning a lesson.
-
Find a dictionary dude; integrity has nothing to do with this conversation. Actually, chances are you'll be sitting in a hole in the middle of a frozen Wyoming tundra while these "rated" cadets are flying something somewhere. UPT washout rate is pretty low. Lesson #1: Never pass the opportunity to STFU.

Stoleit...find someone. I've heard too many bad stories from friends who kept guns in the armory. Don't even bother removing the bolt...they have those and can easily put one in your gun (sts). Also, I don't know for sure, but I thought I heard something about not being able to have a trigger lock on your gun. It doesn't make sense, but then again it's the AF. I'm sure there is someone you can find by the time you have the gun built who either lives in base housing or off base.

Actually I have a CO CCW (and I did check to make sure there was reciprocity in AZ). I was just wondering if there was some law requiring gun registration, since Colorado doesn't require it, but I know some states do. Thanks for the help guys.
-
Just moved to AZ...do I have to register my already-owned guns with the local cops, state, etc. or does it not matter since I haven't purchased these in state and I'm not an AZ resident? I'm particularly interested in my Glock since I have a CCW and plan to use it.

Try ebay...here's a good, cheap example: Ebay Flightsuit

If you just got C models, you'll probably be at Klamath. Supposedly the last B-course class has started at Tyndall (per a friend's info). Maybe there might be one or two more, but no way you'll be in one of them (if you just dropped them that is). Who knows about wait time, but I bet it'll still be several months.

Don't keep running on it. IT band injuries can become pretty serious if you keep exercising on it. The more you run on it, the longer you'll be unable to exercise when you get to the point of being unable to because of the pain. See the doc, go on profile...don't just push this one aside. Plus, it's only ASBC, who cares. They can send you home and then you can come back later (i.e. hopefully you just start UPT and don't ever have to go back). It's not the end of the world, but you could end up seriously injuring yourself if you play I've got a secret.

Fixed wing qual is shorter because you're already a winged pilot (albeit different service/rotary). So, you already have all the "general pilot skills," you just need to learn how to fly the fixed-wing way and the Air Force way. At VN, the FWQ guys were in their own flight/class and weren't actually a part of a "normal" UPT class. At least that's how I remember it being about 1.5 yrs ago. Regular UPT last 12 months, but according to XL, FWQ is about 9 months...so I guess that's the length you can expect (sts).
-
I know that at least as of 1.5 yrs ago there were helo dudes going through a fixed wing qual program at VN. I guess it was a very shortened version of UPT, but w/ a lot of the bullshit cut out.
-
Just curious, why use Jepp instead of the normal FLIP?
-
Why the hell are these guys allowed to be such outright cock bags? Fucking ridiculous.
-
Then he'll be able to read it in 6-9 yrs when outlook actually displays the digitally signed email.

We're gonna need a shitload of dimes! to Sgt Rhyner. I hope I have the chance to work with guys like him in the future.

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
brabus replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the help. Also, do you know where in the JTFRs it says what is tax deductible? I searched all over them and couldn't find anything. I'm just wondering what receipts I should keep and turn in to get the tax deduction. Thanks. -
Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)

I went to the AF Move website and further to the PPM Calculator. After estimating the weight, I notice this on the page: ]The tax amount can be reduced by providing valid receipts for allowable deductions such as the cost of a rental vehicle, packing materials, moving aids, tolls, and gasoline. For example, I "make" $2500 on the DITY, but $700 is taken out for tax. However, the above bold line clearly states I can reduce that tax w/ the cost of rental vehicle, etc. So, if I spend $800 on a Uhaul, can't I put that down as a deduction and thus pay no tax and get the full $2500? I'm assuming I would "lose" that extra $100 (i.e. the AF isn't going to pay me $800 for the rental per se, but they should get rid of the $700 tax since the rental cost me $700 or more). I've always heard you aren't reimbursed for a Uhaul, etc. b/c that's what DLA is for blah blah. But the line above clearly says I can show a receipt and thus not have the tax taken out. Am I missing something? -
For the most part, as long as you keep a good attitude towards UPT, instruction, etc, prior flying time can only help you. With the exception of one guy, all of us who got fighters in my class had prior flight time ranging from 80 hrs to 900 hrs. I think it helps and strongly suggest anyone get time. Not only will it help you, but it will be fun. Obviously experiences differ between classes, but bottom line is it's never a bad idea to get flight time.
